With the Federal job, you will get promoted to a very good rank and earn more with rest of mind. Redeployment to the north is not an issue, you can seize the opportunity to go into farming to support the salary, farming is very lucrative considering the high cost food items in the market.

Bank Job if you are employed as a core-staff , but federal job still the best (depends on the level and grade).

The Federal government job would have been better, but you are not guaranteed of job.
If it were me, I will stick with the bank job, but if there is any way you can go for the training without losing out on the bank job then go for it.
About converting to the B.sc level, get the Federal job first after you have been confirmed you can then pursue your conversion.

Hello Nairalanders, I don't know if this is the right section to post this but I need your sincere contributions, advice on a career path I'm about to take. I will go straight to it:

I have been searching for a job for some months now. I applied in several startups but wasn't fortunate in getting replies from them. I recently got a job in a new generation bank and it's at their HQ in Lagos Island. I had barely stayed up to a week before I got a mail from the Nigerian Immigration Service concerning their screening exercise.
I have never been in such position to pick one, because from the look of things, I can't seem to have it both ways but I may just be wrong. I decided to list out the pros and cons of both jobs.

Bank job pros:
• Salary is close to 100k.
• Transportation is free I.e zero cost
• Positive working environment.
• Learning on the job.
• Job growth.
• Job flexibility- I will start working from home as soon as I get a good grasp handling some things, that means I may be coming to the office 3 times in 5 days. That means I'll be able to run my side hustle as well.

Bank Job cons:
• Distance from home to office is quite far. Due to Lagos traffic, I leave home by 4.45am and the office by 5pm and get home by 8-9pm.
• No job security.

Federal govt. Job pros:
• Job growth.
• Job security.
• Flexible: I can comfortably run my side hustles.
• Probably deployed to a state that isn't expensive like Lagos.

Federal govt. Job cons:
• I applied with my OND(national diploma) so I would have to start from level 6.
• Less than 60k salary for a start (from the Info I gathered).
• Probably redeployed to the Northeast of Nigeria
• Since it is just a screening exercise, there's no guarantee I'd get my appointment letter.

Please, if there are people working with the system,
I need to know how many days would the training exercise take?
What's the starting salary of an AII(Assistant inspector of Immigration)?
Can I upgrade my level now that I have my BSc, if I get the job? If yes, then how?

I seriously need your advice and answers to those questions I asked, so I can draw my conclusion from them, because the decision I will take may either make or break me. Thank you.

PS: I have just 10 days till the screening exercise and I would have to travel down to my state of origin for the exercise.

Please MODs, move this to the front page.

. Don't leave your job yet Go for the screening and get your appointment letter before you leave the bank job.Yiur point of entry is ND but you can still process upgrading depending on whom you know and your level of connection.Imivration job is better than bank job where you are likely employed as a contract staff and may be dismissed at any time.I pray you are through with Immigration job...Finally don't leave the bank job until you get your appointment letter for immigration job.Good luck

Banks have core-staff and Contract staff. Most core staff earn good money and have other side hustle that gives them excess money. Dont downgrade the real money people.

Only lazy people and people without ambitions work for the state. Government job is overrated unless you are aiming to steal from government, go for the banking job.. At this young age and with lots of energy, you need plenty money.. Not job security.

Go after money guy and get bigger in life..

Bro the best thing you will do for yourself is going for the bank job. You will gain lots of experience and you will understand how the financial economy and monetary system really works. You will be exposed to stock trading and even the insider tradings activities of hedge funds and investment bankers. If you are smart in the banking sector you will become an indispensable and even leave the banking sector early enough to start your own firm. Consider the risk involved in serving in the northeast and exposure to the curropt system in FG jobs. With the current change in global system, financial literacy is the best exposure anyone can get right now. Working remotely is also very good as the time and age we are in right now too much movement here and there is not safe. Be wise and go learn the banking systems, insider trading, market making, stock market manipulation and tools used to effectively trade the stock market. Your billionaire status is sure in the be as rest future.

Most importantly go for the one with more long-term peace to you sha.
No be hear say. Once you are confirmed I a government job, it is rare before they can sack you. You will only be sacked if the ogas at the top really mean to sack you, and you must have committed an unpardonable sin against the government or the senior men in your ministry/parastatal.

Well, i can say I'm 80% sure I'd get the job after the screening exercise. My credentials are all intact, I'm sure I did pretty well with the CBT exam. Last time I carried out a medical test, I was certified OK and fit.
Re: Bank Job Or Federal Government Job? by BioGreen: 9:38am On May 17, 2021
Try as much as possible to run the two until you hold the FG Agency appointment letter then go for FG as you are sure of job security till 60yrs/35 years of service.

Note that most quoted salaries for FG jobs as basic as other benefits may apply.

Also, when it comes to FG/Govt job never be too sure/confident no matter how good you think you are until you hold your appointment letter & have resumed and done documentation/induction since "parade" can change at any time.

Simple

I just started the job. There's no way I can go AWOL. I'll be seriously queried or worse, fired.

I don't know how many days the screening exercise will take. If it's a day or two, I guess I can spin out something.

You've already answered your question...bank job doesn't come with job security. You can be laid off without notice.

For the federal job, you can always upgrade your credentials which will boost your chances of getting promoted, and also, you'll have enough time for a side Hussle.

The choice is yours.

Getting Federal jobs are mostly based on referrals, for over 5 years no federal government parastatal apart from the military has openly advertised recruitment exercise, so applying is impossible since there's no portal where you can submit your application to.

If you know anyone in any ministry he or she can refer you, and you'll be employed based on who brought you into the job, that's how it is with federal government jobs.
