Una go just opened mouth waahhh all in the name of say u are criticizing govt, this is something that ought to have been done a very long time ago. I pray for success of things like this and more of it.
Una go just vomit trash in the name of defending govt. Until now nobody has been able to provide a concrete reason for this new regulation or even show countries where IMEI submission has been mandated.

Do this people understand that IMEI of most phones can be also be manipulated?

If the linking of NIN to Service Providers haven't yielded the desired results why the rush of uploading IMEI?

There are ways to curtail this insecurity which the government haven't really explore. If I may ask, how many of our Police Stations have a tracking devices & how many of the police personnel's can effectively use them? Let them resume the basis & see things work Luke magic. My humble opinion ooh
This has nothing to do with tracking criminals and everything to do with tracking people who disagree with the government.

These are the same people who blocked the accounts of protesters without warning and even lied about it.

At this point the government and it's supporters are simply evil and must be resisted.

Very simple... the criteria of purchasing any simpack is always that you register it there and then before it will be handed to you... it usually takes 2mins to register at any shop...That will reduce crime alot in Nigeria... I'm even surprised that it has not been introduced in Nigeria in this modern time...Every shop that sells sim is linked with network providers...
.what is this one saying

Just type this enquiry on a search engine and read up on IMEI. The problem is that most of you don't want to lift a finger to get facts but can allow bigotry and hatred especially against PMB to becloud your sense of judgement. What's the big deal in domesticating IMEI by having your own national register so you can quickly intervene especially in case of serious security breach involving lives.
You have opinions on everything but you need to match it with intellectual depth. Except you have problems with security, this should be the least of your worry. Read. That man Pantami you all loathe is far more intelligent than most of you and has a PhD in what most of you have little or no idea about. If you want to counter such a person, you must read far and wide. Good morning sir.

Which one is Shekau using? Have they registered it and the kidnappers they paid ransom to hope their sims are registered.

Then why not use nin to achieve this why all this registration is like they are up to something.
Yes they are in a way because If registered, and u have a contract with a mobile carrier say MTN, the government could use a search warrant to access your IMEI information for number and location tracking. So even if you swap out your SIM card with a prepaid one, you can still be traced if you were using that phone.

It is only a criminal here that will not support this gentleman’s proposal. Carry on Mr. Pantami. The rate of kidnapping offs me atimes.
If DNS can be manipulated by simple App then IMEI can be changed by Apps in a rooted phone with each call.

Technology has left Nigeria.

This Pantami boy no get advisers and family.....

Nigerians would come for him again and drag him through mud

Anyways it's a very good innovation.... Phone thieves would run out of business, if phone IMEI is registered to an individual
They just want to monitor us, your phone's safety is not their issue

Ok but that's already in place with the IMEI, the cell tower and yhe nin can help with that.

Some people uses Sim that can be easily destroyed because of their notorious activities right?... but a registered cellphone can help put a name to it...except if that person have a lot of money to buy so many cellphones..

IS THAT A PRIORITY NOW ?
That was my question ?
U sef try dey look well b4 u begin open mouth.
What could be more priority in a country faced with legions of problems like ours where there's no proper means of identifying it's citizens or the level of insecurity where kidnappers easily uses mobile phones in carrying out thier heinous acts with no way of tracing them, the number one way to plan for development by any govt is to first properly capture it's citizenry, that way development could be planned on appropriate data. The only people that could counter those moves are just people with questionable characters.

Surely if you are confident in this statement you should be able to provide at least one country.

It's not actually. Amazing how Nigerians want the best of everything, but don't want any regulation so they can be off the grid and hide.

In most countries government has access to much more info about citizens. If I have nothing to hide, what is the big deal.

Only thing though is how do they collect this data. Once it can be done electronically without anyone going to queue at MTN office, we will so be it. Besides knowing Nigeria, we will after collecting the data they will have no clue what to do with it.

BVN and NIN identy the owner, and but doesn't help anyone track the phone. That's the difference. I understand Imei can be used to track phone even when switched off due to minute pings with cell tower.

They will steal your phone... yes but it will be useless.. because you will report and it will be locked. before it's opened, Questions like
IS it a SIM Locked? Was this phone stolen or lost? and so on ..All this uncomfortable questions would be asked and it will be dictated in the system when the person comes to unlock... It would deter some people from buying stolen phones..And before any phone is opened, you come with some ID...Like international passport, Local ID not birth certificate smiley....
What of a situation where the phone was stolen and the person that stole the phone used it to commit crime or the phone was trace to a crime scene. Nah another problem be that , note in this country where even if you complaint to Authority immediately after the phone theft , they will still be harrasing you for questioning.... Although it is a good idea but the laziness of black man will not let the good motive of the initiative to function well.

Typical APC goon, when you can't defend your silly position you result to calling others IPOB. grin

I asked for a simple real world piece of evidence for the statement and you're here crying.

The IMEI website contradicts your statements as the blocking of phones is at the discretion of the network operators and not the government.

The ignorance you people exhibit is staggering.
