Don't confuse Basic military training which is what is done at depot and other military institutions in the world for specialised trainings, after depot training some will still go for further training. Nobody will be teaching you advanced counter Insurgency, etc At boot camp when the most important thing at that stage is learning how to properly shoot your rifles, read and interpret maps, fieldcraft etc. Military training is always a continuum.

Some soldiers attached to the Office of the National Security Adviser yesterday prevented operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from marking some of the property belonging to the Director of Finance in the ONSA, Brig.-Gen. Jafaru Mohammed.

The property are under an interim forfeiture order.

Justice Folashade Giwa-Ogunbanjo of the Federal High Court, Abuja, had, on March 9, 2021, granted an ex-parte application brought by the EFCC for an interim order of forfeiture over some identified property linked to the senior military officer.

The court also ordered the EFCC to publicise the interim forfeiture of the assets and invited people “who may have interest in the assets and properties listed in the schedule to show cause, within 14 days of such publication, why a final order of forfeiture to the Federal Government of Nigeria of the said assets and properties should not be made.”

Residents of Sun City, an upscale housing estate on the outskirt of Abuja, reported a near stand-off yesterday morning between EFCC operatives and military men in plain cloth and uniform at one of the assets located in the estate.

Daily Trust gathered that stern-looking soldiers stationed at one of the houses located at No 25, Osaka Street, upon sighting the anti-graft operatives at about 10am, became furious and ensured that the house was not marked with red inscription “EFCC: Keep off”.

While the two sides were exchanging words, over 20 uniformed and plain-clothed soldiers arrived at the scene, resisting the attempt to mark the house.

“They came in an unmarked white Hilux and black jeep, then others came in a small car and more again in a bus,” a source explained.

When Daily Trust visited the area, it was observed that the soldiers were on red alert as they attempted to chase our correspondents who went on a fact-finding mission on the seized property.

Similarly, when our correspondents visited the property located at No 52, Main Street, also in Sun City Estate, it was observed that the property was marked by the commission, but hours later, the EFCC red inscription was covered off from the walls and the gate.

Daily Trust recalled that the assets traced to the proxies and associates of the Brigadier General, according to the court papers, include: House on Plot 7, God’s Own Estate, Road 1, Wamna District, Abuja; a fencer plot at No 1 Jubril Aminu Crescent, Katampe Extension, Abuja and plot at Kubwa Express, Directly opposite Abuja Model City Gate, Abuja;

Others are: A house on Block SD 22 House 2, Road 5, Kabusa Garden Estate, Abuja; No 15, 21 Crescent, 2nd Avenue, Gwarinpa Estate, Abuja; No 3 Liverpool Close, Sun City Estate, Abuja; No 52 Main Street, Sun City Estate, Abuja; and No 25 Osaka Street, Sun City Estate, Abuja.

The EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, in a telephone interview, said he was not aware of the squabble.

When contacted last night, the Office of the NSA directed our correspondent to the Brigadier General’s lawyer, Barr. Omokayode Adebayo Dada, who maintained that the EFCC, according to the law of the land, has no power to investigate a serving military officer.

The lawyer argued that the military officer was right to have prevented himself from harassment of the operatives, stressing that if there was any petition against him, the EFCC should formally write to the authorities of Nigerian Army who will then look at the case.

“Anything that has to do with a serving military officer, you dare not go by EFCC and say you have powers. Everything EFCC did was premised on the foundation of illegality. The man is a graduate and learned person, he knows the law that governs him.

“If he had not spoken all these while and he now woke up from slumber, then he has the right to repel them. He didn’t repel them illegally. They constituted illegality in his premises and he took steps to defend himself,” he said.

If you check these pages you'd see videos of Nigerian military personnel going through similar training, on ships, structures and buses.
what you talking about

Depot is not doing any serious tactical training make we no decieve ourselves. Most of what they consider training is just torture and punishment, which is reflecting in the way they treat civilians.

Other advance country military training academy will create real village for training purpose just to put reality and what is obtainable in real life situation into the training.

I watch a particular training of a country one time like that online (I can't remember), they put people who act as hostages in bus with other ones acting as abductors, then some guys on training had to rescue them.

Nigeria forces are only training men to be cruel.

This is also a form of federalism which devolves powers to smaller units like I said earlier things can be tweaked to meet today's realities. A constitution that allocates resources based on population and geographical size is fraudulent & it's bound to breed agitations.
Fiscal federalism in its truest sense is what majority of Nigerians are clamouring for if we're being honest.

The only thing wrong here is the stupid journalism. It is not the job of journalists to only tell us what party A and Party B said but to also educate the public on what is true.
Questions that needs to be answered are;
Is the ONSA a military or civilian Department?
Is the accused serving in a military or civilian capacity?
Does the case fall within the jurisdiction of the court that issued the order?
Why didn't the EFCC liase with the DHQ and military police to prosecute the accused.
The next step is for EFCC or any other relevant institutions to sue the soldiers for contempt of court and obstruction of justice. The military command can then decide to make it an institutional issue or let the soldiers and the said Brigadier Gen. The military command can appeal the case if they feel the court can't prosecute a case involving a serving military officer with their main argument being lack of jurisdiction.

Finally, I do not understand how a corrupt individual using the power of his office to evade justice will not make Nigeria better by 2035. This is even a good thing as it will most likely strengthen EFFC and courts should they win the case and it also shows that at least certain parts of government is actually working although facing lots of problems.
Issues like this happen everywhere and a good example is US government threatening the ICC with sanctions arguing that the ICC doesn't have the jurisdiction to investigate US military war crimes in Afghanistan. Does that mean US or the world will not be better by 2035?

This administrations attempted to grant local governments autonomy, all state governors united under the governor's forum fought against it. They are currently misappropriating funds meant for the local government.
This same administration gave the judiciary autonomy, the state governors have refused to do the same, judicial workers went on strike because of that but nothing came off it.

It is these same governors that are at the front of the struggle for restructuring. How exactly are we supposed to have strong institutions when governments at the state level are totally against it?

Please note that these same state governors under the governors forum have unanimously approved total deregulation of the oil sector and removal of subsidy and are looking forward to the sale of PMS at #385 per litre.

Is just like a 50 years old man raping a 6 years old girl, make Government decide to sue the person to court, make court com talk say make the man show up for court, make the man tell the court say e no fit show up cause he no concern the court and e don already dey settle things with the 6 years old girl family. So this is none of the court business because it is between him and the minor family.

The Nigerian constitution supercede any other law. That's why the Sharia court fit sentence a muslim to death and the court of appeal go throw away the judgement and set the person free, even though there is glaring evidence the person broke an islamic law.

I agree we need strong institutions but how do we now tackle the issue of revenue generation and sharing formula? Which in my own opinion is the major cause of the grumblings & rumblings in the country especially the Southern states. How can we explain to the common man that states can't generate their own power without being forced to feed it to the national grid? The matter just plenty.

Back to topic, I am very aware of the CDCC and a lot of the things that happened back then which produced the constitution, and ultimately the OBJ Government.

Still doesn't change the fact that the constitution writing process was kicked off by the military.

Which made them bigger stakeholders in the process, and the final result, than they should have been under normal circumstances.

I hope you are clear now.

Don't mind paid political jobbers. How can any sensible individual make nonsense of a constitution that was drafted by all the parties then via a conference similar to the 2014 confab. This is a constitution with the following features:
1)Establishment of the Federal Republic
2)Introduction of Parliamentary System of Government
3)Creation of Office of President
4)Federal Parliament
5) Distribution of Powers
6) The Executive
7) The Judiciary
8 ) Relationship Between Federal and Regional Constitutions
9) Regional Constitutions
10)Amendment of the Constitution

If we can't get a brand new constitution then we should go back to the 1963 constitution and amend to meet with the present day challenges, amending Abdulsalam's constitution is a bloody waste of time and resources.

IPOB can also appeal and argue jurisdiction. That is exactly what my point is. An accused person is hiding under the military justice system to evade justice, the next thing for the EFCC & the court to do is to first petition the military command on the crimes of the military personnel asking for clarification whether the military will take on the case as an organization or will cooperate with the court to prosecute the soldiers for obstruction of justice and contempt of court. If it is the former, EFFC can then drag the military to court or the judiciary tackle the military at a higher court. The military is subjected to the judgement of the Supreme Court. There is really no big deal here. In the first instance EFCC should have contacted DHQ over the case to know their stand on it.
It's not as if the military defends criminals, just last year Major. Gen. Hakeem Otiki was courtmatialed, demoted and dishounourably dismissed from the army.
The ONSA is a civilian organization and that is why Dasuki is not being prosecuted by a military court.

Maj. Gen Farouk Yahaya has been announced as the new chief of army staff.

It is very obvious the president wants people who have led counterinsurgency operations in the north east as service chiefs.
Appointing Maj. Gen Ben Ahanotu would have been more politically correct and in Today's political atmosphere would have been the wise choice.
Maj. Gen Farouk Yahaya is the current GOC 1 division and theater commander operation Hadin Kai.
Maj. Gen Ben Ahanotu was the commander of the operation that captured former Bokoharam commander in 2009.
Apart from that, Ben Ahanotu is of RC 35 while Farouk Yahaya is of RC 37. There are a few other senior officers from the north in between so this doesn't seem like Nepotism.
A.M Aliyu from Gombe state is of RC 36.
Another reason I would have loved to see Ahanotu as COAS is that he commanded 3 Armored division and that might play some role in seeing armors in the NE.

The ONSA is a civilian organization and that is why Dasuki is not being prosecuted by a military court.
You have no point.

The General embezzled government money! GEN Otiki faced a military court martial because nah army money he stole. And nah because soldiers carry the money run he faced a court martial.

The oga for ONSA case is very different from that of Gen. Otiki.

This present case have nothing to do with army money, nah Government money be this. It has nothing to do with contacting any military organization. Well this country nah anyhow country.

The EFCC did everything right.

Have a good day!
