The fact that SR fooled you with that bypassing 24 officers rubbish doesn't make their story true or relevant because the new COAS has more and better command and operational experience than all of them. You should have asked SR to show you their record.

One of the people SR mentioned was or is the NYSC commandant so explain to us why and how the commandant of NYSC is better than the new COAS with better operational commands including the Army's 1 Division, commander of a major military operation and battlefield experience against terrorists in the NE including foreign military operations.

Is the NYSC commander experience needed in the battle against terrorists? Is it a battlefield experience?

I really don't understand why this practice exists in Nigeria is this how it's done in other civilized countries? How can a country loose well trained and experienced military generals because of the appointment of one man it doesn't makes any sense to me?

In as much as I don't like this government, I don't see anything sectional about the appointment considering Federal Character is in play in selection.

If they check the images below of the list previous chief of army staff's they will understand..

They should remember that we have 6 Geopolitical Zones and the Federal Character Commission works with it

North-West,

North-East,

North-Central,

South-West,

South-South,

South-East

And the Nigerian Military is not only the Army, we have the Air Force and the Navy too which also have their equal positions to COAS too.

and not to forget, a Chief Of Defense Staff oversees them all.

The CDS is 34rc and late COAS from 35rc. 6 months difference as NDA wasn't degree awarding then. It became degree awarding from 36rc. 34rc and 35rc will clock 35 years of service this year. If Attahiru had not died, they would also have been like their predecessors; Olonisakin and co who stayed beyond 35 years of service. Normally, it is best for a service chief to serve his tenure within the 35 years of service.

The new COAS is 37rc and will clock 35 years of service in 2023, same year a new President would come in and change them. This allows for normal career progression for everyone. Also, unlike secondary school, once your junior is appointed as head in the military, you have to retire. Staying means obeying his every command and him having the authority to lock you up if needed. The promotion in rank finalises his authority over his mates who might be his senior in terms of army number. Any mate of his that is dissatisfied will also put in paper.

Basically decapitating an Army that's currently fighting serious wars in different fronts of extremely well trained senior Army officers, just because he wants to put a man who will help him rig the coming elections! This man is unbelievable..

Before he died, the last Chief of Army staff talked about reducing the qualifications needed to be recruited into the army because of low enrollment! He also called for retired soldiers to be ready to be called back into action! Essentially, what it means is that the army is running short on manpower and needs help...
