My friend quiet there if u know nothing about banking n let d experienced one's teach what u know not. Most of these Customers are illiterate and as such tend to act otherwise when denied access to their cash..I am certain he had discrepancy on his account which must have led to a hold hence an affidavit is required to lift pnd/regularize.
For the preference u talking about is only valid when there's que or need to attend urgently to the below person's request.
but say ur Account is on pnd, if u like be dying or be in labour, the Nigerian bank I have worked with for years would never let u have access to that cash other than EXCEPTIONAL APPROVAL which must come directly from ABOVE.
Pls be guided.

Access to which money?

What is the correlation between taking his own money and bringing his NOK?

I know Nigerian banks could be crazy, but they tend to give preference to the aged, sick and/or pregnant women. Something doesn’t add up.

Nigerians need to learn this thing called boycotting... tomorrow people will still troop into that same back going about their business as if nothing serious happened...

No hope again in this country... cry

You are 1000% correct, we have no idea what the phrase customer is king means.

As big as Microsoft/Google/Apple/Amazon is they never ever joke with their customers, that why the saying " I want to speak with your manager" is very common in the west. When someone says that here we go just dey look am like wetin him dey talk.

If Nigerians know the power in boycotting, there would be a level of decency to an extent in this country.

Our banks be forming alpha and Omega.
D man's blood is on dat bank and its staff.

Don't blame the bank, blame the government who put up guidelines and policy without considering certain circumstance.
They're quick to dash out multi-million fines to these establishment for breaking their guidelines.
Look at the amount dish out to telecom provider for not follow their guidelines for sim swap.

They gave these banks guidelines and they have no choice about it. I hate banks but that just what it is.

This incident is so sad.

The guy in suit at the entrance is very lucky he wasn't lynched....If I were him, I would have quickly removed my suit and tie and pretend to be a customer.

Unfortunately, the bank staff that refused to pay the deceased might be following the bank's policy which can be usually rigid, leaving no room for discretion in exceptional circumstances.

The deceased's daughter should have however requested to see the bank manager to explain their plight, perhaps, he might have given some waivers after getting due approvals.

May God grant him eternal rest.

I prefer to do daily contribution in Yoruba they call them Alajo, if u see one that is reliable u will reason with me that is better to save with them than bank.... At the end of the month they will only remove 1percent of the total amount save...

Does ur alajo have insurance? Is it not the same bank the alajo will go and save the money? Ok let's say ur alajo takes the money to his house and doesn't use bank, one day when he gets robbed what would happen to ur money? I'm pretty sure he has no insurance.

Thanks for not being emotional. Surely there is more to this story. It is always of a great advantage when one reasons with his or her Brain.

The thing with Nigerians is most of the times we get too emotional. RIP to the dead, maybe the bank could have done more to save him. But most people won't even bother asking what really happened they just go ahead to blame the bank. I watched the while video and still nobody gave a full details of what actually happened. Why would someone need to bring NOK to have access to his money?

Nice to meet you, Experienced Banker and Elumelu of our time.

Thanks for confirming my point that there is more to the story. The bank didn’t just REFUSE to give him his money, there were issues, which could be beyond the bank’s control. Issues that I do not know, but I am sure there is more to the story. This is not to make excuses for the bank as I believe there are situations where rules can be relaxed.

If the man was sure that the money will come after the courts are opened he could have burrowed.

if you have can you give someone you dont know ?,at times people like you make good men hardened their mind never to help strangers, who knows if your story is fake or true in this world where scammers littered the street,i would have love to help you with 5k but am yet to prove your originality
My brother, a person will ask for help here, you will ask them to do a simple verification of who they are and they will start telling why you they cannot verify themselves, how they don't want someone with them there to know. If it's a man posing as a woman or vice versa, they will be setting you a condition of when they can verify who they are. Most likely the time they can get a co-operative opposite sex friend to pose as them.

We condemn the elite for being heartless and not caring about the masses. You want to be different and walk the talk as a little citizen and assist in your own little way but quite often it's pathetic low level scam. My concern is that it's some people genuinely in need that will lose out. One does get fed up seeing the suspicious attitude of some people claiming to be in need, so you just don't want to try anymore.

I know right? But why don't we need the same court affidavit while opening of a account. Just to make things easier, we don't need court affidavit in any bank in this modern age. Why did I say so? First off, we now have BVN, which is unique to everyone, in the BVN the client fingerprint, which is unique to him is there, his pictures and name. Let's say client name is wrong in the bank, then he comes with a valid ID card showing his pictures, what banks needs to do, is to check his fingerprint on the BVN and verify it same picture and with him there direct doing facial recognition. After seeing the account name with wrong info, then they can change it. Without us bank won't be functioning. Something's are stale in this country.

Rip to the man.

We don't know what caused his death, maybe due to exhaustion or what ever the underlying case may be. Autopsy from an expert with proven methods and assisting technology can be of help here.

As for the bank, we don't know their reasons. If they are too open and very welcoming, bad individuals will take advantage of that situation.

Lastly, what do you want the bank people to do after that incident. So that people will ransack and destroy the building; And maybe hurt them.

In correct countries, they would have called ems. Instead of her or people around to rush him to the hospital, they are throwing pity party. Who are they to confirm him dead.

The country is hard for all except for many old and new politicians and their inner circle.

It is hard for ekelebe, teachers, bankers, etc. We need a societal change for progress and a national etiquette.
