That’s weird. It might be 1 of 2 things: A) The seller declared the true value of the hair. If it’s expensive DHL will charge you import tax based on the items value. It’s annoying but they do it for luxury items. Or B) The sender didn’t send DDP or Delivered to your door, which means they told DHL that the recipient is responsible for any charges after it arrives the UK (always confirm your item to the UK is DDP for next time, even when shipping from the EU). That way you can get a refund if anything goes wrong.

If it’s not either of these 2 reasons then I don’t know, but it’s best to call them and find out. smiley

Thanks Mamatukwas and thanks Lexusgs430 ....

Please kindly need your little input,I’m coming to Birmingham with my family through student visa,

I’m the main applicant but I have a year old baby and I would love to know the cost of Nanny or monthly payment of crèche?,I really need to plan ahead ..thanks

I’m a digital marketer and I will be working remotely alongside the legal 20hours while my wife work full time (taking care course online already)

That is the issue right there, the more you earn through employment the more tax you pay.

Do you know why Asians are doing better than Africans? Cash in hand business, taxi driving, off license shops, take-way shops etc..they pay tax on how much they declare..

So how can an Asian doctor avoid paying too much tax without breaking the law?

Shipping Naija food to the UK is tricky. Regular garri, poundo, Egusi etc no issues. Other items like Fish/fish related items, meat and beans are considered contraband. Yam and Oil are they ‘that must not be named’ grin. Contraband items can be sent via a special DHL license we have but it’s not cheap.

If you’re in Scotland, depending on your location I can tell you where to get Naija food in Glasgow. Otherwise order from Wosiwosi. They dey try. If you insist on fresh fish from your village in bayelsa, then I’ve got you but be ready to pay wink

Dry fish is not contraband except if more than 20kg.

Commercially, Most carriers won’t carry even 1kg of it. You need a license to do so and very few people have it. In your personal luggage this might not apply (re:guidance)

However, (slides closer and whispers): You must be very careful. There are people close by with ‘teams’ watching our every move. And horror of all horrors their office seems to be 4 levels above M16. Even Scotland Yard is afraid of them (looks around furtively)….. If you’re not careful, they might come with badges and haul your ass in for attempting to smuggle in ‘dry fish’ (shudders). For them, the sin is not much different from bringing in cocaine through the borders. So please, watch your back, lock your doors, make sure you eat all your fish, don’t leave any traces. May heaven safe us (sprinkles holy water).

Good morning.

Oga HR don carry come again.
But he speaks truth, pikins na cost centres, so unless say una dey Owerri or any of the places wey UGM dey work overtime and you need to activate your Plan B fast, that option, if you have it, should be considered.

Also note that as a student you are not allowed to be self-employed, so the rules limit you tothat 20 hours. Na your madam wey fit work unlimited, so depending on how things turn out, get ready to add Professional Babysitting to your resume.

Best of luck.

No idea, i'm basically saying that they will always have side hustle that involves cash in hand, so taxman will not get a cut of it

Oga or madam you are part of the problem we talked about recently. "pull down syndrome ". That is why Nigerians cannot collectively rise and be great together. You only been in UK barely 5 mins you are here forming Olokpa of Nairaland.

Aunty Priti Patel quietly signed a deal with India and Britain to agrees to accept more students and talented young immigrants into Uk in exchange for increased deportations ..... imagine this nonsense. Why is India special, most people if they catch you here illegally they deport you straight. Why does Indian have to have this special agreement. You can be sure the first part of taking in thousands will happen and the later part will be radio silence. But its their quiet way of raising their people

Secondly they quietly added occupation chefs in visa categories so that once they graduate and no job. They can quietly package themselves with visa for 5 years as a chef in an Indian restaurant. At least after 5 years it ILR for them that way they get to stay here.

Left right they are quietly putting policies to favour them and their strength will become in their numbers. Sadiq Khan it going to be hard to unseat him even as he doing rubbish here.... because of numbers of voters .

These are few examples...instead what do we have here. Mamatukwas minding her lane, never posted anything illegal apart from making me salivate with her mention of fish, egusi but you are forming officer of Nairaland

Welldone and continue watching .....

Those days using limited company route , clever accounting on the Balance sheet and doing locum instead of permanent.... however IR35 has come to clamp some of that

My dear, you follow observe that sleight of hand? Give them a few years and Hindi will become an official language in London, while Nigerians continue to compete with ghosts and form themselves to death, then suddenly wake up one morning and realise they have no community to fall back upon.

If you can get one as a backup, travel with your wife and see things yourself.

You are likely to get a job that pays far more than what you are currently earning in Nigeria but it will not be in your current area of work.

You can use this opportunity to get UK work experience/certification to improve your profile.
How easy is it or what means can be used to elongate my stay legally

Your immigration status may be an issue because you be coming with 2 and the half year visa with no guarantee of extension or getting permanent residency, that will not help in your efforts to get a professional job.

Maybe I need to make myself clear. The original reply to mamatukwas post was “Me and my team dey watch you ooo” which was written playfully with no bad intentions. My aim is to pass the message that this forum doesn’t have a face as we don’t know who is reading and monitoring what we put on here.

I have said the same thing severally.
And that guy’s ‘crime’ was because he disagreed with the mod of this page.
ralphjeans post and link was very helpful. I applied and received a mail in the post 3 days ago, exempting me from paying Tv licence.
The Ralph guy offered sound legal advice. Yet he was banned because the moderator preferred door closing rather than simple legal means to get Tv licence exempt.
And that was enough for a ban.

Someone provided 100% legal panacea for Tv licence, he was banned. And yet we blame Buhari, Lai Mohamed and AGF Malami for banning Twitter in Nigeria.
