It is the second fracas in two months in the community over alleged Fulani invasion. The first incident happened when the house and hotel of Ramon, an alleged Fulani kidnap kingpin, were destroyed following allegations of criminality against him by the Odo-Owa community. DAILY POST gathered that the youths accused the Fulani herdsmen of being involved in kidnappings in the community. In the process, they allegedly destroyed houses belonging to Fulani herdsmen during the fracas which occurred at about 2000hours, Thursday night. The action of the angry youths was to enforce the ultimatum issued to Fulani herdsmen to vacate their community, which expired on Thursday. DAILY POST further gathered that police operatives of Odo Owa police station who attempted to stop the unlawful action of the youths were attacked and their station destroyed. However, in a response to a text message on the development sent to the spokesman of the state police command, Mr Okasanmi Ajayi said ” The Odo-Owa police station was not attacked by the youths as alleged. “The youths became agitated as a result of some suspects arrested in connection with a case under investigation,” he added. Nigeria’s defense expenditure to reach US$3.8bn in 2026 driven by militant groups and rising piracy incidents, says GlobalData As one of the continent’s military powerhouses, Nigeria is seeking to strengthen and upgrade the capabilities of its armed forces between 2022 and 2026. Nigeria’s defense budget is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10.33% throughout the forecast period to reach a peak of US$3.8bn in 2026. Growth will be driven by continued insurgent attacks, cybercrime, and rising incidents of piracy, according to GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company. According to GlobalData’s report, ‘Nigeria Defense Market – Attractiveness, Competitive Landscape, and Forecasts to 2026’, Nigeria has historically prioritized its defense budget in order to combat both regional and domestic threats, reaching a high of US$2.5bn in 2020. However, the country’s 2021 defense budget witnessed a year-over-year (Y-o-Y) growth rate of -0.9% as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, stabilizing at US$2.5bn for the current year as the country deals with the economic consequences of the pandemic amid a wider global recession. Victoria Bosomworth, Associate Aerospace and Defense Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “This substantial increase in defense expenditure, rising from 0.5% as a percentage of Nigeria’s GDP in 2021 to 0.7% of overall GDP spending in 2026, will likely be driven by the country’s attempts at combatting a number of growing threats in the region, such as the continued insurgent attacks by groups, for example, Boko Haram, Ansaru and ISWAP. This comes at a time where infighting between factions of these various groups has intensified, resulting in the alleged death of Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, after an attack by ISWAP. Clashes are thus expected to increase in the coming months due to the potential instability caused by the power vacuum created by Shekau’s death.” Other threats driving defense expenditure during the forecast period include oil smuggling in the Niger Delta, increasing cybercrime and rising incidents of piracy in the Gulf of Guinea. Piracy, in particular, constitutes one of the largest threats, with the Gulf of Guinea, reported as one of the primary piracy locations in 2021. As an important maritime trade route off the Nigerian coast, the Nigerian Government has invested heavily in ‘Project Deep Blue’ through the funding of a number of important naval procurements in order to reduce maritime insecurity in Nigeria’s territorial waters and Economic Exclusion Zone.” Bosomworth adds: “In order to combat these threats, Nigeria has subsequently focused on modernizing and strengthening its capabilities through a number of key procurements, such as the acquisition of Mi-35M helicopters, A-29 Super Tucanos, JF-17 Multirole aircraft, multiple naval vessels and several armoured vehicles. The acquisition budget for Nigeria in 2021 is set at US$0.3bn, comprising a share of 13.2%, which is expected to rise to a high of US$0.6bn by 2026 and accounting for 15.5%.” SOURCE: https://brandspurng.com/2021/06/18/nigerias-defense-expenditure-38-2026/

I've said it before and I've used New York as an example. In Nigeria i think our security agencies simply stop chasing suspects once they turn a corner and no longer have eyes on them lol. In New York though, they will seal off the entire neighborhood until those criminals are found, because they know if they get away, they will commit crime again. It's weird how suspects keep escaping with gunshot wounds over and over Valkrie: |

More than 100 villagers of Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi state have been gruesomely murdered by marauding bandits. The incident happened on Thursday 3rd June 2021 around 4pm, but was not publicly known due to the remoteness of the settlements. On Saturday, Nafiu Abubakar, spokesperson of the Kebbi Police Command, confirmed the incident to reporters claiming 66 people lost their lives during the attacks, before later upgrading the figure to 88. Some locals and residents of the affected communities said such attacks had been recurrent but the recent one was more tragic. One of the residents said, “They came around 4pm on Thursday in their hundreds with AK47 riffles and started shooting sporadically at the people. We’ve been under constant attacks in Zuruland; we chose to tread the path of peace. We’ve cried and wailed to the high heavens with no hope. We’ve counted more than 100 people killed by bandits in a day. This is one too far.” The Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) gathered from locals that hundreds of cattle were rustled by the armed group who raided the communities killing armless villagers indiscriminately. FIJ also understands not less than 500 persons have died from armed bandits attacks in Kebbi in the last 6 months. Pictures of the incidents show hundreds of children and women stranded and seeking refuge in neighbouring communities following the attacks. The affected communities share borders with Niger and Zamfara, two northwestern states embattled with banditry and kidnapping. Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State has said two weeks before bandits attacked Federal Government College, Birnin Yauri, there was an intel on bandits presence. The school wasn’t closed, instead a detachment of special Anti-terrorism Task Force was deployed there. When he visited the school in Birnin Yauri for on-the-spot assessment, the governor addressed parents, staff and the students that escaped being kidnapped. He said when he consulted with the federal authorities on the situation at hand, it was agreed that since the school would be closing in two weeks time after the students finished writing their terminal examination, the school should be provided with security for the period. “About two weeks ago we heard that there was a bandits movement. Bandits were sighted around here. “We consulted with federal authorities and they told us that the schools has about two weeks to finish their terminal exams. “At that consultation we all agreed that if security could be found and stationed in the school that could support the children to finish their exams before going home. “The police commissioner graciously enough find a big contingent from the special Terrorism Task Force that were stationed in the school before the incident that happened yesterday (Thursday). He added that it was that bandits confronted policemen who were providing security to the school and overpowered them and unfortunately, made away with some of our children, some teachers and other employees. https://dailytrust.com/yauri-abduction-why-kebbi-didnt-close-school-despite-report-of-bandits-presence Shame on the Nigerian police |

sizzorchan:Guess you didn't get the point, When you have a well built 700km sq area or anything like that, you can have cops almost every where. The response to crime would be very fast, 5 Min, 10min, 15min response time, if you respond to a crime within such a short time, you can be rest assured the criminal/s wouldn't have gone far, so you can lock down the entire neighborhood and search from blocs to blocs. The tactics only work in cities or urban areas, it can't really work in rural areas or poorly built cities where there are no substantial Town planning. So that's why I said you can't really compare, not trying to absolve police of incompetence to provide security. |

And I"m telling you this is how the entire country works, which is how many times bigger than Nigeria? let's stop making excuses, the nigeria police is a very useless force. There are good officers, but there's so much they can do without adequate support system. I'm talking about distribution of forces, constant patrols of sensitive areas, placing police stations within certain locations for prompt response time etc, pretty much all the entire police force in America operate in similar way. Yet the US is massive compared to Nigeria. Poor planning, lack of resources and adequate training is the problem. What landmass are you talking about when cops stop chasing a suspect that's only ahead of them by a few yards? lol. please. The will isn't there, most cops in nigeria don't wanna risk their lives for silly pay and zero protection for officers, why risk it youghs: |

GeneralFarouq:The specifics are not particularly pertinent. But with regards to the BOLD I am sure there would be wide spread overwhelming agreement that this regime. IS THE MOST INCOMPETENT, INEPT, LAWLESS and NEPOTISTIC, TRIBAL, to name a few of its attributes in.the entire history of Nigeria. Whether GEJ instituted this particular arms dealer or not we have no evidence to the contrary. And your assertion " , Babaowen deliberately lied" is not substantiated as a result it's mere hearsay birthed from your own partisan perspective. With regards to Sahara reporters before PMB came to power he got very favourable reviews from Sahara. But they have seen through the smoke screen and have rightly called a spade a spade. No wonder the entire infrastructure of the federal state is used to hold Sowore without any iota of evidence or justification. |

Half-naked women lament killing of 13-year-old, block Kaduna-Abuja highway over banditry The police in Kaduna state has deployed its operatives to restore order and allow travellers to move on the Kaduna-Abuja dual carriageway, following a protest by hundreds of locals, including half-naked women who blocked the road in anger against the alleged killing of a 13-year-old by bandits. A couple of days ago, residents of Sabo Gaya ,one of the communities that suffered attacks near the NYSC camp along the highway, cried over the massive exodus from the area due to incessant attacks and abductions by the bandit. A local has lamented over the absence of security ,alleging that bandits had gone from house to house and abducted a Yoruba trader with her children ,before they went away with a woman and her newly wed daughter. ” The bandits wanted to abduct the newly wed daughter but the women resisted ,insisting she was her only child and will not bear the brunt of losing her. So the bandits went with both mother and her daughter, ‘ he said. Also Read: Iwo Road Mayhem: Olopoeyan exonerates self from killings On Saturday , travellers were forced to cut their journey on the Abuja-Kaduna highway as protesting locals blocked the road. According to a source ,” the protesters are not happy over the killing of a 13-year-old girl by bandits. at Anguwan Magaji in Chikun Local Government Area. “The bandits stormed the house of the village head and abducted his family as well as other persons in the area. The bandits have stopped us from going to our farms and now they are coming to our houses to kidnap us.” “They killed a 13-year-old girl, a guard man in the village and kidnapped our people. The Mai Anguwa family ,too,” he said. He explained that the residents only wanted security or to be allowed to protect themselves against the bandits. He said that the protesters were so angry and had refused to listen to any plea to free the road. It was gathered that on the arrival of the police and soldiers, the men left the scene, leaving their womenfolk who continued the protest ,some half naked. While the security agents were pleading with the women to allow a free flow of traffic ,the men were heard encouraging the women ,some meters away. The Police Public Relations Officer in Kaduna, ASP Mohammed Jalige, said the Area Commander has been directed to restore law and order in the area. “We are trying to ensure that the road is open to allow road users access. We are meeting the community leaders and the protesting youths to discuss the problem. There is an incident along the highway but we are trying to control the situation,” he said. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CuUNOJuUcS8 https://www.vanguardngr.com/2021/06/half-naked-women-lament-killing-of-13-year-old-block-kaduna-abuja-highway-over-banditry/ |
