Let’s stop hopping and giving excuses, let’s start doing something to change it no matter how little.
At our very little level let’s condemn what is wrong and practically do what is right .

The UK is corrupt true but they still look after themselves, keep the stolen money within their system , invest in their system and support what is right. Nigerian is corrupt and wicked no matter how we look at it.

Very very few Nigerians are corrupt but majority give excuses.

This here, is a perfect example of oxymoron. “Let’s stop giving excuses for corruption in Nigeria, but let’s excuse the corruption in the UK because they look after themselves and keep the stolen money within their system, blah blah blah”.

Wehdon sir!

This is impracticable.
So let's take the corruption at immigration for instance. Say I want to travel and can only get a passport after paying a bribe, as the current immigration setup has it.

Do I decide to be a good Nigerian and pay the official fee and run the risk of never seeing the passport I paid for or simply pay the bribe, get the passport and undertake the trip I want to take?

Let's be realistic. Nigeria needs more than individual pockets of resisters trying to resist what has become the system.

It will be an insult to compare the level of corrupt in Nigeria to that of the UK, if what is happening in the UK happens in Nigeria then Nigeria will not be in the list of corrupt countries in the world.

If the UK is anywhere as corrupt as Nigeria me and you will not be living in this country today.

You are part of the problem, you can’t bribe your way out of the problem, you can’t keep bribing the officials and still complain about the system.

A lot of people get their passports through DIY without bribing anyone.

Individually we have to start somewhere, who will do it for us? You bribed your way into a position of authority you will look away when the corrupt practices is going on because you are part of it .

Which one is council tax again? Like the bills isn't enough to throw someone in debt, council tax comes knocking.
People will only come and talk about how their rent is "£xyz" without talking about how council tax and bills run into hundreds.

Done and supported by Nigerians. Many of us are enjoying relatively sane system but have to gut to support and give excuses about corruption in Nigeria

This is the attitude that takes us nowhere.
Individual stands, however commendable, are ultimately futile because the system steamrolls you. What is needed is concerted action.
Nigeria needs root and branch reform and it's well recognised that speaking English on the internet will achieve nothing.
The EndSARS movement was the type of thing that is needed.

For Nigeria to get better, the mindsets of most Nigerians needs to be rebooted. You can’t give excuse for any kind of corruption. Most of the things done in Nigeria if you do them here, you will go to jail. If Nigerians stop giving bribe then there will be less officers asking for bribe.
-Don’t bribe immigration make sure you have got all your right documentation and not carrying anything you’re not suppose to be carrying.
Be courteous and polite when dealing with Nigerian officers.
-Don’t bribe police make sure you have your right documents and obey traffic laws.
Etc.
Anytime time I visit Nigeria, I drive and I get stopped by the police , I produce most of my papers. They call me bad market and ask me to drive off.
The same thing at the Airport. I think it’s morally corrupt and embarrassing for a uniform officer to be begging for money at the point of entry of any country.
There are lots of poor countries around the world that are not as corrupt as Nigeria, it’s just greed, wickedness and laziness bonged into one that is affecting the country.
Enough of the excuses it’s getting boring now.

Hi everyone.

So, for those of you waiting for a passport renewal appointment, remember to print your passport payment slip, acknowledgment slip & application form (signed).

My experience today was not different from my last appointment in January 2016. The customer service is non-existent. The people attending to me were quite rude, impatient, and angry. The offices have not changed and the waiting area was rowdy with nobody observing social distancing. My initial appointment was on the 12th however, upon arriving at Victoria coach station on the 11th I received a cancelation notification and a reschedule till today. I had to go back to Swansea and book my hotel room again.

What still surprises me is that in 2021 we are still dealing with printing paper and submitting paper applications and after biometric capture, you still have to fill another form. There has to be some sort of digital innovation that would make the whole process hassle-free for both staff and customers.

I forgot to add that you must come with a self-addressed priority envelope for your new passport to be sent to you.

Airy-fairy theorising about corruption in Nigeria gets us nowhere.

Corrupt systems create chokepoints where they entrap the citizenry and extort money. Leave aside the example of facing down the police when one has correct papers, that's different, requires some luck depending on the policeman, etc. Take systemic chokepoints such as getting to a public hospital and being told to pay something to get a bedspace or even to be seen in the first place. Or having university admission for which one is qualified withheld because one cannot/refuses to pay gratification. In such cases, if one takes a principled stand, one gets nothing and is deprived of something, i.e. treatment at the public hospital is not given, so either they go and die, or have to find money for a private hospital, or end up without a desired university degree, etc.

All right-thinking people loathe the whole horrible system of corruption. But pretending it is easily dealt with by personal action is basically daydreaming.

So I speak in 3rd party as I never saw the email but hearsay

My hubby applied in August and said he just heard back from Nigeria embassy last week asking him to come this week for capture..however in his case he was giving a date and time. Then I asked that but how does naija embassy know if that time is OK by the applicant and he said somewhere in the mail states that if that time is not suitable then you can come anytime within a 2 weeks time frame.

So I am telling you as I heard without seeing the mail. The last part makes me conclude that you can go there and walk in. Worse case go with a copy of the letter/ mail that shows no time or date given

So that's 9 months.
Mine's expiring in a year's time, so that means I should apply now, so they'll get back to me in January.

This the fundamental problem with Nigeria . It is not corruption but deep rooted wickedness/ evil.

Some stories are just so disturbing and you wonder how did we get there as a society. If we had even just stopped at corruption it would have been redeemable....

Goodluck to those still hoping say e go better

Ma'am... I am not justifying anything but I put it squarely to you that it doesn't always work as you have described it and that's not in anyway because the person involved is corrupt or is seeking corrupt ways.

There are lots of indices that are often at play which can many times be beyond the control of the individual in question.

There are plenty of examples that buttresses this fact but I won't waste time listing them... You already know, except you haven't lived in Nigeria or are privileged or all of your family friends, close acquaintances and neighbours are so privileged not to have had the need to deal with public schools in Nigeria.

And to the bolded... Yes e pass like that in many instances.

I almost will give you this one and say yes my words are wrong because let me not judge until you walk in ones shoes .....

except that even if there been issues with someone admission . You can always try again the proper way till you get it right. That always better than living a lie

True, but annoying all the same.
The rest of the world was adapting during the various lockdowns - these incompetent people in Nigerian immigration could have come up with a system allowing for the reissuance of passports to all those whose biometrics are in the system already, for instance. After all, developed countries with even more secure systems than ours issue passports through online application, why can't we do so as well.
