Content Marketing
Video creation


While learning these things; open a LinkedIn page or Medium. Post meaningful content there.

Volunteer for jobs just to show experience but MOST importantly, create a portfolio of Good Works!

Try again after you have learnt all these things and you will see the difference. Actively make use of LinkedIn.

Also try Upwork, Freelancer etc.

First, it's good you have come to the reality that school isn't enough. Just like you, I was the best student in my department, but life happened to me in my final year, and I began making plans for the street.

The world out there is competitive. You can have an edge by learning a skill, preferably a digital skill (writing, coding, graphics design, etc). Schooling alone is not good enough, have value. Pick a skill and give it the same devotion and attention as you did with your studies.

Listen don't quit your job. Retain it and sharpen your skill. Then when you are good you can try freelancing, and break free from your job. There are many platforms out there like Upwork, Fiverr where you can leverage on and get started.


If you can follow through with this advice, you will be on the journey to gaining your financial freedom.

Hello, sir. You could have also told him what skill you learnt in particular and how you went through it. Learning to code comes with a lot of challenges, especially for self-taught developers. I must tell you that if you want to be a developer and you haven't started from school, you'll likely fail woefully because you'll be isolated and begin to struggle with time constraints owing to other commitments.

There are a ton of developers out there with similar range of knowledge. You'll be surprised to also find out that after years of committing to learn, you'll likely be taking a 30k to 50k from start ups who are bent on using you and have no provision for your growth. Telling people to learn to code has saturated the that market especially with mediocre devs. Being good for the industry also takes a few years.

I studied Architecture in the University. I went for my Masters immediately after NYSC....
I was combining my practice with a teaching job where I take home 25k.

I know a friend that saw himself through school doing menial jobs, graduated with a first class couldn't find a good job but he kept applying for scholarship abroad.

He's studying here now in Australia and the school paid for everything even pocket money.

There are lots of scholarship opportunities abroad look into it.

I think you should major on your course of study, probably master or professional certification or better still save up and learn a skill...

I recently created a thread where I asked on professional certification to have in job search.

I'll advise you to go learn a skill now in addition to that degree you're about to obtain especially this period you still have time and brain willing to learn. e.g. graphic design, HSE, welding, scaffolding, CCTV installation, inverter installation etc.

In the current employment market, there's no guarantee that what you studied in school is what will put food on your table
