The question people should be asking is how did she end up with a fake admission if she wasn’t trying to cheat the system by bribing her way through.

Good question!!

Hello all,

I am a chartered accountant with 10 years professional experience. I also seeking admission to study M.Sc in UK. My family will be joining me before the end of my program. But my worries are location of the universities. I really prefer schooling in London to any other city because of the job opportunities especially for my field.

But I am worried about the cost of living for a family of 4. Is it advisable to school in London and still live on an average standard.

Or are there outskirts city close to London where one can live and commute easily to London.

Also can please suggest other good cities in the UK?

Please note getting admission is not really a challenge for me.

Thank you

Trying to get fake admission is not a mistake. This means depriving other students that worked hard of their place. Let’s call a spade a spade and not sweep the real problem here underneath the carpet.

NHS jobs is now IHS-free and with reduced visa application fees right?

I am currently on the Slavish tier 2 visa which still have a 2 year validity.

I now have an NHS job (which is IHS-free).
If I switch to health & care visa. Will I receive any refunds for the 2 year IHS that I had paid for the tier-2 visa?

Help needed, please.

You'll receive some refund for this. Keep hammering them with emails, and something will drop.

Do you know why most Nigerians are looking for a plan B and vacating the country in drones? It’s because when we see things that are wrong we ignore them, we don’t call out our leaders. These problems started long time ago in very small doses, this has now escalated into anarchy.
Somebody paid for Boris’s wall paper although he paid it back but a big issue is being made of it because it is wrong. In the eyes of the typical Nigerian it will be like “what is the fuss all about”?
All of us together have killed Nigeria because of what we have done or failed to do. There’s right and there’s wrong.

There is nothing to call a spade here.

You are making sweeping claims without having a detailed fact of the matter.

Just be aware it is actually illegal to use the electric one on public roads and foot paths. It's also a very dangerous scooter..., my little time in A&E, heard of 3 very serious almost life-changing injuries, if you use on public roads. Some people use it, but its at their risk. You are only allowed to use it if its part of a Govt trial

The silent corruption in this government is just too much ..... Boris cabinet and Naija politicians no difference

But weeks later, PDL was awarded a no-competition contract worth £102.6million for better quality masks following negotiations between the Government and Mr Jassal.

Senior civil servants wrote emails expressing their concern that these masks were costing the taxpayer almost double the going 'benchmark' price.

The grass sometimes is never greener on the other side .... . Home is what you make of it .Canada might be better but it can also be 100 times worse.

Espress entry, work or school will be the option

Genuinely curious, what don’t you like about the environment? Is it the weather? Infrastructure? People?

Not gonna lie, when I arrived as well, I wasn’t all that impressed (I’ll blame Hollywood movies here).

Re: Options; Migrating through work remains up there but studies too is viable. You stand a better chance applying from here than from Naija anyways.

Best of lucks.

Best place to ask about moving to Canada would logically be the Canada threads.
And apart from driving on the correct side of the road and bigger cars, Canada is likely to be just the UK writ small.

OMG, this part I don't like to tell people.

I am in a school in the North of England and their accent their na die. It was hard for the students to understand my accent at first. Everytime it's PARDON.
I had to fine tune my accent eventually, and try to speak slowly (this is still hard cos I sometimes stutter).

The clarity in speech comes with time but with conscious effort.

Tbh, I’ve gave up adapting to anymore accents just so they can understand me. Naaa fam, if you don’t get this well enunciated words which are quite audible to the both of us, then you’re the one who really need to be writing these IELTS exams though. cheesy cheesy

As a teacher, I suppose you gotta make it work whichever way. Kudos!

This is well said, at least in the Nigerian context.

I'm no fan of the corruption that has eaten away at Nigerian society in terms of denying people opportunities especially as my age group was basically the last that benefited from a good system - you wrote common entrance in the 80s and got your admission to a federal government college based on your score, letter sent to you at home through NIPOST (which used to function excellently in all ramifications, e.g. my father used to send me 20 naira from time to time as pocket money by postal orders when I was in boarding school, everything would arrive on time and intact), nobody went anywhere begging, you write JAMB and get a score, then you are offered admission, again by a letter posted to your home address, no effort on your part, it's when you don't like what you get that you go looking for supplementary admission/remedial course, etc. None of the jobs I got required any "contacts", that sort of thing. Of course people have always been fixing themselves and their relations up in Nigeria from time immemorial, but the system used to allow for people who had no connections to flourish as well.

But Nigeria changed, spoiled, then rotted and sadly the system which worked for us ceased to work fairly, and now you can get absolutely nothing in Nigeria without knowing or paying someone, so people had to work out their own salvation so to speak, in order to get things for themselves. Not all the people who were forced to resort to buying admission and all that would have preferred the system to work that way, because it took away the somewhat level playing field that had obtained up till then. Some did, yes, some didnt.

In the course of doing what most other people were doing to get by and resorting to corruption, some people got bitten, and scammed with fake admission, things like that. That is the reality, and without knowing the details of this lady's circumstances at the time, I agree with you that no-one can be blamed if they were forced into that situation by what our country has sadly become.

Ma'am... I am not justifying anything but I put it squarely to you that it doesn't always work as you have described it and that's not in anyway because the person involved is corrupt or is seeking corrupt ways.

There are lots of indices that are often at play which can many times be beyond the control of the individual in question.

There are plenty of examples that buttresses this fact but I won't waste time listing them... You already know, except you haven't lived in Nigeria or are privileged or all of your family friends, close acquaintances and neighbours are so privileged not to have had the need to deal with public schools in Nigeria.

And to the bolded... Yes e pass like that in many instances.

My brother, I understand but you see this corruption, it is everywhere even in this obodo UK, they just give theirs fancy names.

It was on this thread that someone mentioned something about former Prime Minister Blair (or some other person) who abused his authority by seeking and awarding contracts or something of that nature.

Recall the act wasn't called corruption rather, it was christened a fancy name.

Nigeria is corrupt. Fantastically and Institutionally, we are very corrupt and I hope we get it right. But you see, my original statement on the matter was borne out of my observation of how sanctimonious most responses are to issues brought to this thread.

Many sit on high horses and condemn or make sweeping verdicts to issues they barely have the facts. And oftentimes, the comments aren't pretty.

Experience has taught me that life is not a one size fit all. Be kind even in reproach.

Let’s stop hopping and giving excuses, let’s start doing something to change it no matter how little.
At our very little level let’s condemn what is wrong and practically do what is right .

The UK is corrupt true but they still look after themselves, keep the stolen money within their system , invest in their system and support what is right. Nigerian is corrupt and wicked no matter how we look at it.

Very very few Nigerians are corrupt but majority give excuses.

I agree with you in so many ways but the bolded is where my emphasis still lies.

In condemning, let's do so with caution as we may not be privy to all the facts at play.

The woman lied or didn't make full disclosure to her husband... That's her cross to bear but you see the one about the admission being fake and all... Not everyone found in that situation set out to cheat the system (that's all I have to say about that matter).

And again, my comments aren't just about this case but many others before it. It's starting to seem like a pattern.
