Most people crave for social wealth it earns them respect, positions and approval from the society, religious organizations, school mates, family, colleagues.

People go broke trying to get the social wealth or status.

Smart people have made a huge fortune because of people's quest for social wealth, why do you think the uninformed keep on sowing seeds in the religious organizations or leaving beyond their means? They need respect from the society, fellow parishioners.

Oga Emma,

I don't quite agree with this. We need to really understand what social wealth entails.

This is empty pride and chest beating. I normally reply people who use this phrase with

'Sir, please who are you? '

It always throws them off...

People have gone broke trying to achieve social wealth.

All you have listed will make you to have respect, admiration from people.

Why do people live above their means?

Many years ago a colleague came to me to get a loan, which was less than a week after we were paid our salary. I asked him why was he so broke, he said he made a pledge to his religious organization.

Who does that, you made a pledge now you can't afford to fuel your car or pay your transport fare to work.

I guess the guy needed to up his status in his religious organization, he needed position in the organization, he craved the respect and praises from his religious leaders.

If I may ask you out of the following types of wealth and you are asked to choose just 3, which ones will you choose.

1. Financial wealth ( money)

2. Time wealth (freedom)

3. Social wealth (status)

4. Physical wealth ( health)

No better way to put it, when one has finished solving the problem of hunger what remains

I still don't understand why the rich keeps working harder when they can as well pay themselves pension from their wealth

.

True... So also have people gone broke chasing all other forms of wealth.

I know a guy who spent a lot on ponzi scheme, trying to gain financial wealth.

I know a 65 year old lady who spent a lot of money on her health, trying to be 21 again

I also know a guy who spent all of his fortune on time travel, trying to go back to the exact day he lost someone special to him

All the above are true instances alongside the scenario you painted.

Why do people live above their means?

Pleasure, validation and above all, to chase wealth.

Your example about the guy who took a loan for that feat seems stupid to a lot of people but a lot of wealthy people (1,2&4) would do anything to gain 3(social wealth).

Oga Emma, are you aware there are riches in heaven?

Jesus told the rich man to leave all his riches and follow him.

There are a lot of wealthy men who would exchange their wealth (1,2&4) just to gain social wealth. It might be their penance, we can take a look at many philanthropic gestures.

The 4 types of wealth you listed are not bad, we need to strive to get all 4. They are a process. For every bad example you have of 1, I can give you a lot more about others

NB: I'm irreligious, agnostic. So, automatically heaven riches don't bother me.

Lemme give you an instance with Mark Zuckerberg, his social wealth is definitely above his financial wealth

Tai Solarin of blessed memory... His social wealth is clearly higher that his financial wealth.

Both of them above would chose 3 and 4 same as I did.

NB. Both of them are atheist

People are clearly misconstruing Social wealth to be showing off your wealth socially.

@macktaob I can easily define social wealth as
"you reputation"

Probably if we see it in this light, we would be better informed

The richer one becomes, the more one gets to know that it's not about the physical wealth but how many people your voice can control,

I know many a big man that pay imams to pray daily for them, they build edifying mosque for their praying imams and at times I kind of wonder whether God is deaf to them for giving this high sums for only prayer.....

And why can’t she express herself if she wants to? Audio boss will come here and spew all sorts of tribalistic and audio trash, una go look the other way and even be hailing him as una oga. But as soon as he’s called out for it, your likes will come and suddenly become defender of the universe. Fear God o.

I'm not hailing anyone.

I have spotted a lot of inconsistencies in Ahib's investment claims. But no one is a child here. And he hasn't asked anyone for money as well.

He also makes silly religious and tribalistic rants like a typical low life.

My point is - we wasted the whole of last week on unproductive insult hurling.

Calm seems to have returned here. Why drag us back to those silly back and forths again?

Okay, this works for me. Reputation is an important asset of course. But in this life of cruelty, I'm gon choose financial wealth over reputation, so long it's not that I'm gon have the opposite of reputation, I just would be me without having a tarnished image.

My dad chose reputation/pride/respect over money, he was a politician, a big one, he died a young man, 53, leaving 13 kids to sort for themselves at tender age, fight amongst themselves over naught, once love turned distrust. Never would I make his mistake but not suggesting ruining one's name over money though.

According to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, after you have good health and other basic needs met, you want wealth, then you want financial freedom, then you want social acceptance Aka status and then self actualization. All na step by step.

So says the lazy youth that depends on palliatives and pocket money to survive grin

Social wealth gave him fame, popularity, acceptance, respect and reputation. His social wealth might open doors for you na.

I believe people who crave for social wealth have a type of complex. My opinion though.

Your choice is valid. So is mine and also everyone's choice.

What I am against is the one cap fits all ideology and also the misconception of Social wealth.

The true definition of wealth is when you achieve the 4 of them. You can start with anyone, but strive to achieve the 4 of them.

Money is already a given if you have the above three. I might not be financially wealthy, but I have the top 3 that money can't buy.

I would be able to meet my needs. I might not be financially wealthy or rich but I would definitely be contented.
