ednut1: The 1963 did not give absolute powers to the premier as you would have your readers believe. Despite being premier of the Western Region, Akintola's impeachment process was already going on smoothly and wouldn't have given birth to any supremacy tussle if Balewa had, as prime minister, exercised the lawful restraint not to dabble into the process for political capital. In essence what led to the First Republic crisis was not the constitution itself but Balewa's arrogation to himself the powers which that constitution didn't confer on him 2 Likes 1 Share |

He's right. Reviewing and amending the 1999 constitution is the right path and quicker. A lot has changed since the 1963 constitution was created. It would be like starting afresh, which would take a long time. |
