You can defer before acceptance, before payment and also after. It all depends on when the decision to defer is taken.

Deferment in UTAS is done once from the information on their site. You can also ask them directly to know if there's a consideration or exceptions based on the border condition.

I do not know when the border will open tho. I'm also waiting and looking forward to that.

Thank you...

When will the Australian embassy begin to grant applicants their student visas this year 2021? Or have they started inviting Nigerians for visa collection?
Re: General Australian Student Visa Enquiries Part 3 by alao1981: 8:02am On May 11, 2021
There is a possibility of elections in November. The PM will not like to take a risk on COVID entering the country so as not to impact his performance in the election. A lot of the premiers were able to ride on this to win their elections. They will be open to more risks around border after the elections

Shock Budget detail reveals Australia's international border will be shut until mid-2022 - another YEAR away - and it could get worse if there's another Covid-19 outbreak

There does not appear to be much changes on willingness to open border to students, especially with the escalation in India. Whilst it is possible that places like NSW may take some few students before end of year, 2022 more likely a timeline to plan towards.
thanks for your response

I was hoping that one day I would give my testimony on this thread. I got my 5-year visa grant yesterday for a PhD in Medicine at the University of New South Wales. Applied Feb 3, 2021 and it has been 3+ interesting months. I did it all by myself because of the experiences shared on this thread - I started from the very beginning and read every page. This is me saying thank you to everyone that shared their stories.

Now we wait for the borders to open.

Not to discourage you but from the look of things and the way the new budget is set up, I highly doubt the borders will open this year. However, I heard some schools are pushing to bring in students this year and with the crisis in India, one can only hope they look to Africa. My advice is, whilst keeping the faith alive pls be realistic. Aussie be like movie cos e shock me say dem fit lock border for one full year

The relationship is indeed far but I think with the right packaging and the God factor, nothing is impossible. Can't the sponsor transfer the funds to your mum? Maybe if the sponsor pays your fees using her account and write a very convincing letter of sponsorship saying why she wants to sponsor you (e.g your mum accommodated her or sponsored her in school when her family could not afford it)...it might work. Ask your agent for other possible options. You will have to show proof of relationship tho.

Most Nigerians do disability work because the hours are flexible and the pay is fair. I'm not sure about driving a tractor because you would still have to convert your nigerian driver's license to aussie and the standard class is class C which restricts you to a certain type of vehicle depending on the weight. So if you bring the normal licence here it will not be equivalent to the one required to drive a tractor. Other skills you can learn is hair braiding or servicing of cars I guess. Just worry about getting to aussie and having some money to 'hold body' for like 4 months.
P.S: beg your dad (or save up) to pay for at least half of the second semester.

Congrats indeed. This was the approach I took in getting my visa last year. I am curious though, did you get funding? Reason I ask is that UNSW is one of the most expensive schools over there and I had to abandon their offer when I did not get funding from them. BTW, I got a mail from my school deferring my resumption to July 2022 (I did not even ask them). So, there is some realisation that newly commencing student not likely form a big chunk of the small batches that may enter the country this year and early next year

Yeah I had a scholarship. Funny thing is I had the scholarship in Nov 2019 but I couldn’t take up the offer. The scholarship was given again in Jan 2021. That’s when I knew it was destiny

The total tuition is about $210,000 so I agree with the expensive bit.

How market? All of you who were hopefully waiting for Australia boarders to be open?.. make Una dey wait oo

Ikjosh04:

Australia is one hell(used here as a glossary intensifier) of a country but that does not mean we should look at the facts and loose hope.

UK, Ireland are seeing a spike in new cases and their boarder is still open to international students even Canada will be opening her boarder later this month.

I must admit the facts are more glaring cause a glance at the past(few months back) will show how Scott even declined Australia citizens and Pr that are offshore from coming back to their country to be with their family during the global lockdown but the boarder is presently open to them now in batches.

What's even worse is some state boarders are even closed to other states from entry within the same Australia and the stubborn Scott was even furious with the premier of Queensland recently and requesting for the boarder to be open to inter state entry.

Australia government is taking this covid-19 stuff very serious and most of her citizens are already fed up and Melbourne and Sydney are even asking for resignation of her top leader.

What I think: Waiting for a vaccine before the boarder gets open to international students is bullshit and the pressure is mounting from everywhere for Australia to open her boarders. This is the new normal and everybody needs to adapt.

Also, the false news flying all over the media and YouTube videos (with the exception of the credible ones) is not true cause Scott and Josh did not say during the budget proposal that the international boarder will be closed till July(it was just an assumption) all these media people are taking what he said out of context.

Conclusion: I see the boarder open to international students come February 2021.

DHA have been granting visas since the beginning of the year. One of my students got visa on Friday, some of my colleagues students too got visas last month. The major problem now is the opening of border to allow those with visas travel.

that is serious... my brother still hasn't gotten his student visa.... He applied for scholarship (Masters) which he got since April last year 2020 and paid fees by December. Yet He has not been called from d Australian embassy for visa processing or so ever since he did and submitted his medical assessment test this year.... What could be the reason for the delay?

Good Afternoon my people,
Can I use ordinary national diploma certificate or transcript for my educational evidence since TRA is asking for minimum of diploma
Re: General Australian Student Visa Enquiries Part 3 by alao1981: 3:11pm On May 18, 2021
Just to be clear, the Australian embassy will not call you for visa processing. It is all done online on the immi portal. If he has submitted his application on the portal and submitted his biometrics at VFS, he should continue to check. If they require any information from him, they will typically send an email with the request. If his application is still under review, the status will state so on the portal
