Governor Obiano Visits Legacy Projects, Charges Contractors On Timely Delivery

By Ejike Abana (ABS Government House Correspondent)

Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra state has assured of delivering critical infrastructure, especially the legacy projects before exiting office in 2022.

Governor Obiano was speaking when he embarked on inspection visit to the ongoing Anambra International Conference Center, ICC and Awka City Stadium.

The governor was accompanied by Chairmen of Traditional Rulers Council in Anambra Central, South and North.

The first point of call was the Awka City Stadium where work is still steadily ongoing, while Chairman of Anambra State Sports Development Commission, Mr Tony Oli, was on ground to recieve the governor.

Similarly, the governor visited the ICC where it was observed that the roofing sheet installation is one hundred percent completed.

Speaking at the Center, Governor Obiano who stated his commitment to his vision and mission of making Anambra viable, expressed satisfaction at the pace of work and determination by the contractors handling the ICC project.

He spurred them to make remarkable difference before his next inspection visit, saying that when completed, the center will majorly complement the passenger and Cargo Airport, as Anambea will be able to host huge international conferences with enormous economic benefits.

He equally expressed optimism that existence of the center will motivate ndi Anambra who are in the hospitality industry to explore more investment opportunities in the state, thereby growing the revenue profile and GDP of the state.

Conducting the governor and entourage round the facility, the Commissioner for Housing, Architect Michael Okonkwo, gave detailed explanations of different aspects of the project including the foyer, pre-function areas, main exit hall, banking hall, commercial kitchen hall among others.

The contractor of the project, Mr. Mark Tu explained that the ceiling hanger for the roof, acoustic ceiling, mounting of light cables, will commence soon, saying that the lift and escalator, are already on ground and will be installed soon.

Chairmen of the Traditional Rulers' Council in Anambra North, Central and South, Igwe Ben Emeka, Igwe A.C. Oragwam and Igwe Samuel Obika commended the governor for his commitment and focus, assuring of their continued prayer, even as they asked ndi Anambra to keep supporting the governor to deliver on his mandate

Don't waste your time on clowns. Awka is generally a beautiful organised city and the fastest developing city in all of the entire eastern region. No city in entire east has roads with covered drains except Awka and no city has 6-lanes inner city road in the region except Awka. Anambra leads generally.

AmericanQuarter:

Is that the only part of the city? What about this this too? Though I am advocate of more infrastructural advancement and developments across Anambra. Next administration will continue where Obiano stops to expand the infrastructures in the city and across the state.

Anambra international airport is the best and has the longest runway in Nigeria aside MMIA. Anambra international airport is the international gateway to the eastern Nigeria.

To commemorate his 2 years in office, the Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Professor Charles Esimone has partnered private investors to construct 5 hostel blocks in the university. Each of the blocks will contain over 500 rooms.

The move will ease accommodation challenges in the university.

The VC is doing great, he is also constructing university stadium before beautiful gate, the contractor is Akiota construction firm from Awka Etiti, he is the one that built Unizik Library and Onitsha mall, I know he will deliver standard stadium for Unizik.

Akiota is a reputable construction company, most physical projects in UNN are undertaken by them; name them, stadium, faculty blocks, administrative blocks, roads, and so many...

I love seeing them move their equipment around campus when I was in UNN, always wondered you own that company, was even thinking it's an appendage of UNN.

There was a report some months or a year back on the parlous state of the hostels at UNN, with specific mention of the FRANCO hostels. Anyone know if they've now been refurbished?

I've noticed Unizik and Odumegwu Ojukwu universities have an advantage over UNN in the sense that they don't lack high-networth Anambrans prepared to spend big bucks to support and fix up their infrastructure! UNN on the other hand, seems largely to have been left to the pitiable funding they get from Abuja! Maybe it's also a case of UNN not being able to manage and apply its internal revenue properly, because with the huge amount of students they have and all the fees charged, i don't see why those FRANCO hostels would be allowed to rot to the level we saw in the pics shown about a year or so ago! Also, all the wealthy Lions and Lionesses don't seem to be doing much for their alma-mater!

I don't know about the present state of Franco Hostels but what I know is that the new VC of UNN (also a super lion) is currently constructing some new male hostel structures behind the present Franco, it's a huge construction site when I passed there last year.

Also, not just UNIZIK and OJukwu varsities are the varsities with private investors investing in school's accomodations, UNN has witnessed and still witnessing rapid development of private hostels around the school. Even the church is not spared here, the Catholic Girls Hostel outside the school but close to Franco with their magnificent chaplaincy has been around.

The only problem with UNN is maintaining of her male hostels (note: female hostels are regularly maintained) and also concessioning of the dilapidated Zik Flats outside the school also close to Franco to private estate management to reconstruct, refurbish and lease out the facilities to students (preferrably to Post Graduate Student or pharmacy students) or make the facility exclusive for those that can afford. whenever I see those structures rotting away, I cring in annoyance.

Nigerian government started neglecting UNN after the civil war! Before the war UNN was the pride of Nigeria. The University facilitated great research and manufacturing of equipments and high tech gadgets used by Biafrans to fight the Nigerian government!
I guess post war the Nigerian government regretted establishing the university in the east. But our God is still on the throne!
