Do you know how many children of Pastors, Alhajis, Doctors, Lawyers etc are cultists?

We will like to know how this punishment will actually be meted out.

This is simply preposterous and outrageous!

Then 98% of parents in Rivers State should be ready to go to Jail then!
Rivers where we dey?
Na dem HQ!
Na blood of Jesus dey guide us o!
The summary of the whole damn thing is that the law is unconstitutional.

It can't be applied in our court. Maybe, Sharia Court.

Politicians would say things that are lower then them.
What has being a cultist's parent got to do with his/her children's involment in cultism?

Depend on how the law is applied. If the parents are aware of the criminal activities of their children, and did not report them, they can be held criminally liable.
Re: Sanwo-Olu: Parents Of Children Convicted Of Cultism Will Be Punished by jimter44(m): 9:11am On May 28, 2021
Oga, there is no law in the country that says parents Should be punished for the offences committed by their children. The Bible expressedly abolished punishing parents for their children's crimes, except where they collude with their children to commit a crime.

Government that cannot take care of boko haram and unknown gun men. grin grin goverment do not care about cultists, the same cultists they recruit during campaigns?

Your parents are wealthy. Every body's parents are not wealthy, some parents cannot even feed their own children, some children never see their father for weeks. Some children go hungry for days. It wasn't because your parents were wealthy. You just weren't enticed like you said. There are so many wealthy kids in cults or gangs.

You don't know my parents. They are the best parents. I made the choice of becoming a gang member there was nothing my parents could have done to stop me.

Are you blaming my parents for not been wealthy? undecided

When you have your own kids we will see how you are gonna raise them.
Your father should hand you over to the police. It will save both him and the society a lot... Maybe after blending you in jail. The government may send you to rehab and then provide u a semi meaningful life...

Oga you are wrong. Parents are always punished for the actions of their children everywhere. If you children destroys someone else's property. You are required to pay for all damages. Yes a parents is not usually held liable for their children's criminal activities in most countries, but they are held liable in civil law. In the west if the government feels you cannot raise a child appropriately, the child would be taken away from you.

This is the way to go, because parenting is a serious business, since the child is under 18 and not liable to face punishment in law court, the parents are to suffer the consequences, that is normal
God go bless.

If not all these baby mamma children and marriage is a scam background will finish us.

Yea, you might think so.. If my father handed me to the police the first time, if gain freedom do you think i would be around my father after that? grin Do you know how many times i was handed to the police? How many times i was jailed? Do you know if my father even knew were i was? When you are in a gang you don't want your families to be associated with it.

Semi meaningful life? grin grin it sounds very easy doesn't it?

I disagree. Cultism is more of a parental and societal failure than a governmental failure. In my days cultism was restricted to higher institutions. It was an offshoot of fraternity. Now cultism has seeped into the secondary schools and the streets. In ikorodu here almost every youth whether in school or not is a member of one cult group or the other. And what's the aims and objectives of these cult gangs?
All these have their root in government failure.

Very primitive and highly draconian laws we see in Lagos State these days under this "Pontius Governor". Cultism in Lagos is now the new pandemic but how is this line of thinking even remotely practicable?? How do you purnish the parents of an adult child who for whatsoever reasons decided to be a cultist? Are the parents thee ones who initiated the child into cultism? Are the parents the opolo eyed politician who recruits them every elections circle for rigging, intimidation and violence? The other time his government was selling off people's cars for traffic violations, when he could easily have the offenders fines heavily to get money for the government while purnishing the offenders at the same time without using executive cover to steal their property.

I guess if it's acceptable for parents of cultists to be jailed for their wards activities, godfathers of corruption politicians can as well be jailed together with their proteges, since the dins of the "sons" can now easily be transferred to the "father's"...?
You typed and said my mind. God bless you.
In as much as the law is good, he should include agberos, thugs and awon eruku's parents too.
In as much as this would have been a good news but,
Statistics shows that 80% of parents of cultists trained their children well, but some children will definitely bring reproach, disappointment and embarrassment to their parents.

But, do those animals reasons like normal humans?

@the bolded, looking at it from that point of view, then that makes more sense.
Thanks for the more detailed analysis and clarification.
If it is about parents not reporting their children that are cultists, then they should face the music.
We are talking from the angle of parents not training their children in the right way, which sounds somehow to us.
But your post makes the news good music to our ears now.
Thanks!

Let us bring our statistics down to 55% cos of your sensible post.
Or you think 45% will be okay?
Let's negotiate Egbon Sege!
Even with this statistics, it is still wrong as it mere statement which can refuted easily. Who were the researchers who did this study? What were their population and sample of study? How were their data analyzed?. These are fact that should be tabled out before posting unverifiable statistics

Na blood of Jesus dey guide us o!
The societal problem we are facing today emanates from poor family background.
Not actually because they are poor but lack of proper care. Some parents are ready to give their ward 2 million Naira or above for one semester without knowing his real academic performance, how he lives and behave within the school environment. The pocket money will be used to chase girls and u know u can gallivant with girls in campus without bad boys protection!

You tried making a good point. But before a child turns a nuisance/terrorist to the society the father or mother should first hand him over to the police before they get them implicated.
I had someone who duped me of 150,000 naira. When I found out and threatened him of going to his village to arrest and destroy his widowed mother's little shop, he immediately transferred my money back to me.
There are some Children who leads double lifestyle....E.g the children in the university...Saint at home....Jagaban in School.... What will happen if the Parents doesn't know about their other personality.... kids these days are very smart.... you'll only see what they want you to see...

What about peer pressure....The parents shouldn't take the fall for the waywardness of a child when they don't even know that such children is living a totally different lifestyle from what' they're portraying at home....

I've been there....but not to the extent of being a terror to my Community...

I keep on saying this....Year one in the university is the time most kids lose home training regardless of how they were brought up at home..

So in a society where everybody decide to be a cultist do you think you will live to tell the tale. Even if you survive it. Your mother or sister shall fall victim to terror. Nobody has the monopoly of violence...
