Reminiscing, after a couple of years, i finally understand the grievances of millions of the unemployed. i mean one can literally feel the sting as soon as you are thrusted into the cold waters of reality after service.

Some people advocated saving allowee for the rainy days. Without mincing words, having obligations and being the sole facilitator of your well-being comes at a price of never having the privilege of having your money to yourself.

So then, what do you do? you graduated with the right honors and somewhat deemed intelligent but the course you seem to be charting has no longitude & latitude.

It is easy to be poetic about joblessness and talk about the mess we are in with the present Nigeria while some wallow in depression, constantly doubting their ability.

Prices have doubled, Food is for the rich.

it is as bad as it gets, is your faith waning or you remain staunch in your faith of a bright future? How do you pay bills?

How do you cope with the depression and seeing friends well on their way to that which you covet yourself?

Do you feel things or its just me, myself and my thoughts.

share your thoughts...........

It's been hell, bills here and there keeps on piling up even daily feeding is getting as tough as quantum physics. One has to do a lot of calculation just to be able to spend the little cash available. Only God knows what tomorrow holds.

30K? I currently earn 16k as a teacher in a private school with my BTech degree in Physics/Electronics. Might I add that I am the first born of the family and currently solely responsible for the school fees of three siblings, and to a large extent, their feeding too? The depression alone no be here. I had such high hopes of securing a job after service. May God help us in this country.

Nowadays, you can't be relying on certain collar jobs; you need jobs involving your skills. Some barbers earn and spend more than that 16k a week. You need works where you're seeing the money. Salary work nowadays just seems like a waste of time, honesty! It's people with skilled jobs that are doing well now, because they're seeing the money and can spend without waiting for salary at the end of the month. I know some people that dropped out of schools to pursue skills and now they're doing better than some graduates. Even if you're working at some collar jobs, you should have Plan B, C and even D.

To think this government thinks it has made any progress is really appalling.

Most have resorted to stealing and other crimes. Nothing justifies stealing and harming people to make ends meet.

But to put food on the table, Men are willing to do anything. It's survival instinct kicking in.

Make God help everyone shouldering burdens too heavy for them.

You are right with your submission. I have since discovered this, but that would mean leaving this current job and starting all over again. How then am I going to be able to handle these other responsibilities? My siblings had already lost some years at home just so my parents can focus on my education to see me graduate. It will be selfish to forsake them now.
Add to the fact that it will require some sort of financial investment as well as time to learn a worthwhile skill- both of which are not in my possession right now.
The biggest mistake any young man can make right now is going to university without first getting a skill. Or at the very least, you find a way to combine both. Unless of course you have been assured of a job upon graduation.
PS: A Federal College of Education, located just opposite my address did a recruitment which coincided with the end of my youth service. Lucky me, right? Well, I went there and a senior lecturer had this to say: "The school is desperately in need of someone with your qualification, but unless you know someone that can push your matter forward. Best of luck to you"

As a 68 year old man, I was retired from work; since the age of retirement is 65. I did everything to keep my job including falsifying my age and dressing younger by sagging my trousers but still yet, I was retired. My wives, girlfriends, side chicks and multiple kids kept complaining and even advised me to do yahoo. I was thinking of becoming a gigolo, but i'm old and my waist is already stiff. It's no longer as flexible as lalasticlala's own. I wonder if Flexherbal has some enhancements for me to take.
But, here are some things I did: Investments(speak to a trusted individual about this). I also learned some skills to bring in some survival income, because Nigeria is all about survival now. I eat MOSTYLY at home, rather than always buying take outs, I could just get the foodstuff and cook at home at a cheaper rate.
I reduced my electricity consumption, by also getting other means of light including embracing natural light(s). I made a budget and I stuck to it. I do not take loans, and if I get into debts, I start making plans immediately to greatly reduce them or pay them off. I watch my spending habits i.e I buy what I NEED, not just what I WANT. I'm considerate/open to Substitute commodities. I'm considerate of my home expenses e.g. why do I have to use the generator for hours when all I use it to power is the Fans and bulbs? I could just go Natural. I sell off things I don't need.If you drink or smoke, then you've got to GREATLY reduce or even STOP, cause they're money consuming. That's equivalent to smoking and drinking your money away. I find ways to reduce my bills. I also consider my transportation costs and the amount I spend to entertain myself. I enjoy my self once a while though.

Good day, Sir.

I enjoyed reading this piece.
I have also taken note of some things that will also help me reduce costs.

You don't have to leave your current job to start over; your current job is your means of survival. You have to dedicate some hours of your time to learn new skills/things. I can't even remember the last time I slept for
3-4 hours.
Unless of course you have been assured of a job upon graduation
NEVER PUT YOUR HOPE ON HUMANS. It has led to tears...VERY premium tears.
"The school is desperately in need of someone with your qualification, but unless you know someone that can push your matter forward. Best of luck to you"
That's just the sad situation we've found ourselves in this country. It's one of the reasons we're not progressing 'cause unqualified people are handling several positions. But, you just need to widen out. Go to certain places and meet people. I've seen people that got connections that led to jobs when they were discussing in public. A barber I knew years ago was sponsored abroad for his football career while discussing at the barbing salon. He was barbing my agbalumo head without realizing the next person was a coach. You just have to always make yourself available. Let people be aware of your qualifications and abilities.Years ago, I was with an older family friend at a shell company, so a man started having issues with a computer, he didn't know what to do and getting someone to fix it was a problem. I volunteered to fix it(to the surprise of everyone), and I was able to solve the issue because I've spent hours operating, spoiling and repairing the various computers we had at home. The man immediately offered me a job and I started working the next day till I went to the University. You just have to greatly expand your knowledge and skills acquisition 'cause you never know when you'll be needed.Move with friends that impact positive values to your life. Teach each other things. I taught a friend how to repair computer hardwares and he taught me how to barb. I apply my skills in my day to day life. I'll be turning 68 soon, hope you'll wish me long life and prosperity?

You are an inspiration, sir. I pray God grants you all of your wishes.
I handle computers excellently well (both operations and diagnostics) and it has been a saving grace more times than I can count. Currently working on expanding my skills soon probably into website development.

The school ended up not being able to recruit anyone for my department (Physics department), while recruiting more than needed for some departments (all those SOS, BUD e.t.c). I later heard that for months, some of the recruited assistant lecturers refused to show up for lectures. They obviously got the lecturing job through connection and you can't give what you don't have.

If you don't have a job I hope you have a great family that helps you financially, if you don't have a great family I hope you have great friends that are benevolent.

Above all I hope you have God.

One day I will share my testimony on Nairaland.

Cuz to survive without a Job in Nigeria is crazy I must confess

Been without a job since March. Life has been really tough. My wife is 7months pregnant. Thought about having an abortion for her at 5months but was scared of loosing her. She's not the fit type, so I have to spend more time with her at home.
Life without a job in Nigeria is worse than hell fire
