I try to come out early this days. (6:30 - 7:30am)

Once it's 3pm, I can only take trips to surulere or Yaba and go home.

If I no see reach 4pm (only when I'm on the mainland) I'm blowing home empty.

I was at MM int'l 3pm today. Map was showing me 45mins to go from int'l Airport to local Airport.
32mins from int'l Airport to Ajao estate, I just enter express, blow down to Cele and connect home.

It’s raining and there is no surge in Lekki phase 1 , I’d rather stay put than drive through those Lekki lagoons for stipends.
Meanwhile make I drop this gist here

Yesterday I started the hustle (I started very late though) with a resolution that no matter how tempting an order to mainland is I wouldn’t take it, in the process and amidst other blacklisted destinations my cancellation rate shoot up to 65%. Then I said to myself I have to stop canceling orders now

Few minutes later a request came in, not far from where I parked. Destination Lekki phase1, pick up Cmart admiralty way.

Just before heading to pick up, I called rider I’m outside already (don’t want her delaying me for long for a ride of #500) she said she’ll join me in a minute. Drove down to pick up, still no sign of rider. 5 minutes later I called again,
Rider: I’m checking out now I’ll be with you shortly (I was already fuming but I been no wan spoil my gentleman, so I kept it cool)

10 minutes later I called again
Rider: I don’t know why this guy is this slow, but I’m next on the queue, will be out soon
5 minutes later still no sign of rider

A thought of zooming off in anger crossed my mind, but then I thought would she really understand the gravity of what she did if I zoomed off? So I made sure my doors was on lock and waited till this daughter of eve came out

Some minutes later, Saw her through my rare mirror checking out my plate for confirmation, then she proceeded to open the back door but oops! It’s locked
Came a little forward to the passenger side window to knock, I looked at her with a smiling face and wind down a bit. These were my exact words to her
‘’Oh! You’re finally out (she said sorry bla bla bla....please your door is locked) you see that wait wey you been no wan wait, you go wait am. You wasted my time but it’s fine (she said but I’ve apologized now) It will just be nice to give you a doze of your own medicine’’
Put my gear in reverse and screed off ( saw her standing with her shopping bags, looking at the car in awe through my side mirror)

U did well, bt be careful next time because some riders way get craze go report driver requested offline

From the way you narrated the story,
1. She was also delayed, probably network ish as she was trying to pay or something
2. She apologized

My opinion.. You should have picked her, it's those ones that always feel like it's their right to keep you waiting that deserve this kind of treatment.

Peace cool

I disagree. She wasn't ready for the trip. Some riders deliberately do that. You should be ready before ordering for a ride. Moreover, she won't batt an eyelid by canceling if driver does not arrive on time.

Believe me, next time, she will b prompt with her timing.

Can't really tell much about today's traffic, except for my last trip vi to berger spend like 3 hrs and I took the trip for 4500. Both of us have been dragging the price from 3200 for like 1 hr. I don't know why riders do that, they will b on one particular price for minutes/hr.

Sure that's the ideal thing to do, and most times these riders calculate when they will be ready and calculate the time it will take driver to arrive so they do their plus and minus, this particular case looks like a calculation gone wrong. More emphasis on her conduct, she apologized which means she knew she was wrong, what else would you have her do?

I don’t agree with this bro. I’ve seen quite a number of Uber diaries on you tube and most of the times the rider is shown standing by the road side waiting at pick up, I think that is how the system was designed to be. Although some of we drivers also need to do more, by been honest and more precise with how soon we can arrive at pick up, so we don’t keep our riders waiting (a lot of drivers are found wanting in this)

May all the gods bless you for this. If most drivers treat their nonsense this way, by now they won't still be making trip requests until when they are truly ready.

No. I disagree. Nothing stop her from booking when she is sure of being ready for the trip. Most Naija riders especially females are fond of making a request when they are not ready. They need to be treated this way.

Request only when u r ready, it's as simple as that, cos u never know, I might just be outside ur plaza. U keep me waiting, and u r stalling my income. That's not fair. Ontop N500 trip.
davit, let me tell you why some people order ahead. Sometimes it can take up to 20-30 minutes for a driver to arrive and you have no idea before you book what it will be.

E.g. in the US it usually takes 2-7 minutes to get a ride so I usually book about 5 minutes before I think I'll be ready. When I went to Italy, I did the same and had to wait almost 40 minutes past midnight for a ride!! From then, the whole trip I would order 15-30 minutes before I was ready. I suspect that is what is happening. Some people (especially ladies) are anticipating waiting a long time in an undesirable place and taking measures to avoid that.

Exactly what I want to say when I'm up... we should cut riders some slack, 10 mins wait is not bad. The only difference here for me is the wait on Indriver e.g early morning trip from mainland to island or close hour trip where a rider books a ride from 4:35 cos he or she knows by 5pm everywhere will be red and now the driver gets there 3 mins after booking. Meaning driver have to wait till 5 and end up doing trip that's is supposed to be 1 hr for 2 hrs, that's not fair.

having said this, I feel drivers should take that waiting time of a thing easy and understand from the view of the riders if it's not intentional, If riders can wait for 10, 15min's for drivers to arrive, so what's the big deal if a driver is found at the other end? The only thing I tell riders and it's because of how volatile indriver can be, is to tell them the ET to destination and if the changes doesn't commiserate with the price due to delay from them, then I'm sorry, I'll have to abort mission.

In my own opinion, if a driver is going to be kept waiting for more than 5mins, he should be told about it. But we know that would never happen. What you'll hear is, "I'll be right down". And then when you call after 5mins, you'll hear, "Oh, are you here already? Don't worry you'll see me now."

For me, the only time I'll wait for more than 5mins is if;
i. It's a long trip.
ii. It's a 'good destination' (Good road network + No traffic).
iii. It's a surge trip (preferably 1.9 wink )
iv. Everywhere is dry (Not more than 10mins on this one).

Bottom line is, when requesting a ride you can actually see the number of drivers in your vicinity. If there are lots of drivers in your area, and you are not ready, don't request, as a driver may just be at your gate already.

Indriver is a crazy app, can b use for different purpose and a ride is never actual on Indriver. Some has taken 2k from island to ikeja and won't stop trying from the moment they are set to enter the bathroom, till they are ready, that's when they will accept a reasonable price. Some book ahead before traffic, cos they know the price will shot up and keep you waiting till when they are ready.

We get sense for this country grin nah our forefather's sins just they disturb us
