THE TRUE POSITION OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES ON TWITTER BAN.
The House of Representatives recognises that Twitter, like other social media networks, is an important tool for communication and commerce in Nigeria particularly amongst the younger generation who have used these networks for enterprise and innovation with great success. The House also recognises that as social media has been a tool for good, it can also be a tool for bad actors. As such, the government has a legitimate interest in ensuring that these platforms are not used to commit vile actions against individuals and the State.

The proper role of the legislature in circumstances like this is first to peel back the layers of the decision-making process to unravel the issues until we develop an understanding of the why and the how of executive decisions. Following that, the legislature must make sure that regulatory and enforcement actions by the government are in accordance with the laws of the land, that due process of law has been followed to the latter and that the outcomes of regulatory decisions do not result in adverse consequences for the country and all our people. Fidelity to our responsibilities in situations like this requires the legislature and legislators to as in the words of Rudyard Kipling, “keep your head when all about you are losing theirs”. We listen to the agitation of the people, but we also hear from the government so that from the abundance of information, we reach the level of awareness that allows us to discharge our role dispassionately.

It is in service of our obligations under the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and our moral duty to the Nigerian people, that the leadership of the House has decided to mandate the House Committees on Communication, Justice, Information and Culture, and National Security and Intelligence to immediately commence an investigation to determine:
a.  The circumstances of the decision by the Federal Government of Nigeria to ban the operations of Twitter in Nigeria; and
b. The legal authority for the ban on the operations of Twitter in Nigeria.

The Committees are additionally mandated to Invite the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed to brief the House of Representatives on the objectives, intent, and duration of the ban on the operations of Twitter in Nigeria, and to report to the House within ten (10) days. The report of the Committees will guide further action by the House of Representatives on this matter. Therefore, I urge the Committees to act with speed and sound judgment to address this issue that has animated our national conversations over the last few days.

COMMON TWITTER BAN YOU ARE CRYING
WHEN WAR STARTS...
When war starts, first of all, you won't have internet to post or comment.
You won't be able to withdraw your money from the Bank, or even buy and sell.
Shops, market, hospitals, transport, petrol stations, power companies, will all be closed.
You will soon be left in darkness with no food, light or even water.
People will loot, kill, destroy, rape, kidnap and there won't be law enforcement agents to be called upon. The few law enforcement agents will be protecting the politicians and important facilities.
You won't even know where your brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers and children are.
You will soon go hungry and you gradually die without even been hit by a bullet.
Every where will be on fire. All you will hear, will be guns, day in, day out.
It may last for days, weeks, months and even years.
War no be like wetin you dey watch for American movies, wey dey end after one hour oh.
We will all end up in the forest or stay cocooned in our homes.
The UN will do nothing than send you aids, and the powerful will hijack them.
Today, look at Libya, Sudan, Iraq, Syria, Palestine
Other countries will only be on the internet and be sympathising with us, but nah we go suffer am.
You want Biafra, Oduduwa, Niger-Delta Republic and Arewa Republic?
Tell the law makers from your states to move a motion for referendum in the national Assembly.
If we continue this Gun games, it will consume all of us, and we will loose everything, including lives.
The person that asked you to carry guns, why is he not leading from the front with his own gun?
MAY GOD CONTINUE TO PROTECT US ALL. MAY PEACE CONTINUE TO REIGN IN OUR COUNTRY!!!

Twitter made a statement in which they said they don't know President Buhari and which country he runs.

When you're blinded by hate and self imposed narrow mindedness, you will applaud someone who is clearly insulting you.
Most Nigerians who are sympathetic with Twitter today don't know how much of an insult this comment is to even them.
They see Buhari as the target here but there are two elements in this insult.
Twitter says they don't know President Buhari.
But they didn't stop there.
They also added that they don't know the country he is leading. In other words they don't know Nigeria.

Twitter is brazenly saying they don't know Africas most populous nation and the country with the highest concentration of black people in the world. Twitter is brazenly saying they don't know a country where over 11 billion dollars of their revenue comes from with over 40 million subscribers.

Some years ago Pastor Chris Oyakhilome chose to use twitter to communicate some prayer information to Christ Embassy members worldwide.
Within few weeks Pastor Chris broke the records of having the most amount of followers within such a short period.

In their arrogance, Twitter called Pastor Chris' twitter account to question and described the followership as bogus.

Simply put, Twitter believed that nobody from a place like Nigeria had enough clout to garner such followership within such a short time - a feat that no Hollywood star was able to achieve -.

Pastor Chris wasn't prepared for their drama, he pulled out of twitter and challenged his church tech people to design a platform that the church can use. That's what gave birth to Yookos.

Today Yookos is a formidable competitor with Twitter so much so that ex President Barack Obama acknowledged the giant strides made by the platform within such a short time after it was launched.

Eventually twitter confirmed Pastor Chris' account and "apologized" but it was too late.
Pastor Chris had moved his huge followership into Yookos.

Several years later Twitter is saying that they don't know the country that the same Pastor Chris comes from.
That's arrogance taken too far.

Any Nigerian who tolerates this insult is just a self hating sychophant.

Someone says you and your country don't matter and you're jubilating.
Is that not a serious sickness?

There greatest fear is a united southern Nigeria. with that there is no war in sight but a replica of Korea and sudan.

This is a joke right?

So really, we are all accepting now that it was not even Buhari who ordered the ban but Lai Mohammed, ordinary minister who was not elected but appointed.

And now those we elected are giving him 10 days to appear before the house. Is he appearing from heaven? What happens in those 10 days while he chooses whether to come or not? We wait it out with VPN still?

Whoever must be reading these in years to come must wonder how docile the Nigerian citizens are. They must be imagining how cowardly we must be to be ruled by factional authoritarians like a multiheaded stubborn goat and not raise any objections to all the anomalies we are witnessing.

I just keep wondering if this is how we shall sit down and wish away these evils in homo sapiens forms till 2023 which we are not even sure they will be willing to leave.

It's all fine o.
