El-Rufai: We Were Ready To Lose Students In Planned Bandits’ Bombardment by sarrki(m): 3:50am On May 07, 2021
Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, on Thursday said when 29 students of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation, Afaka, Kaduna State, were abducted, the plan was to attack and kill the bandits even if it meant some students would die in the process.

El-Rufai added that Kaduna is currently at war and such would only be considered as collateral damage, a price he would be willing to pay instead of paying ransom.

The governor, however, said before this could be done, the bandits hurriedly changed location which led to the students spending over a month in captivity.

The governor said this on Thursday during a webinar organised by the Africa Leadership Group.

The event which was tagged: ‘Developing a Viable Nation 2’ was hosted by Pastor of Trinity House Church, Ituah Ighodalo.

Responding to a question on his refusal to negotiate with bandits, the governor said, “Two days after the abduction of the Afaka young people, I was assured by the air force and the army that they knew where the kidnappers were with the students and they had encircled (them).

“We were going to attack them. We would lose a few students but we would kill all the bandits and we would recover some of the students. That was our plan. That was the plan of the air force and the army… But they slipped through the cordon of the army. That is why they were not attacked.

“We know it is risky, we know in the process we may lose some of the abductees but it is a price we have to pay. This is war, there will always be collateral damage in war and we will rather do that than pay money because paying money has not solved the problem anywhere in the world.”

El-Rufai admitted that he had “lost weight” over the insecurity in Kaduna State which was giving him sleepless nights.

The governor, however, claimed that insecurity in Kaduna was not as bad as Niger, Katsina and Zamfara but the media only focused attention on his state because it fitted into their narrative of ethnic clashes.

El-Rufai said in Katsina and Niger states, entire villages were sacked by bandits but nothing of such happened in Kaduna.

On why he asked former President Goodluck Jonathan to negotiate with Boko Haram to rescue Chibok girls, the governor stated that he only gave that advice because that was the first time such abduction would take place.

He said Boko Haram is driven by an ideology and not by money in the case of today’s bandits.

The governor also spoke about his expectations for Nigeria in 2023.

El-Rufai said it was his wish that the next President of Nigeria would not be more than 65 years.

The governor said political leadership is mentally and physically draining and a younger person would handle the stress better than an older person.

El-Rufai also said the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), hardly achieved much because he is a nice guy that doesn’t like to sack.

He said he believed in sacking incompetent hands and that was why he achieved more.

Many investors have invested hugely into private university business with the hope that Nigeria will become educational hub to many African prospective students, the upsurge in kidnapping of students will definitely doom their plans and future investors may likely look for elsewhere. Insecurity kills economy

This government is yet to tell us the truth about the dramatic escalation of terrorist activities in the country.

Weapons were given to a certain people and pomises were made before election. Unfortunately, the promise couldn't be fulfilled after election (RUGA) and these people with weapons decide to use those weapons to make money for themselves by kidnapping innocent Nigerians.

Government finally realizes they can also make money from paying ransom and that's how kidnapping became the order of the day in Nigeria.

Government of the bandits, by the bandits and for the bandits.
If the FGN can collaborate with El-Rufai and give him the necessary support, I believe he has the ball to deal with bandits and terrorists.

NB: I am not a fan of Erufai but let give it to him-He is strong willed and proactive. He also have to work on his PR team.

And if you lost them all they'll be collateral damage to their parents? If the bandit's lives are worthless, I didn't presume those students deserve such preventable deaths.

Omo, Leadership is not easy especially when you are dealing with terrorists. Some leaders will prefer to negotiate because they don't want to lose innocent lives but if you decide to attack, be ready to pay a price. So it's kind of contradictory for you to agree with the no negotiations part and not agree with the part of losing some of the abductees.

I'm not sure if the problem is negotiating, the problem is that we don't have a solid security structure in place to prevent or repel the kidnappers in the future.

The only thing we can all agree on is that the government at all levels have failed us in terms of providing adequate security.

Imagine what this eediot is vomiting

Why not go ahead with the plan with the attendant collateral damage and see if you'd come out smelling of roses.

The only offense of the student was going to school and they have to pay the price with their lives, when it was the same government that failed them initially....

The question is if El Rufai's kid was part of the kidnapped student would he say his kid should be termed collateral damage

If only you had bothered to read it well sir. He just explained in simple terms that leadership is a lot of hardwork . That talk is cheap and typing few uncouth and unpatriotic words to disparage his effort on faceless forums and media is the easy and lazy part.
He is taking very tough decisions in the face of difficult circumstances. Just when Kaduna started climbing up in igr, the enemies of progress tried to turn back the wheel of progress.
He is a strong leader and I applaud his brilliance and clarity of mind. He is a dogged fighter and I pray he succeeds.

Kaduna, even in military governments, has always been a hotbed of the worst forms of violence and inter-ethnic cleansing but HE El Rufai and his predecessors have achieved so so much to tone down the violence and the result is the progress we witnessed in their igr. Kaduna Indigenes must defend their state against bandits and terrorists.

They are lucky to have a hardworking and passionate leader, I urge them to support him and Ignore those who hate him and therefore demarketing his great effort.

Well done HE El Rufai. May God bless you. May your labour of love and sacrifice in service of Kaduna & Nigeria bear great returns.
Don't relent and don't give up. Remain focused and forget the media, especially social media, doing the bidding of the highest bidder for their dwindling unpatriotic service. Nigeria will defeat all the enemies of Nigeria including sponsored insurrectionists like Sunday Igboho, anarchists like Sowore and terrorists like the Boko Haram and IPOB terrorists.

The good news is that ordinary Nigerians are claiming back their land physically and spiritually. I received the message below at 3a.m this morning. Now, you can imagine people praying against the enemies of Nigeria around such hour. It is pouring hot coal on the heads of the enemies of Nigeria online & offline.visit www.freestuffsng.com for latest freestuffs in Nigeria. God bless Kaduna .God bless Nigeria. Nigeria is winning!
thank you.
Most nairalanders are too lazy to face the reality on ground.
Elrufai has stated the obvious fact.
Rather than keep paying cash ransome while they keep expanding their base it's better we face the reality and admit to the fact of casualties.
May God guide el-rufai in his decision making.

So US is not proactive when almost every week, someone enters a large gathering of people and murder them with guns. You can't eliminate bad people and that's why he is giving you the bigger picture: unless you kill these guys, they will never stop. Even US does not negotiate with terrorists and that's why they give travel advisory to their citizens. In Katsina, they were negotiating with the terrorists and in no time, they took over Katsina! He is taking a cue from Katsina and chose to fight. If you have other suggestions to help the situation, share it instead of running their efforts down. Remember that some of our patriotic security personnel die in these operations too and they have families too. Your advice can help too.

You are obviously confused because you are saying two different things at the same time.

If you negotiate, you will save all the lives. The implication is that you will finance the terrorists' activities. They will get more weapons and become deadlier. In fact, you will send a message that your government encourages terrorism and banditry, thus making more people to jump on the bandwagon.

On the other hand, if you attack, there will be collateral damage. In short, you can even lose all the students. The situation is dicey, but el-Rufai raised an important point. If I were in his shoes, I would damn the consequences and attack. Even if my kid was involved because paying those idiots means encouraging more people to go into banditry for the money.

Crime must have a dire price and that's why countries tell you that they don't negotiate with terrorists. It takes a brave mind to be a good leader. I can never negotiate with rascals...never! Doing so has a long-term implication that will hurt the society for a long time. Most times, we do the things of today to avert the negative impact it would have tomorrow.

But then, since they paid the ransom to free the students, they should have tracked the bandits and finished them up. After all, el-Rufai claims the military already has details of their location.

Same thing Kim jong un would have done. If El-rufai's kids were among those kidnapped, he wouldn't even have these thoughts. Same reason I believe these politicians won't take insecurities serious until their loved ones start getting kidnapped, killed, assaulted, etc. Wahala for who neva get sense for this dangerous times o. Very big wahala. With this manner of El-rufai's approach, we'll lose millions of civilians while trying to kill the thousands of terrorists we have in this country, I swear to God Almighty I thought common sense will tell El-rufai this. We need better technology to deal with these terrorists. There are some wars that can be fought better with the use of technology. Drones and Geo location devices can be used at certain instances; you don't have to send soldiers for a face to face confrontation with terrorists that can lead to loss of lives. To even trace walkie talkies na big wahala for this government. Yes, I know it's a tad difficult to trace, but it can be done. This government is simply pampering the terrorists and na pikin wey u pamper too much dey piss anyhow for bed. At this point sef, these terrorists don shít ontop Naija bed. Corruption is too much. Maybe Buhari, Gumi, Pantami and shekau are butt buddies, that's why terrorists are having a field day. Anyway, Let me go and watch "Zero dark thirty".
