isan: Squad has already been picked, The home based would fill in her spot. A good time for Joy Bokiri to lay claim to a spot, she's also a Smart Central Midfielder but Ayinde will surely be missed... ACL is such a bad injury, till next season I just pray she gets fit before the AWCON cause one of the worstest injury to sustain in sport in ACL. 1 Like |

BascoVanVeli: Christy Ucheibe is naturally a Defensive Midfielder but could fill in too, And Rita Chikwelu is the one currently playing the DM for the Superfalcons while Ayinde goes Central and Box-to-Box.. 1 Like |

Two Foreign-Born Players Earn Late Nigeria Call-Ups For US Summer Series By Samuel Ahmadu Nigeria women’s head coach Randy Waldrum has handed maiden Nigeria call-ups to two foreign-born players ahead of the US Summer Series next week in Texas, SavidNews can exclusively report. The Super Falcons will compete with World Cup holders the US women’s team (USWNT) as well as Jamaica and Portugal in the four-team event set to take place between 10 and 16 June. However, on Tuesday, SavidNews had earlier exclusively reported that two players – all foreign-based – have withdrawn from the 25-player roster released by the Nigeria Football Federation in May. Affected is defender Patricia George, having suffered an injury in training with German side Sands FC recently. while the other is Eskilstuna United midfielder Halimatu Ayinde, who picked up a knee injury in action against Hackens recently. With the squad reduced to 23, Waldrum faces a possible late pull out as the NFF is racing against time to secure visas for the foreign-based players, hence the latest duo’s invitations. The American tactician has now turned to Swiss-born Nigerian defender Onyinyechi Zogg, who currently turns out for Swiss Women’s Super League outfit FC Zurich. Despite born and raised in Bern, Switzerland, the 1.72-metre tall 24-year-old right-back, who already propelled her side to Uefa Women’s Champions League qualification this season is still eligible to represent Nigeria through her parents. The other late call-up went to Finnish-born Nigerian striker Roosa Funmilayo Ariyo, who currently plays for Finnish Naisten Liiga side TiPS. Ariyo, 26-year-old, who has been in fine form, scoring eighth in eight games was born in Finland to a Nigerian father and Finnish mother and is eligible to play for the West African nation. With their late invitations confirmed, Zogg and Ariyo will join Nigeria’s camp in Houston on Monday after their league matches against Luzern on Saturday and JyPK on Sunday respectively. The Super Falcons will begin the invitational tournament against Jamaica at BBVA Stadium in Houston on 10 June, followed by a meeting with Portugal three days later at the same venue. Before traveling to Austin’s Q2 stadium to face four-time World and Olympics champions USA at the home of new Major League Soccer club, Austin FC, on 16 June. Nigeria will hope to intensify their preparations for October’s showdown with Ghana in the first round of the qualifying series for next year’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco 4 Likes

Leicester City Hand Nigerian-Born Defender Contract Extension Until 2023 Posted on June 5, 2021 Ashleigh Plumptre has signed a contract extension, tying her to Leicester City until 2023. Plumptre had initially agreed to a one-year deal with the Women’s Championship outfit in 2020 and helped them to the second division title plus a Women’s Super League promotion in May. The 23-year-old defender born in Leicester to a Nigerian father and British mother returned to Leicester, where she has been since the age of eight before securing her scholarship program which came to an end in the United States of America in January 2020. Following her memorable outing in the US, including USC’s National Championship triumph with LC Galaxy, she returned to her home-town club, rejoining the Centre of Excellence, and scored a goal in 19 league appearances in her side’s memorable campaign. Having excelled in her maiden outing for Jonathan Morgan’s side, she has been handed a new two-year contract and is pleased to extend her stay with the club. “This is my hometown Club and to have achieved what we have in my first full season of being here was amazing,” she told LCFC.com. “Being around the city that I grew up in and being around my family for at least another two years, being at a Club that has provided so much for all of us on the women’s side already. I can’t complain, there’s nothing else I could ask for really. “It’s nice because I look back on the pictures from when I was at the Centre of Excellence and I pretty much look the same, I’ve just got a foot taller! “It’s crazy to think it’s been 14 years; it’s gone so fast. I remember my time there like it was yesterday.” Having ensured their top-flight promotion, Leicester will aim to go all the way in the 2021/22 season, having retained the services of Plumptre, who is keen to represent Nigeria despite representing England at various youth levels.
