PAPAFEELERS:
Good morning my Ogas,

I just had a arguement with my engineer. he was inisting i buy Bua cement rather than Dangote for tiling BUT i told him what is important to me is the avaialability and cost of the cement and not the brand. i also told him i have used dangote cement for tiling purposes in the past.

The engineer was aruguement was that Tilers prefer Bua and i told him how can you an engineer be swallowing hook, line and sinker what people say without a valid reason why?

Please am i wrong by saying i will be using dangote cement for my tiling work? please correct me if am i wrong
Fire him if he has no scientific proof that bua cement is better than dangote for the application he intended to use if for as an engineer.

I think the proper name should be Aluminum claddings on fascia/soffits. Some use a form of light pan and weld the joinings of the cladding underneath.

The people are really not at fault but our designers/architects who are stucked in their old ways.

That’s exactly what the guys in the upscale development arena are doing different.

Even if I’m building a house in a ghetto, it’s still going to have a modern feel.

_______

Did we miss the extreme makeover done by Omotola Jolade in one old school building like that? I’ll look for images and share the before and after pics.

Make you no vex with me, I’m just comfortable doing the normal stuffs.
Well, you are right partially.
But budget too is a great determinant of an excellent design.
Most clients work on low budget, some just wanna escape the rigour of being tenants.
The country is just not encouraging nor helping any sector.
None the less, change is essential.

I woke up this morning to a request by a client to inspire him the best of naija build in contemporary and vernacular architecture.

More inspiration and best of naija architecture on kobocity.com

Change is inevitable. It’ll be unkind to those unprepared.

I agree completely that clients determine our design principles BUT we need to steward them towards modernity and functionality.

House shouldn’t just be a four wall.

Our designs should have empathy for our users if we want to retain and attract new clients. So Im not always afraid to infuse new patterns when legacy patterns aren’t working well regardless of who the client is (kobokobo or trilliontrillion).

Veterans in the house, goodmorning sir,

With the price of cement, I was suppose to commenced my project next, all materials on ground except cement...

Whats your best advice, shiuld I proceed and get cement at this price?
Should I pend the project?

Are we expecting any decrease in prices in few weeks?

Pls advice...

Im currently having a vendor who sells for 3500,

Would it be wise to get like 150bags and store it for use?

Please advice

Buy and think of other areas to save cost.

Nigeria is on autopilot. Don’t expect any price fall on any of the building materials happening.

I don’t blame those who hike the prices. I blame the incompetent people at the helm of power.

Wishing you goodluck in your project.

________

If you project is a bungalow, 150 bags of cement will take you far.

If it’s a duplex, buy up to 250 bags that can take you up to the first floor slab level.

Once again, think of ways to cut down your cost without compromising quality.

Oga mi it’s your house. Use any window that gives you pride as you drive up after surviving the day in today’s Nigeria. Making it home is a blessing.

You have a choice, casement or sliding, price wise difference in cost is negligible.

Consider how often you’ll be opening and closing windows. Sliding is super easy when quality materials are used. With casement you have to stick your hand out into unknown.

Good luck on finishing project. Looks fantastic.

It's a bungalow... A twin flat, 3bedroom & 2bedrrom...

Again, I plan to do parapet on it... Whats the minimum amount of columns I can have?

You’ll need up to 200 bags for a twin flat.

Introduce columns at every corner of the house and the cavity wall. That should be about 12 columns.

You can share your building plan though for assessment and recommendation.

Considering the rising cost of building materials, I’d suggest you do precast parapet to save on cost and achiever something good on low budget.

Since you’re building in Abeokuta, get good Sandcrete block (100% stonedust) and forget about having columns.

Ensure your external walls are 9inches block in case you want to go cheap on blocks.

Those who waited in January when cement was 2900 will struggle to buy now that the price is pegged at 3500 - 4,000

Delay is dangerous.

OH my God.. I already purchased 30tonne granite on site... I wasnt informed of the option of stone dust block, because i would have loved to bypass the wahala that comes with erecting columns.. This is all just for the parapet.....

What can be done now?

Pls what's a cavity wall?

You can still use the granite for the foundation work. You’ll also need it for other concrete works in the house

- lintels and beams
- septic tank and inspection chambers
- fence work
- gate columns
- compound flooring

Cavity wall is the wall that divide your flats.
