And Piggyvest saves your money where? In the Sky?

If banks decide to hold piggyvest's funds...nothing you can do

Let's try and push emotions aside before passing judgement on some cases. Is the account his personal account? Why does he need a next of kin to withdraw from his account? There are a lot of sketchy details here but it pretty obvious that the account does not belong to the man. Perhaps a late spouse or sibling. In that kind of situation, you need to follow due procedure. No bank in the world will ever grant to access to funds from someone else's account because you're sick or hungry or whatnot. If it's his personal bank account, once his BVN data and signature checks, he would have withdrawn his money without issuesm

Those shitty cashiers that are only doing there IT for bank and they will firming staffs and even the staffs that only looks good in uniform and nothing to show for it will be acting like they have achieved it all in life, now what?? Will they now allow the family of the man withdraw the money or not??

They will make quick withdrawal out of the dead man's account and back-date, knowing he is dead.
When the family finally gets a "Letter of Administration" to have access to his Money, they will discover that only a small amount remains there!

"The Dead Stay Dumb". undecided

That is the style of most bankers, l have seen it happen.

Your ASSUMPTIONS are also Wrong!
You wont be granted withdrawal Rights to an account, if the owner is deceased, just because you are the Next of Kin.
You will need a Letter of Administration from a High Court.

I think they know that he is about to die or very sick (from observation) and just want to delay the withdrawal of the Money deliberately (for whatever reasons, not excluding protecting his interest, since people in such "state of mind" are not expected to make big decisions.
For example, changing your WILL when you are sick or at the point of death is not acceptable.

Maybe that is why they just wanted his Next of Kin present, at least that is somebody he trusted, when he was hale and hearty. They may not trust those who brought him to make the Withdrawal, Nigeria is a terrible environment, when it comes to money

Access to which money?

What is the correlation between taking his own money and bringing his NOK?

I know Nigerian banks could be crazy, but they tend to give preference to the aged, sick and/or pregnant women. Something doesn’t add up.
just pray you don't have any dealings that requires great urgency or between life and death.na there u go know the other side of these banks

Those bank's security guards are evil and corrupt, in the name of maintaining social distancing inside the banking hall, they have turned entering the bank into a business of extorting people of money, it is whoever pay that will be allowed in first. That is why everybody should activate mobile banking on their phone, whatever urgent thing you want to do, just use transfer instead of cash payment.

You do not need to go to any banking hall to do any txn. Life has become so easy. Unless you are a fraudater in which the bank blocked your account. Do legit biz and you wont have probs.

Keeping money in the bank is primitive.Save your money in Crypto currency and watch it grow after sometime.Sell the coins when you feel you're comfortable with the accrued profit, withdraw to your bank account, then go to pos and withdraw your money. Dogecoin made me a millionaire within two months of investing 180k.It might sound unrealistic but I'm a testimony.

The man's account might have been dormant and he needed to reactivate it. Or the man is unconscious and the bank needed affidavit to act on the instruction of a court to release money for the NOK.

I am a banker and I've seen cases where, the sick customer after recovering from the illness will come to the bank and make cases about fraudulent activities on his account.

NIGERIANS MAKES THINGS DIFFICULT FOR THEM, AND END UP BLAMING THE SYSTEM.

For a bank to lock up a customer outside the banking hall, just know that something is really not right

In simple terms, he went to bank to beg for money.
But the bank rejected his begging and didnt give him any money.

If he had money in his bank account, easy to withdraw from it.

Nice to meet you, Experienced Banker and Elumelu of our time.

Thanks for confirming my point that there is more to the story. The bank didn’t just REFUSE to give him his money, there were issues, which could be beyond the bank’s control. Issues that I do not know, but I am sure there is more to the story. This is not to make excuses for the bank as I believe there are situations where rules can be relaxed.

Oga, if you present your complete documents at the time of opening your account, no one would deny you access to your money.

You guys should stop pushing blame where there is need for none.

Yeah, but this particular story doesn't add up. In most cases, affidavits are needed when the account owner has passed on. But in this case, the owner is still alive, why did they need a next of kin and affidavit to release his money?? sad sad has he not been making withdrawals from the account prior to now?? I hope the bank makes a statement on this cos I'm interested in knowing what actually transpired.
