How come the present Oba admitted that Oranmiyan was the first Oba but for a short period before handing over to Eweka his son?

So who should we believe?

I never disputed Oromiyan as the first Oba. Because that was a part of our history we really didn't take note of even though it has been there.

Note every oba of Benin is crowned at a palace called Usama. Usama palace is different from the palace at Ogbe which you call Oba Palace.

According to tradition, the Edion crowned Oromiyan at the Usama Palace but Oromiyan never ruled as the stool of authority was with ogiamen. So Oromiyan got angry and he left Benin as he could not rule.
So the Oba is right if you count by coronation, Oromiyan was actually crowned and it's a fact.

This same Oromiyan is not considered the first Alafin of Oyo by some Yoruba scholars because he left the kingdom he founded and went back to ife.

So if you look at all I have said, I never disputed the coronation of Oromiyan. I never talked about it

Very ignorant people fill up this thread, in any society the ruling class are totally different from their subjects.
Because your royalties have affinities with another ethnic stock doesn't mean you lots are same stock.
Prince Philip that just died isn't of the same stock of the English people, he is Greek in origin but of royalty.
The kings and Queens of Europe are almost of the same bloodline than the people they rule over.
If the royal households of Itsekiri have established bonds with the Benin's from time immemorial or are Benin in origin that doesn't mean the entire Itsekiris are of Benin stock
The ruling house of Onitsha may trace ancestry to Benin or Igala, it doesn't mean they never met people in Onitsha at their arrival in Onitsha
Fact is, we should stop tracing our origin from the origin of the ruling families.

Succinct, however the modern youth has become too political to use rationale as a moral compass

Fictional characters: oduduwa, oranmiyan, ogiso...

Reality: Benin was an empire whose capital was known as Benin city. And Ife was a small village with a shrine in it, the Oni of IFA was the chief priest of the alafin.

Even Bini is a Yoruba name. Same with Ọmọ no Ọba. Informed people know that Binis and Edos though used synonymously means different things.
Edos are pure race of the Igodomigodo or Ogiso people.
Binis are the Edos with Yoruba bloods, that is descendants of Oranmiyan a pure Yoruba Prince then and later an Ooni of Ife

Why is it that only Binis can become Ọba (another Yoruba word) of Benin if Yorubas are not the lord of the land?
what is this one saying?

I read a piece recently which is floating online and I tend to agree with it

Yorubas are now claiming Itsekiris is part of the Yoruba nation just because they want Itsekiris oil in case Nigeria splits come 2023 grin

My question for yorubas claiming Itsekiri is

"WHERE WERE THE YORUBAS WHEN IJAWS AND URHOBOS WERE KILLING ITSEKIRIS BETWEEN 1993 to 1997?"

OPC never condemned the killings - Afenifere was quiet, the Ooni turned Itsekiri historian today was quiet then - na now day break ? abegi grin

I actually see this crisis involving the coronation of the Olu of Warri as a family affair that should not be allowed to degenerate further. But, you're clearly wrong by saying that the Yoruba weren't involved in the Ijaw vs Itsekiri War. In fact, it got to a point that the Ijaw militants issued a threat to attack Yorubas in Warri for aiding the Itsekiri...I remember that the OPC and Afenifere countered the declaration by saying that Itsekiris and Yorubas were brothers and nobody could send Yorubas away from Warri.

So, your claim is wrong.

The Ascension to the throne of Olu is governed by laws, Tsola's Ascension goes against those laws. It is that simple. A clear case for the courts or even the state government.
Only the Olu can suspend the Ologbotsere, so people "suspending" him without any authority to do such are fools.
The continued agression from the Oni of IFA who falsely claims to be a peace maker will soon be answered. Itsikeri, Ife is trying to appropriate your throne.

Itshekiri is a Yoruba subgroup. Whether you have Benin, Igala, Ebira, chinese, Korean or even Masai mother doesn't matter, Nigeria practise patriachy, so you belong to your father's identity by default.

Ishekiris are Yoruba and they have never denied that.

Itsekiri people have never denied their relationship with the Yoruba...

Bini, Yoruba, and Itsekiri are closely related...Including Igala...

But colonial experience and politics have created schisms between them as well.

My brother nobody said Ogiame is a Yoruba name, what he was trying to say is that the edict is morally and logically wrong.. Imagine the son of a King cannot be an heir to the throne because his mother the queen is a Yoruba woman.
Its just like saying after the death of my father his wealth will be inherited by my uncles, aunties and cousins because my mother is from another tribe.

Which may be true but then the royal households may claim otherwise and they have their followers too.
The basics here is what is the established form of kingship and are they willing to change the old order

* There are places in Nigeria where affinity is to the mother side, Ogoni is one*

Actually this is not true.
There is no precolonial document which links Itsikeri to "Yoruba" and there is no precolonial document which links Benin to Ife.
Actually, these perceptions you have are due to colonisation since they didn't exist before colonisation.
Itsikeri has always been seen as a part of Benin empire and that is why the Olu of Warri took the Portuguese to his father, the Oba of Benin.
