The advantages include its simplicity, and as you said, its relatively less costly to do than the more stepped or curved types, the curved types uses a lot of plywood which are not cheap these days.

N1.2m for most of the works, not all. They agreed to throw in the security post plastering at that cost, but refused to add the fence or pillars because the fence is long.

Exactly my thought looking at the construction, it also gives the traditional fascia look.
All woods are not cheap these days especially 1x12.

If yes, with the mad rise in prices of rods, why is his not widely adopted?

There are lots of people who are yet to embrace the advancement in building construction especially as it concerns reinforcements.

I suggested bamboo to a client who was complaining bitterly about the high cost of rods here in Port Harcourt.
At the time, we were in lintel stage so the man agreed and we used it for his lintels.
Up till now, no ish.

We're almost done with wall plastering in this house, the plastering team now departs to wait for the arrival of the windows, meanwhile the POP ceiling team will move in by Monday.

So far, very nearly 300 bags of cement and about 20 trips of sand used, but the work is still not completed. All bedrooms, all living rooms, all washrooms and kitchens plastered.

We bought and brought in more ceiling POP materials to this site today. Work starts tomorrow.

The main advantage is for moisture retention for a longer period on the newly cast decking slab, just to ensure adequate curing of the concrete slab.

Other advantages include the preservation of the wood below the slab, as less wet concrete will be placed directly on the wood, it will be good enough for reuse.

The obvious disadvantage is the additional cost of the nylon.
