I plan to mark these two sides of this house with wall grooves, like we did in a former project of ours.........

Subject to the house owners approval of course cheesy

You should be happy that there are no two front pillars to complement the roof. That's an improvement.

I suspect that when you give our Nigerian architects a contract to design a building, most of them draw the front pillars and roof first, then try to figure out the rest.
\

Na the matter wey me and my woman take quarrel. Most Nigerians fancy these pillars and believed that the pillars makes the house looks elegant. Far from it. My build is a typical contemporary build with mono pitch roof. But my woman, with her Nigerian mentality, believes that all the houses in Nigeria must have those pillars. Modern architecture don't come with pillars.

Usually, it is not the fault of the Architect. It is the client that mostly request the presence of those pillars and high roof

Although am not making a defence for the 'now vilified' front pillars, but with Africa being as hot as it is, we sometimes need a space in a part of the building where we can come out under a sort of shade and cool off for some minutes/hours daily. The space needs to be cross ventilated and also a place we can sit or stand to survey the passing traffic, Holla out to neighbours in our African brotherly greetings. Won't the front of the house be a good place to rest and generally gossip about our neighbours old cars and ugly fences? cheesy

Since its economical to hang a covered deck between the front pillars, it will look appealing to a lot of folks.

Lots of sense in your analysis. I agree. It provides an avenue for open air relaxation and watch events happening outside from the comfort of your home. Very valid points. Very very convincing.

However, a well-designed roof tops does it for me.

But Bros o, this design you posted here, even with the pillars, looks so beautiful. I wouldn't mind this modern design with pillars. Well done.

I won't use "vilified" grin. It is just the observation of our people's penchant for joining the bandwagon. After all Africa is a hot climate and we have survived centuries without "2FP". Do you remember the curved edge houses in the 90's? Everyone had 'em. Now we have "Send down the rain" mingling with the angels in the sky. Our amiable friend "2 front pillars(2FP)" is en vogue. God forbid our architects omit it, they will draw from memory. What's new? Bricks on everything.

This plastering images were taken a few days ago, we are trying to do the two pillars framing the long windows. Our plan is to use rough tiles to finish that area.

The area marked "X" with green should be plastered smooth and will be painted with the same colour of paint used in the whole front, the area marked "X" with red will have rough tiles, or stones to beautify the front, framing the windows. The white marked indicates the demarcation belts that will be painted a different colour to enhance the borders.

Hahaha, guys am one of those pillar gang. I choose to have 11 pillars in of mine house in designs stage, until I saw the bill that call mine pockets to order, even with that I reduce it to 5. I just love to see them same as high roofing on building designs especially the rounds ones. My dislike for flat roof, I don't think will even take it for free. Just like man choice of woman stay the way you are, you will fine who will love you the way you are. I'm sorry ladies, it a fact we deal with as men with different taste and choice .

Each to his own. I used to be a fan when I was still growing up in the East then. Anybody that built then with those front pillars were hailed and the building do look imposing then. But right now, my taste and perception has changed based on vast exposure and my understanding of what contemporary builds are made of.

If yes, with the mad rise in prices of rods, why is his not widely adopted?

That's bamboo reinforcement, I hear its widely used as pillars reinforcement in some south east Asia countries. We are not using it so much here because of our building regulatory system which seems to be fixed and not as flexible as its supposed to be. University research is almost dead as funding is almost mon existent.
