Visa Approved!
Lagos
9th June 2021
COA $39,274
Funding: Nil

Thank you to everyone that constantly engage with this thread. I’ve learnt so much by reading people’s transcripts and from all the information shared. This is my own little contribution.

Interview scheduled for 8:45am, done probably at 9:50am

VO: please pass your passport and I20
Me: Good morning. Then I go ahead to pass the requested documents.

VO: Good morning. What school are you going to?

Me: I’ll be going to TAMU for my Masters in public Health with my major in Epidemiology.

VO: What will this course do for you?

Me: I’ve worked as a doctor for 5 years and I’ve seen that as a clinician you can only help people on a one-on-one basis. With my public health degree, I’ll be able to affect the populace on a larger scale. I also found out from my experience working during the pandemic that Nigeria has poor data computing and analyzing skills and my degree in epidemiology will equip me with epidemiological skills to...

VO: Okay that’s fine. How long is your program? Is it one year, two years?

Me: The program is for two years with a one year optional practical training. (My i20 has a 3yr validity period on it)

VO: Who will be funding this trip?

Me: My husband

VO: What does he do?

Me: He works in Bleep as Bleep

VO: Have you been to the US before?

Me: Yes. In 2017 and 2018

VO: So both your kids are US citizens?

Me: Yes. But there’s three of them actually.

VO: And will you be traveling with your family? Husband and the kids?

Me: My husband will not be going with me because of his work obviously but my children will join me at some point. They’re too young to be separated from me for the entire length of my study. I plan to go alone now then they’ll join me later.

VO: That’s okay. I will be approving your visa. Will hold onto your passport. Take your i20. You’ll need it at the port of entry and this slip will show how to retrieve your passport. He hands me the white slip as my heart bursts in gratitude to God.

Fam, Not a single document was checked and I went there armed with all my delivery details, zero balance, bank statements, certificates, etc

I want to appreciate Chibertha. I remember reaching out to her when I saw she had a similar situation as me and she gave me a very vital tip that helped me.

Finally, I’ll like to say that I’m not sure that enough emphasis is placed on HOW you fill your form. I think that a huge percentage of the decision to approve or refuse the visa has already been made by what your form and profile says. Don’t outsource it to anyone. Do it yourself. No one knows you better than you and when you’re not sure, ask questions and get it right on the form.

After all is said and done, the Grace of God is the most important factor. That day, as we stood on the queue hearing everyone get their interview done, the black VO (there were three of them that day and the other two were Caucasian) did not give anyone no matter what they said. I remember my heart beating so fast. So many refusals that day. I’m just thankful to God!!!

N.B Apologies for the lengthy post.

Wow, fantastic job well-done. I really like your Interview. It should you are really prepared for it.

Congrats once more, I will like to seen some advice from you because we something similar.

I plan to study study management information system at Bowie State University, Admission and I-20 secured.

I own IT firm that service telecoms and banks while my wife work with a National Oil Agency in Nigeria.

I plan to go with my family, my child is 7-8 months old and my marriage is less than a year. I think is enough reason to go with them.

My wife will be on a year Sabatical leave to go with me.

Please advice !!!

What is so wrong with sharing the name of school you’re accepted into after getting your visa approved? I don’t know if it’s a Nigerian mentality but it’s entirely icky. I remember going through Nairaland and seeing a post by someone here saying that she doesn’t understand why so many Nigerians will apply to one school. Just imagine that thought. I agree that there may be “lazy” people that will reach out to you for assistance on application or whatnot but you can choose to help or tell them to do their research. Isn’t this platform made to assist one another? One person’s light doesn’t stop your own light from shining.

Sure and you also choose who you wish to give your time. Actually their is no school to hide because they are all just one search away on Google.

Your answer to how will this program help you needs to be rephrased just in case of another time. That answer sounded like you had plans of not returning to your home country.
First, you bad-mouthed your home country, said it lacks adequate automobile professionals, yes, we may understand that but the VO won't see it that way (he/she would see it like an escape plan from your country), then when you said you can render efficient services unlike them, you should have stated the location you plan on practicing which should be Nigeria.

Also, if this sponsor of yours is not related to you in anyway, why is he/she sponsoring you, have you thought of an answer to that?

I've heard of people of your age getting their study visa and I hope you get to experience that too.

Good day everyone
My visa was denied yesterday
Lagos office

V.o good morning and pass me your 1-20 and passport

Me- good morning and passed it on

V.o- so what are you studying and and school

Me- I will be studying automobile automotive mechanics at salt lake community college

V.o- how will this program help you

Me- Always had passion for repairs and maintenance , so getting quality education at this college would enquip me with the right knowledge to be a top automobile expert since my location in nigeria lack adequate professionals .. I can render efficient services unlike the roadside mechanics

V.o I will not be granting you and passed me the blue paper

Note- the blue paper says lack of home ties , am 34 going for my first degree , I don't have a kid yet , my sponsor is American and not family

Advice needed on reapplying for a new interview .. can I say I have a kid in the next 1-20 form I fill to get better home ties .. is it possible
Should I go to abuja next?

Please guys, I need help. I renewed my passport since 23 April this year. Till now, the passport is not ready. I was at Ikoyi office in Lagos today. Still nothing. They were calling names instead of checking with the enrollment number - which I find repugnant. Long story short, I waited till they called all the surnames starting with "OL" still no show.

My school resumes first week in Aug and I haven't still booked appointment for Visa. Please what can I do to get the passport out next week?

There's booklets now. If yours haven't been done that means the person you paid to is not serious with his/her work. Probably he/she does not have higher contact rank officer to work with. Keep disturbing him or her.
It was passport that delayed my visa application date now. Thankfully I collected mine this Monday at Ikoyi and paid for visa application. Currently looking for date now. Keep disturbing that person o.

He ought to start by defending what he has been doing since after high school and then how that course will help him more when he got to Nigeria because he has experience already so all he needs more to quality education to make him more successful in his career. Finish

Tbh your answer was vague, you should have said something like, I'll be returning for my professional exam, after that I'll be picking up a nursing job at Bleep hospital.

Applying to a community college no be beans, it comes with more scrutiny, you should give reasonable answers, and don't talk too much next time.

With an associate degree in nursing, the highest you can do is work as a registered Nurse, so why did you say you'll establish a home for the elderly.

You shot yourself in the leg, to be frank with you, na una they reduce the chances of people going to a community college. about 50% of students going to the US from Nigeria to play sport start from Highschool or community college. If you know you can't defend yourself or give reasonable answers don't apply to a community college.

Long Post

Over the past weeks, I have been more than delighted seeing a 100% visa approvals from all those that I was privileged to have been engaged with in their F1 Visa mock exercise albeit some did not come here to share their transcripts. It was fascinating to have spent those times with you. Congratulations guys! More wins await you all.

In addition, I personally derived this somewhat, naturally induced self-confidence and the can-do-spirit with the news of your successes, that despite my 2 previous refusals at the Lagos Consulate, I knew I had what it takes to change the narrative at my third consecutive appointment in Lagos with the Almighty by my side.

NOTE: I am not God that gives visa approvals neither am I a professional VO that has worked at the embassy before. I only try to directly impact your preparation positively if I happen to have the chance to prepare with you.

US VISA APPROVED.
3rd Consecutive Attempt all in Lagos.
Venue: Lagos Consulate, VI
Date: 7th June, 2021.
Time: 8:00am
Interviewed: 10:30am
Window: 5
Interview Time: Less than 1minute.
Attire: Well Starched Guinea Native with gator lol.

Full Transcript, gist and maybe story Loading.....This hustle started in 2018 oh...

Having arrived at the embassy at exactly 6:55am, I immediately joined the queue that was moving into the screening hall. After the checks, we waited in this hall for about 2hrs before entering the main interview hall were biometrics and finger capturing were done at around 8:25am. Two VO's on duty, a Black American lady in window 2 and a White American Man in window 5. The white man was dishing out pink paper with little remorse. I quickly observed that I was interviewed by him in December 2019, my second refusal. Partially, I started blaming myself for not going to Abuja while still in the queue. My wish was to be interviewed by the Black Lady which didn't come true. A vast majority of those unfunded didn't get approval in his window, window 5. You hardly spend 2mins in his window. The moment he sees you're funded and heading for probably a research focused program, he'd approve your visa. Most often than not, he doesn't ask beyond the same 3 questions if you have been fully funded. The other Lady would delay and eventually refuse an application. Generally, they were far more refusals than otherwise.

The Full Transcript!

VO: Good morning, pass me I-20 and passport.

Me: Good morning sir. This is it. (He immediately glanced on the financial section of my I-20 and started typing)

VO: what is your study plan and where are you going?

Me: I am going to study for my Masters program in Electrical Engineering at Colorado State University. I will be focusing on my research area in Radar Communications Systems and Networks. I will be taking a minimum of 9 credits of Thesis and 21 credits of regular course work spread within 4 semesters in 2years. I will be wrapping up my studies with a final oral examination. My courses are Satellite Communications, Information Theory, Digital Signal Pro... ( VO: Don't tell me about your courses, I don't need it).

VO: What is your plan after study?

Me: I will return home to work as a researcher with NigComSat or the Nigerian Communications Commission, where I hope to be involved the collaboration between NCC and SpaceX in the deployment of starlink satellite Internet services, a project that is likely to commence in 2023 and would end in 2027. In the long term, I would take up a lecturing role in my alma mater, this degree is a step towards achieving that, as well as setting up my own research institute here in Nigeria.

VO: I'll be approving your visa and brings out the white paper.... I said thank you with a huge smile/laughter on my face but covered with facemask. I heard other stuffs but could not comprehend... My body was already in motion. I think the long queue behind me reacted and cheered to my reaction... My sign of relief was more than glaring...

PS: My delivery was not smooth even though as I was 100% confident. The fact that I had cough, and was stressed (didn't sleep all through), tired, hungry as well as my poor history there could have been the reasons.

After 3 experiences in the same embassy, I would advise you to use the Abuja Embassy if you do not have any form of Funding or if you've been refused once in Lagos. It helps psychologically. The drilling in Lagos is Massive and I feel you have a slightly better chance in Abuja. I think Lagos has more applicants than Abuja, if this is correct, then it makes sense to use the latter. However, you can do it anywhere just like I did.

Big thank you to Horlahsunbo225, best plug for mock.

Schrodinger1:

Me: I will return home to work as a researcher with NigComSat or the Nigerian Communications Commission, were I hope to be involved the collaboration between NCC and SpaceX in the deployment of starlink satellite Internet services, a project that is likely to commence in 2023 and would end in 2027.

In all you do, Do Not Quit This Hustle. Listen to Burna Boy's song "Level Up" in the Twice as Tall Album if you feel like quitting.
