How long does ICPC paramilitary training last?
Do they carry ammunitions or have uniform?
Also who have an Idea on how much FG pays ICPC workers?
For entry Level BSC

Hello Nairalanders, I don't know if this is the right section to post this but I need your sincere contributions, advice on a career path I'm about to take. I will go straight to it:

I have been searching for a job for some months now. I applied in several startups but wasn't fortunate in getting replies from them. I recently got a job in a new generation bank and it's at their HQ in Lagos Island. I had barely stayed up to a week before I got a mail from the Nigerian Immigration Service concerning their screening exercise.
I have never been in such position to pick one, because from the look of things, I can't seem to have it both ways but I may just be wrong. I decided to list out the pros and cons of both jobs.

Bank job pros:
• Salary is close to 100k.
• Transportation is free I.e zero cost
• Positive working environment.
• Learning on the job.
• Job growth.
• Job flexibility- I will start working from home as soon as I get a good grasp handling some things, that means I may be coming to the office 3 times in 5 days. That means I'll be able to run my side hustle as well.

Bank Job cons:
• Distance from home to office is quite far. Due to Lagos traffic, I leave home by 4.45am and the office by 5pm and get home by 8-9pm.
• No job security.

Federal govt. Job pros:
• Job growth.
• Job security.
• Flexible: I can comfortably run my side hustles.
• Probably deployed to a state that isn't expensive like Lagos.

Federal govt. Job cons:
• I applied with my OND(national diploma) so I would have to start from level 6.
• Less than 60k salary for a start (from the Info I gathered).
• Probably redeployed to the Northeast of Nigeria
• Since it is just a screening exercise, there's no guarantee I'd get my appointment letter.

Please, if there are people working with the system,
I need to know how many days would the training exercise take?
What's the starting salary of an AII(Assistant inspector of Immigration)?
Can I upgrade my level now that I have my BSc, if I get the job? If yes, then how?

I seriously need your advice and answers to those questions I asked, so I can draw my conclusion from them, because the decision I will take may either make or break me. Thank you.

PS: I have just 10 days till the screening exercise and I would have to travel down to my state of origin for the exercise.

Please MODs, move this to the front page.

CrazyMan.

Oga continue with the bank job
- free transport
- positive working environment
- Job flexibility. Work from home

A couple of years in the bank job, you can switch to any industry.

With the immigration job, that's probably what you will be doing for life.

It depends.

If u are a main staff not contract, go for Bank Job. U will be exposed and can grow quickly.

If na contract job, go for FG

What exactly is this growth you guys are talking about?

Does it mean that you will learn how to start your own bank after working for some years in the bank?

You will be the most foolish person on earth to dump immigration job for bank job in Nigeria. I started off like you with my ND in one of the new generation bank. I wasted 10 years of my life and was layer off. I have BSC and other certificates. During my time, I thought I had career in banking so I rejecting DSS and NDLEA jobs. That 100k bank is paying you is nothing compared to the freedom and peace of mind for a government job of 50k. I am certain the bank job you are talking about is a contract employment. These days 90% of banks will not allow you stay beyond 5yrs, they will terminate your contract.

no be by all this stuff you mentioned above, your connection na him go give you immigration job. And you can do a conversation after training they will now place you properly with your degree, but you gat to spend small case for immigration board before they will convert you from assistant inspector to surpretendent cadre

. Don't leave your job yet Go for the screening and get your appointment letter before you leave the bank job.Yiur point of entry is ND but you can still process upgrading depending on whom you know and your level of connection.Imivration job is better than bank job where you are likely employed as a contract staff and may be dismissed at any time.I pray you are through with Immigration job...Finally don't leave the bank job until you get your appointment letter for immigration job.Good luck

I want to hold on to the bank job but the issue is how I can present it to my team leader that I want to take leave barely two weeks into my new job.
What do you suggest I do?

With your entry qualification, you are starting on level 6/7

You are not going to be upgraded with your BSc, but it will help you in your subsequent promotions

Yes you will be going for 3 months training in either Orlu, Ahoada or kano

You may be or may not be posted to the North because you are a fresher but with time, you will be posted there

There is job security for you and some freedom for you

Your salary will be nit be upto 100k but with steady promotion you will raise

Being an officer gives you an edge

I don't know much about banking but I know that you are not guaranteed of the job till retirement

The Federal government job would have been better, but you are not guaranteed of job.
If it were me, I will stick with the bank job, but if there is any way you can go for the training without losing out on the bank job then go for it.
About converting to the B.sc level, get the Federal job first after you have been confirmed you can then pursue your conversion.

I can't ask for leave. I need to know how many days the exercise will take, so I can determine my next line of action.

The screening is usually done within weeks, depending on the day your rank falls into
Re: Bank Job Or Federal Government Job? by Africanpride123(m): 10:43am On May 17, 2021
Find a way to attend the screening, u cannot compare a banking job paying N100k to a federal job of N60k. The bank will just catapult u to a level u aint prepared yet, then when life starts to sweet u, they throw u out.

Every mid level to low level banker u see is applying for a federal job paying half their present salary... I know because i have tens of them as relatives or friends.

Be wise, bank no be work for naija!

Federal job last selection process is not determined by all that, hold on to your bank job and after getting APPOINTMENT letter and DEPLOYMENT LETTER you can move to the federal job if it's replacement you will get salary at the end of the month if it is fresh recruitment you might have to wait till after 6 months or a year before you start getting salary after you have done capturing and you will wait till after 2 years before you are confirmed.

I work at the HQ in Lagos island, not behind a counter. Not every banker you see is faking it. My senior colleagues in the office are all doing well for themselves. Lol. Bros abeg, don't use bank teller job to judge all bankers.

Bro the best thing you will do for yourself is going for the bank job. You will gain lots of experience and you will understand how the financial economy and monetary system really works. You will be exposed to stock trading and even the insider tradings activities of hedge funds and investment bankers. If you are smart in the banking sector you will become an indispensable and even leave the banking sector early enough to start your own firm. Consider the risk involved in serving in the northeast and exposure to the curropt system in FG jobs. With the current change in global system, financial literacy is the best exposure anyone can get right now. Working remotely is also very good as the time and age we are in right now too much movement here and there is not safe. Be wise and go learn the banking systems, insider trading, market making, stock market manipulation and tools used to effectively trade the stock market. Your billionaire status is sure in the be as rest future.
The kind of nation we found ourselves has thought us to be consumer instead of producer even when we have means to the latter.

And to think the country dwindly economy has not helped the hard working ones is another thing.

If only we have a working and reliable economy policy, your advice is second to none, except that Nigeria is unpredictable.
Re: Bank Job Or Federal Government Job? by 9japride(m): 11:37am On May 17, 2021
@Op if you know what's good for you, go for the federal government job. The polical environment is not stable one junkie can just come up with one funny policy and boom one loses hes/her job especially outside the federal government settings. With federal government job you can make advancement in your educational career though the salary in your early stages might be low
Re: Bank Job Or Federal Government Job? by integrity16(m): 11:48am On May 17, 2021
They won't accept your B. Sc because they were not notified at the time you started the B. Sc program as required by the public service rules.

This is Naija, except you have someone at the top who can help you with the upgrade from the back door.

The only good thing about the federal job is the security, then the chance to grow through the ranks and luckily it's immigration, a Revenue generating Agency.

No Salary for the first three months, but by the end of he fourth month all would be paid.

Don't Quit your Bank job till you have received an Offer of Employment letter from Immigration.

Screening Exercise is not a guarantee that they will select you. The highest you can do is request for some days off from the Bank and participate in the screening exercise.

Screening Exercise is not a guarantee that you have gotten the job, Be wise or you end up loosing both.
