Following his suspension, Mr Mbaka returned to his ministry that lies north of the outskirts of Enugu city centre, where he subsequently incited his members against the bishop, sources said.

Mr Mbaka’s followers claimed without evidence that he was kidnapped by Mr Onaga and handed over to the State Security Service. They subsequently marched on the premises of the bishop on Wednesday morning, looting and destroying assets therein.

The mob also descended on the Holy Ghost Cathedral, again looting and destroying items in the building. The members also went to town to allege that the SSS had arrested Mr Mbaka — generating widespread media reports despite lacking requisite corroboration. The Gazette did not publish the claim.

It's an insult to compare my Catholic Church with Islam. The Catholic Church is a disciplined, apolitical and violence-free organization with strong ethical foundation. The church has survived many challenges over the years because it compels all its priests to stay disciplined.

In contrast, Islam is a global religion that preaches love but allows its members to physically assault the next person just to further their cause. Little wonder the religion keeps breeding home-grown terrorists around the world.

While islam seamlessly mixes with politics, the Catholic Church has no room for politics. In fact, the church encourages priests to pray for the leaders. What the bishop did has nothing to do with tribe; he's following the dictates of the faith. So, keep those in mind.

I wished Bishop Okogie was his superior. Priests in the East gets away with a lot of misconducts. You can't try any nonsense under Okogie or Adewale Martins. 5 years suspension awaits you and if you do more gragra na to tell Pope to derobe you immediately. No time for rubbish.

Imagine a priest in a Roman Catholic church behaving like a war lord with militia followers. Enugu Bishop has been a weaklin where Mbaka is and it has come to hunt him back.

will that stop him from adoration ministry, which is wholly his? Most of the things he does is from Adoration ministry not from his parish. So suspending him will not stop him, except he choses to obey Bishop. Adoration ministry is far bigger than his Catholic parish. Both Catholic and non Catholic comes there.

I am not a catholic but I love Mbaka. I don't see any justification for his suspension. Should everybody keep quiet until Buhari and his cohorts kill everybody. Let them also recommend discipline to the American priest that criticized Joe Bidden and vowed not to serve him communion. The Catholic church risk losing Mbaka. I see no offence he has committed. Why do priests preach against sin? Are the sins of the people in Government now approved in Heaven? This is hypocrisy at its peak.
Mbaka's case is different, a body as big as the Catholic cannot have a Rev father who publicly supports a seccessionist like Nnamdi Kanu, Catholic as a church does not support violence and are true Christians, they won't support anyone who goes against constituted authority and won't respect the government of a country.
Even Jesus Christ respected the government, so who is Mbaka? Mbaka would have been fine if he had just supported Nigerian breakup, but not supporting a group that holds a country down.

DSS obviously negotiated with the Bishop to call Fr Mbaka for meeting in which he was cautioned

U know immediately he drummed support for Nnamdi Kanu, FG became uncomfortable.

The action of Fr Mbaka fanatic adoration members is very embarrassing. Fr Mbaka remains under the Bishop and can be called to order if need be. He was given one month punitive sanction for dabbling into politics. Recall, he was warned by same Bishop when he attacked GEJ. He has been going against the instructions of the church hierarchy. The next sanction he might get is excommunication, he is not bigger than Catholic Church.

If you are observant, since he dabbled into politics, he has not released any song unlike before when his songs were hit in the East, his preaching has been watered with political talks.

This is not the Fr Mbaka we know before. He needs the one month sanction for retreat and self examination.

Those fanatics that attacked Bishop court should ask for forgiveness openly.

I never supported Fr Mbaka before, I won't support him now that he has fell apart with his APC friends

Fr. Mbaka is one of the most influential priests in Nigeria today, if not the most influential. In fact, he's even more popular and richer than most bishops.

Besides, Fr. Mbaka's ability to pray and perform miracles have kept many faithfuls in the Catholic Church because such gifts are almost non-existent in the church. Everyone needs miracles.

The issue of Fr. Mbaka and polticians is something that every bishop should handle carefully so they don't attract hate and violence upon themselves. Fr. Mbaka has cult-like following across Nigeria and beyond. He's even known in Rome.

IMO, Fr. Mbaka is a rational person who has often made it abundantly clear that he will always obey the leadership of the church. What the bishop ought to have been doing was inviting him once in a while and advising him to tone down his political sermons/messages.

You cannot keep quiet when Mbaka praises Buhari and calls for his head when he criticizes the same man. It makes sane minds question the political position of the church. I just hope the church doesn't finally shoot itself in the foot with this move (if true anyways).

I am surprised to know he is under the Catholic church. He courts trouble too much for someone (a priest) that is under a body as organized as the Catholic church.

I always thought he is an independent miracle-working-priest. Which is even unusual in the Catholic church, more reason I felt he is independent.

I wonder why they allowed him get this brazen. His own didn’t start today na. Maybe politics is at play here.
