African tech startup funding passes $700m in record-breaking 2020

Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa and Egypt remain emphatically Africa’s “big four” from a funding perspective, accounting for 77 per cent of funded startups and 89.2 per cent of total investment. [b]Nigeria (85)[/b

https://disrupt-africa.com/2021/01/21/african-tech-startup-funding-passes-700m-in-record-breaking-2020/

Oya, see consolation.

Ghana is even miles away from the 4 major players in Africa, Ghana is still in the small boys league.

The above report was from 2020 and we already received more TECH funding in one month of this year alone than the whole of 2020.

Yes, go and console them in Ghana with their small Twitter rental office with 11 ghost workers.

Yes, God Bless Nigeria.

Most African YC-backed startups in today’s batch are focused on fintech

This is the accelerator’s third online demo day, its second all-virtual class and remote pitch session following its decision to go fully remote from the previous batch (Summer 2020).

A total of 319 companies pitched today from 41 countries drawing attention from more than 2,400 investors. However, only ten African startups pitched and similar to other batches; most of them are fintechs.

Other startups offer e-commerce fulfillment, edtech and B2B food marketplace services. Five startups represent Nigeria; three are from Egypt, and one each from the Ivory Coast and Kenya. Here’s what they are building.

Dayra (Egypt)

Djamo (Ivory Coast)

Kidato (Kenya)

Flux (Nigeria)

NowPay (Egypt)

Mono (Nigeria)

Prospa (Nigeria)

Flextock (Egypt)

Sendbox (Nigeria)

Vendease (Nigeria)

https://techcrunch.com/2021/03/23/most-african-yc-backed-startups-in-todays-batch-are-focused-on-fintech/

Out of the YC-backed startups in 2021, Nigerian startups collected 5, that is 50%, that is the majority of the slots, small Ghana and their little twitter rental office no even show face.

This is Niaja POWER.

This is the GIANT of Africa dominating and monopolizing the TECH space in Africa.

Fintech leaders in Africa

In early 2020, figures showed that VC funding for African fintech startups had risen by 51% with funding being generated for virtual banking projects, consumer credit checks and finance apps. Later in the year, reports announced more growth, as new fintechs raised almost $350 million during the first quarter of 2020.

South Africa led the way with $112m in investments, followed by Nigeria, which raised $74m, Kenya at $62m and Egypt at $51m.

Meanwhile, Branch, a Nigerian mobile lending app, raised $260m in funding and has facilitated $350m in loans to date. A recent report by McKinsey also highlighted that fintech investments in Nigeria have grown by 197% over the past three years, with the majority of investment coming from outside the country.

https://www.fintechmagazine.com/financial-services-finserv/africa-next-big-hub-fintech

Per FINTECH leaders in AFRICA in 2020, Nigeria was 2nd behind SA with $112 in investments, but within a month, in March, we received over $200 million in FINTECH investment, more almost double what SA raised in one year and the year is not even halfway yet.

One single TECH company in Nigeria alone in one month this year raised $170 million, one single company, flutterwave.

Who is the TECH bigotry in Africa?

Nigeria, the GIANT of Africa.

And where is Ghana in the picture in Africa? Nowhere to be found...

God Bless Nigeria.

Nigerian Startups Secure More Funding In A Single Month Than Whole Of 2020

In a month tech investors decided to open their investment wallets in an unusual manner, five Nigerian startups have found themselves raising $202 million. It is the most investment in a single month since 2019 and beats the whole money raised in 2020.

Flutterwave opened the month of March with a $170 million Series C funding that pushed its valuation to over $1 million; Havenhill Nigeria Limited, a clean energy company raised $4.5 million on the same day as Flutterwave; Kuda Bank followed with $25 million; Termii and Kwik came a day later announcing raising $1.4 million and $1.7 million respectively.

This is the most funding closed in a month since the $200 million investment by Visa in Interswitch. Although Paystack pulled in $200 in the deal with Stripe in October 2020, it is an outright acquisition and so does not count as funding.

The $202 million funding is even more impressive as it eclipses the record of the entire investment in 2020 when about 82 Nigerian startups could only haul in $170 million.

Yes, we thank Buhari for making Nigeria the TECH KING in Africa

We thank Buhari for making our TECH companies collect the largest TECH investment in one month this year than we collected in the whole of last and the year is not even halfway over.

We thank God and Buhari.

This year is the best year for the Nigerian TECH industry, we are beating the BIG 4 in Africa and we've raised more investments in one month than they raised in the whole of last year so why even worry about irrelevant Ghana that is not even part of the small league in Africa?
