The primary mistake you made is to start a barber shop without you it self being a barber. I would advise you to go learn how barb and pick up the clipper and start cutting hairs. Next is to look for apprentice that can register for training. It cost 30-50 thousand naira for registration depending on the area. Overtime you will slowly handover the barbing to your apprentice. Second mistake you made is to actually start big... Starting big most time is overwhelming and you would not have the experience and your own technique of handling people, money and challenges. That being said, I wish you the best. |

tonididdy:it all boils down to investing in a business u can't handle urself bf looking for a helping hand. cus if u could barb u would ve bn taking care of those customers u made with d free haircut u offered on vals day. n then it il increase from there, well checkout other ideas like d unisex salon thing, u can get a hair stylist to see if they il share d rent n other expenses with u. But u ve to be prepared for d challenges dat il come with dat too. hard to deal with people these days. |

I understand your situation. Starting a business in Nigeria without testing the waters on a small scale is suicidal. Investing a million Naira in a new business without prior experience is a no no. What I will advice is, go to your trusted Barnet where you normally get your hair cut as a customer, I'm sure you should have built a relationship with your Barnet over time. Open up to him, seek his advice and recommendations going forward on how to run this business, you never know, he might forward a trusted barber to handle and co-manage the shop with you. Wish you all the best. |

tonididdy:I am a professional barber, I made the mistake of employing someone in m barber shop, he almost wreck me down, when I am there myself I make up to 8k per day, but when I leave him there he deliver 4000 per week just imagine. So this is what you will do. Place them on salary let them know how much they will be making in other for u to be able to afford the payment, barbing is a lucrative business, expecially weekends, you can make up to 15k on Friday ,20k on Saturday and on Monday up to 25k sometimes on Sunday morning. Just get a nice location. Anyway my online training will be coming up soon, this is not YouTube training its an intensive training for those who are interested in barbing. Fee 7k for three months training . Interested should book a space now or call 08034553036. |

tonididdy:CAPITAL YES Its either you learn how to barb or you look for a professional barber who is willing to buy the shop on high purchase Then two of you will write an agreement on how much he will be paying you monthly ![]() If not you will keep looking at that barbershop like ewu until you lost every penny you put there

tonididdy:Bro in there in where the problem is, first Benin is a good location for a barber shop however paying your barber is where he problem is, for a start up like yours, your barber pays you not otherwise. Kindly review your payment plan, get a new barber to manage the shop as his he fuels the Gen, pays the utility bills, service the clippers etc and pays you a weekly rent/lease token of 5-10k weekly this depends on how much you charge per haircut and can always be reviewed as patronage grows. But at every point make sure he never compromises on standard and quality that will be your game changer Yes 5-10k could look like a little ROI based on your investment but the idea is consistency and long term benefits wherein even when the barber leaves you already have a loyal dedicated fan base who now come there because of yourself the quality and set standard barbers will now be shopping to have a spot there too. However to utilize your investment and make more returns you have to consider the other ideas suggested here like making it a Unisex shop, Pos, etc this will generate more money and keep people around your business at all time. In addition women saloon could make you shop look alittle untidy and yes some guys might not really fancy the idea of a unisex Salon however some would so you can simply just start by selling female hair and attachment and later find a nice way to partition your shop as 2 distinct shop yet one salon. Don't give up just try out these suggestions and others you will be glad you invested. Finally get a towel warmer I did not notice one in the pictures posted. Nice barber shop you got there. |

Never start babing sallon biz if you dont know how to barb, if you wont be the one barbing. Close down this barbing business ASAP, before one of those barbers take over your shop through jazz and crooked means. E go hard to see who go barb for you, anybody you bring will kill your shop and open his own. Learn from your big mistake and move on. Find a bizness you can handle, find something you have experience and skills in. Close down the barbers shp, liquidate and move on. |

emmabest2000:Making agreement with a Nigerian is no go area. I have adviced him to close down the biz. It has never worked well. When you have money dont invest in barbing unless you are a barber. Its also very rare to see talented workers that will work for you in such sectors, becos it very easy to start up. To start a B saloon all you need is a clipper with oda small tins. Guys can easily hustle this tins. My advice to bro na to lean him, lesson and move on. |

afonjaheadhunts:Thanks so much for your input and everyone else's too. I do have a barber now on a contract, to be honest patronage isn't my biggest problem but consistency and availability of the barbers "used" to be my biggest phobia. All your points are noted and everyone else's, I have really gained more ideas on new inputs and adjustments we could make. I have a towel warmer and wireless clippers. The shop is running again and I'm hopeful. Thanks naira Landers and of course I will be contacting every contacts on here who have asked me to contact them. I need all the help we can get.
