Congratulations!!!!!

Please is there anyone who got his or her visa the 5th of 6th attempt. I need to talk to you to hear your experience.
Bigsecret:
As promised grin
Status: Approved
Embassy: Lagos Consulate
Window 5
VO: Good morning
Me: Good morning
VO: How was your night
Me: (In my mind, this VO nice o), fine and yours?
VO: Fine. Passport and i20 please
He kept typing for like 2 minutes. I was praying under my breathe
VO: I see you are going to Miami University for your Masters in SAHE
Me: Yes, Please
VO: Why Miami
Me: I chose Miami because the program is focused on Social Justice and Equity. I am interested in this topic as it will enable me provide the right support for students particularly underrepresented students like students from low income background. ( I was talking too fast)
VO: (looks up at me for the first time, all the while, he was typing) hold on. I am not rushing and you not. Looks like you are reading from a script.
Me: Should I continue?
VO: No, it’s just fine.
VO: How many schools did you apply to?
ME: 5
VO: name them
ME: NIU, UCONN, MIAMI, KSU, OSU
VO: How many admitted you?
ME: they all did
VO: why not go for the other schools?
ME: To be very honest, it was hard making the decision because all the schools gave me full funding. However, Miami’s program is focused on Social Justice and Equity, a topic I am interested in as it will enable provide support for students particularly underrepresented students when I come back to Nigeria. Also, I love the theory to practice approach that the program adopts. I got an assistantship that covers the total cost of attendance, the funding includes tuition waiver, meal plan, accommodation, phone bills and monthly stipends.
VO: that’s generous
Me: with a smile, yes it is. (I continued). In addition to this, it is also required of me to gain experience in 2 other functional areas of my choice. This will give me a better understanding of the field both in theory and practice which will aid the transfer of learning when I come back to Nigeria. Moreover, the graduate advisor….
VO: okay, that’s enough. How did you get this generous funding?
Me: I will say the strength of my application and my performance during the interview days. I had interview with the Graduate coordinator (mentioned her name) and the associate director of Reslife (mentioned her name too)
VO: So?
Me: I believed they were impressed with my performance and decided to give me based on merit.
VO: Do you have any experience in this field. What course did you study in UNDERG?
Me: English Language and Education
VO: oh, education. I will be giving you a chance. You will need your i20 at the POE.
ME: Thank you.

Hi Timi, please how long did it take you to prepare for the GRE? I'm considering giving it a trial, but I'm heavily engaged. I plan writing IELTS general as I'm targeting express entry and currently work as a scientific editor which is mentally tasking and time-consuming.
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 16 by Laworldz: 9:32pm On Jun 08, 2021
obviously that’s why I’m asking.
I’m trying to connect with someone who has experienced my current situation and scaled through.

Hi everyone, I'm new here.

I just graduated a university here in Nigeria, I should have graduated last year but covid/ASUU situation made them postpone the academic year. My degree is in Education

I applied for an undergraduate degree in Psychology/counseling in the U.S and have my interview coming up in about 3 weeks.

Does having a previous undergraduate reduce my chance?

I saw your thread from Study in Australia thread but i will give you few advice.

My friend told me that before Donald Trump left office, he had changed alot of student visas to the extent that it is almost impossible to get work visa after studies unless someone studied Space Engineering or Aeronautics. I am not sure about this but do your research.

Another thing is that, If you are still single, ofcourse, USA is not a bad idea since you can find a good girl while studying to settle down with after your studies.

Check Canada out also.
All the best.
I will need to ask you some questions about Aussie. Can I send you a pm?
Ikjosh04:
Good day all, I'm actually depressed cause I think the choices I've made for the past 1 year are not yielding the results they're meant to which ordinarily is beyond my control.

I'm a 2019 chemical engineering graduate and finished nysc Feb 2021.

I started my admission and visa application to study Msc Engineering Management in Australia during my nysc.

I've spent over $15k for my tution deposit and health insurance, visa granted and I was supposed to resume my Msc Feb 2021(few days after nysc) pop.

I planned everything this way so I won't be in this kind of situation I find myself presently.

Australia boarder has been closed for more than a year now, so I had to defer my admission to July intake but with all the news and happenings in Australia, that country is so indecisive and not looking to open her boarders any time.

Her health minister and ScottMo has been forecasting Feb 2022 is the best time to open Australia boarder and honestly, everything is just pissing me off about that country at the moment.

Please I'll like the Elder's in the house @fairheart and others to guide me.

I want to know if I can get full/partial funding to study Msc Engineering Management or Business Analytics in any USA university. I have a flair for professional business inclined courses and not academic research courses.

If it's possible, I'll like to know the GRE, PTE and any other exam pass mark score I need to get to enable me get the funding with list of universities that might be offering funding for the courses I listed above.

I want to put things in order and apply for my visa for the early next year intake.

Meanwhile, I'll defer my admission for July 2021 to Feb 2022 if the Australia boarder is still closed for international students and as soon as I get funding in any Usa university, I'll request for my tution fee back from my Australia uni though my Indian friends have been complaining Australia uni are refusing or delaying to refund.

Also, I'll like to know the best path way for international students to get residency and citizenship in the USA after completing a postgraduate program from your experience and knowledge.

N.b., I'll take time to go through the thread to learn from others.

It's fine. Let me begin by saying no one has the ultimate solution. Every advice is given out of experience, forethought or happenstance.

With A third class its really going to be difficult to obtain your required assumption. You might want to take this, why not try doing a Pgd program here in Nigeria which qualifies you for an automatic masters. Ace your masters with nothing but a Distinctions.

With this done! try applying for a PhD in the US. I can assure admissions will be chasing you like Bonnie chases Clyde. Note that all these can be achieved in the space of a year. Unilag runs their masters program in less than a year. Just make inquiries.

Number 2 option, check your CGPA using WES. Fortunately it can raise to about 2.5/4.0. if that works. Then you're eligible on to get admission in some low tier universities- but you may not be considered for funding.

I hope this answers.

Hello All,

I want to thank you guys here for such a nice job in guiding F-1 visa hopefuls. I stumbled on this thread while searching for helpful info during preparation for my F-1 visa interview and I must confess the hunts and advice i garnered here were very helpful particularly regarding the particular kind kf questions to expect and how to convincingly answer them.

My interview, on the 18th May, was successful and I want to share the transcript here to encourage someone.

Program: Political Science, PhD
CoA: 43k
Funding: Full Ride

VO: Good Morning, passport and 1-20 please.
Me: Good morning (handing him the docs)

VO: Why are you going to the States? *starts typing vigorously*
Me: I am going for my PhD in Political Science @ XYZ

VO: How many schools did you apply to? *still typing*
Me: Just this one

VO: Why just this? *stops typing*
Me: One, the quality of its faculty and especially the works of two memners whose profile intersect with mine, and two, the opportunity for career growth in terms paper publications and conference attendances the program provides.

VO: Are you married?
Me: Yes, with two kids

VO: Are they travelling with you?
Me: Not for now

VO: Will they join you any time in the future?
Me: Yes, My kids are pretty too young to be detached from their dad for so long.

VO: I will be approving your visa
Me: Thank you.

I was so happy I almost forgot my 1-20. The VO had to call me back to get it.

My advice: Pray as hard as you can, what God cannot do does not exist. In my case, GRE was waived, English Test was piad for by my Program and I got full funding.

God is still in the business of blessing those who trust in Him. Shalom

Congratulations. However, not sure why you have to hide name of the school. 2 years ago, I made a solo effort in searching and applying to schools for the same program you going for. All the schools I applied to didn’t offer any form of assistantship/scholarship. The closest I got was a waitlist (Kansas State University). The only school that offered me funding was the school (Texas Tech) a gentleman on this platform suggested. I eventually met him sometimes this year at Texas to personally thank him for the suggestions.

There is no big deal mentioning name of school hommie. America is very big and fit enough to accommodate all and sundry. You might eventually get to the so called department and make a detour in your major or possibly transfer. As I speak there are 3 Nigerians in my department and according to my prof. 3 more are expected to arrive this fall. MA/Phd Political science is “lucrative” and quite promising in the States. You might eventually like the drill that comes with the program or otherwise. Share information necessary for others to gain; transcripts are getting too cliche nowadays, the information like name of schools, funding etc is what that matters- not your conversation with the VO!!

Nonetheless, congratulations and wish you the best.

Hello everyone. I'd appreciate your insightful opinion. I'm considering MS Information Systems (IT Project Mgt concentration) for spring, I have made some applications but I just need to know if its possible.
Background story: I have a BS & MS in Tourism 2010 & 2013 respectively both from Naija & UK. I have been working in such capacity since then but I'm tired, I need something more challenging (job for the future & in another country) hence why I decided to change course to IT as against going for tourism PhD. Do you think going ahead with this change (second masters) would sit well with the VO when the time comes. I have done my WES official evaluation of both degrees 3.67 & 3.81/4.00. Also, both my kids are US citizens, bills paid at both times.

That's incorrect, I asked a consular this question during an Education USA student visa orientation, and she said it's not true. The reason why people don't get it is that they can't defend their choice, why did you choose a community college? There are schools here better than community colleges, so why did you decide to attend a community college.
A lot of people are lazy to do their homework that's why they get denied, and people fear what they don't know. Check Education USA Lagos Facebook page, they've been talking about community colleges lately, if it was a red flag they wouldn't.

PS: during your interview don't mention you'll be transferring.

I was at the embassy. This girl going to a community college got her visa approved. The crazy thing is that her sponsor is her uncle that resides in USA. You need to hear the way this girl defended her choice. Even I was impressed and shocked that her visa to a community college was approved.

Good morning NL family.

I feel the need to say this here.

First is, this abroad journey, do not let anyone discourage you grin. I remember reaching out to someone earlier in 2017 and the person practically wrote me off. In his words, ‘If it’s education you want to study, you can never get funding.’ Although, I knew I could also pursue a career with my other degree, English ( I mean I could decide if to do MSC in English or Education), but I wouldn’t throw my passion in the air because I am looking for full funding. I got discouraged and gave up the idea.

Fast forward to 2019, I took Unilag exam on that faithful day, July 24,2019. This was the deal breaker for me, I knew instantly that I was done with Nigeria’s Education System. Tbh, the system irritated me at that time. I remember getting home that day and instead of me to sleep, I started researching.

My research took me days and months of sleepless nights. I remember checking through schools even at my work place. Did those research yield a positive result? Ofcourse they did. I got full ride in like 5 schools with no deficit. I could only beat myself up as to why I didn’t try research myself earlier. My point is, don’t be lazy, do your research, don’t let anyone discourage you (of course I listened to few people then, but I was quick to filter what everyone said to me), you will be surprised how much you can do yourself when you spend time researching.

I hope this helps someone, thank you!
