Congratulations dear, I tap into this testimony also. Still watching and waiting, God is in the neighborhood

You all are the real MVPs. Lekiboe, Frank, Anon, Uzomachukwu, Baphil, Lianna, Shuppy, my darling Sis Bisola, infact, all of you, God will continue to bless you all. Special shout out to Oga Seun for creating this impactful forum, i am happy to have known this great family...

So, Australia was my first choice because i couldn't dare try Canada, I had heard of their strict study visa assessments. I spent a lot of money with different agents as most schools in Australia would never deal directly with students. I finally settled with a school in NSW and boom, Corona happened and their borders have been closed since then.

I had no choice but to try the almighty Canada and trust me, my anxiety and preconceived fear of their stringent rules got a better part of me because, my application was messssssyyyyyyyyy!!!!

1) After submitting my app, i read on here that i shouldn't have done a money gift deed, especially when the gift-er isn't related to me, moreover, some folks said they haven't seen any study visa getting approved with a money gift deed by a gift-er who isn't part of the family. Guess what! they were right because my application would be the first they'd see. I am self sponsored applicant and the bulk of my fund was gifted by my late father's friend. Even though we don't share the same blood and name, we had something more than that, we had the commitment and bond. So i had him do a money gift deed(10m), which he paid into my account in bulk, sometime in February. I dug up old pictures of himself and late father, old pictures of himself and myself when i was younger, letter he wrote to me in place of popsy during my graduation in 2013, financial statement histories between myself, momsy and him, from different banks and as old as 2014. I also had him write a support letter and explain why he had to make such commitments, using his Company's letter headed paper.

2) In the bid to achieve the much needed mb capacity, i had shredded lots of documents off my application and eventually ended up tampering with my transcript. I reported myself here on Nairaland, hoping to get some hope or outright condemnation. Lol, i was told to resend the transcript and beg them not to misunderstand my intention, and then hope for the best outcome. Uzomachukwu, on the contrary, opined to be concise and not beg for their mercy as though i have done something "hideous". Eventually, she helped my with a well structured mail and i sent it to IRCC via webform. Baphil also reached out and re-compressed my files, she produced a much clearer file even with the additional missing pages. I don't know how she did it but i was wowed and i sent my files afresh via email.

3) Not a single ghost update till this morning. From what i read here, i guess i didn't really get any ghost update since my status remained "submitted", until this morning when i saw "your status updated". At a point i was praying for any kind of update, lollllllll.

One month and few days after my application, i requested for my GCM notes on 24th May, it came in yesterday, 23rd June. I hoped to tackle any negative feedback via webform but i was disappointed as i couldn't understand anything there and it seemed empty. Nairalanders said otherwise and i should brace myself for a positive feedback, Anon also assured me that a positive decision was coming soon since it was noted at the tail end of the notes, IRCC called my school to re-affirm the validity of my LOA. Even with all these, i remained skeptical, a little pessimistic and a little hopeful

This morning, as i logged in as per my usual ritual, I saw correspondence letter and PPR request sitting pretty on my page long before a mail dropped.
My application was tacky at best, i couldn't pray to save myself, i guess the prayers and good wishes of everyone and my family&friends made a way for me to be found worthy. I pray for this uncommon Grace for all PPR hopefuls, together we will all celebrate.

Application and confirmation was done on 17th April, with complete NSE docs (RLWS-7,7.5,7,7.5)
Biometrics Request on 18th April
IELTS Request letter, i resubmitted my IELTS
Did my upfront medicals together with my biometrics on 29th and 28th of April.
Medicals updated to pass on 28th of may after sending mails to Lagos
First Gcmnotes requested on 24th May, it arrived on 23rd June
Second Gcmnotes requested on 21st June...
Correspondence L and PPR request on 24th June.

Study plan is an aspect of an SOP. People just tend to use the term interchangeably. You seem to be placing too much emphasis on your family. And no, there's separate letter for anything. Every explanation regarding your home ties must be included in your sop. Family members birth certificate is not necessary. Your mother working somewhere is not an home tie. Your home ties are incentives for you to return home after your studies. If you're going for an agricultural program, your parents poultry and farm are incentives for you to return home. Even the explanation you give regarding career path can be used as an home tie. You must make the most out of every circumstance.

I was beginning to lose hope that I would be answered. Thanks for your response.

I am doing a Biology major and I am a minor, is it still compulsory to have an sop? How can I input/suggest evidence of my home ties into my sop, if needed?

I'm 16.

Congratulations LadyBlaq!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and congratulations to everyone who have received their PPR. I am so happy for everyone. For those of us still on the journey, let us persevere in faith and trust God to complete that which He has started.

I also implore all of us to celebrate even the most little accomplishments. Also can you share your SOP submitted for visa.

That is true. I am trying to see how I can upload the documents but there is no link in my account. The request letter I got specifically stated that I should not send any documents via email or webform but they have not provided any link in the portal. Is there anyway that I can contact them to bring this to their attention?

No I didn't submit NSE request. I think it was a little fast because it's a reapplication for a previously approved visa and it was reviewed at the same embassy.

Please gurus in the house I need advice.

When I did my application online, I submitted the my sponsors statement of account. That was the only account I listed in the letter of sponsorship as his account. At the time of the application he had 20million in his account. Now, I informed him to get the MBS certificate and he just told me that there’s no money in the account anymore. He suggested that he uses a new account even though it bears the same name and in the same bank. Now even in that new account he doesn’t have enough money and he wants to transfer from another of his account to that new account.

Can I send this account instead even if money will be transferred to this new account that was not initially included in his letter of sponsorship as his account? Can I also attach a letter of explanation letting them know is to just show more funds?

Won’t it look suspicious if money is transferred a day to sending the MBS certificate even if it’s his own account and his money? I’m really confused

Also, how many months statement of account is required for the MBS and is it true a minimum of 10million must have been in the account consistently for 6 months?

Thank you please. I’m supposed to submit tomorrow but I’m confused. What do you advise I do?

My application is kinda similar to yours considering
I'm also applying as a minor. Your home ties could be actually your family in the sense that you ,you won't want to stay in another country without family so you won't exceed the appropriate duration.
Also , it could be like the employment prospect of your prospective course stating in your SOP that you country they really offer job or want people that studied abroad.
The course is like an hot course in Nigeria, we really need it ,how it can help your country and all
Make sure you sound patriotic in your SOP
Another one, properties we're Young so we don't have properties but you can be like you will want to come back to your home country to look over the properties ( your parents)
Home ties are basically what will make you come back to your country.mothers government job can't really serve as an home tie because you're not the owner of the job ,you mum can wish to change her employment.
TheDarkGamer:
Aside from the consent letter, how do I convince the visa officer of my home ties? What should I include, to serve as strong home ties?

What I have now are:

Family pictures, landed properties, family members' birth certificates, mother has a government job in the university, parents poultry and fish farm (lol, I don't know if that's helpful), mother's supermarket, etc. Should all this be written in a separate letter?

What more can help to strengthen it?

Is Study plan the same as statement of purpose?

Thank you.

1Girllykdat:
Hello everyone. Please I'm in a fix & I need your advice cry.

Prior to my application for a research-based msc programme in Canada, I reached out to a prof who confirmed she'd be taking in 2 graduate students and also confirmed that our research interests aligned but wouldn't take anybody yet till the academic committee and potential supervisors reviewed all applications.

4 months after applying (may 2021), I heard nothing from the school. So, I mailed the graduate co-ordinator inquiring about the outcome of my application and the professor replied instead.

The prof told me she was finalizing her research group for fall and asked if I'd be able to talk over zoom. We had the meeting and we talked about my research proposal and said she'd be taking me in and giving me the emails of her other students and would speak to the graduate co-ordinator about funding as I am an international student.

With her word, I assumed I was in only for me to again mail the graduate co-ordinator in June (as time for visa application was going) and then be told the prof isn't taking in students again.

I was shocked and asked if there was a mix-up. I mailed the supervisor and she said she was sorry and that I misunderstood her. That she was torn as I am an excellent fit for her lab but that she is already taking in 2 phd students and now at her maximum capacity.

I mailed the graduate co-ordinator and asked if it was possible to switch to course work instead. She said that though my application had already been denied (cos of the prof), I would be considered.

But now the thing is next week is July and I don't even know when I would hear from the school. Plus neither I nor my close relatives have my school fees. I thought I would get in through research which is why I applied for only research programmes.

I met the minimum requirement of 75% btw . Had 82% in undergrad.

Does anybody have an idea how I can "appeal" to the professor or go about the situation?

Sorry about this. There is no point switching to course based program if you don’t have tuition fee.

Brace up, and start again! Don’t let anyone tell you to go through the stress of raising money and all, life isn’t that hard. If your parents or yourself can’t sponsor you, then you should get funding for your graduate school.

So, kindly share your academic profile here or via a direct message, and we all can comment further.

It will end in praise!

Everything @ekulu77 wrote is very accurate. Age is on your side, no vo will look at you as a risk as long as there is enough proof that your parents have enough finances to take care of your studies.
In addition think of the highest attainable position your prospective International degree can get you in naija. State that It is one of the plans you have for when you return to your home country. Talk about your position in your family and how important it is for you to return. Sing praises about the things you will be abale to achieve when you return. Don’t forget that your parents finances has to be air-tight (considering that they have other financial responsibilities apart from your schooling). It will end in praise

Except you have a passport from a developed country, you must write an SOP. The career prospect of the course you're going for is not a promising one in Nigeria but like I said, you must make the most out of every circumstance. You mentioned your mum being a lecturer or something like. Focus on your long term plan and goal in your SOP. For example "...I want to be a researcher on neglected tropical diseases ravaging some parts of Nigeria". You see how I have inputted an incentive to return home. Your parents can include their landed properties and talk about their establishments in their sponsorship letter. You just focus on how this course is going to be useful on your return to Nigeria in the future to address home ties.

Are you doing this on your own? You need proper guidance especially with your SOP. I can't make that commitment. I'm stressed. You might need to seek professional service of justmellow or Frank. All the best.

Gurus in the house,

Please, I applied April 15 and I just joined this trend after the application. I didn’t submit my WAEC, Degree certificate and transcript along with the application.

Please what can be done to fix this error, thanks.

Congratulations!
Emphasis on the bolded..
And my lawyers have attested to this fact even in my own case.
Sometimes in life, you'll need to take a stand and fight especially when it's crystal-clear that justice was never served fair!
I'm glad for you.
I'll be back to share mine too..

MyRace:
VERY VERY LONG POST ALERT!
However, I thought to write this long so that different people can pick a thing or two......
Do read along....................

Hello everyone, thank you for your kind words and congrats to all who have gotten their PPR thus far. As promised, I'll try to share my story with you guys, even though it's incomplete as of yet.

Family of 5
Study permit for me and 3 children, visitor's visa for hubby
Submitted June 10, 2020.
Biometrics request June 11
Biometrics done August 24 (a day after VFS reopened)
GCMS requested August 28
Refusal September 24
GCMS came back Sept 28

Now, from the GCMS notes, I noticed the following:
1. The decision to refuse was taken as at July 11! Guys try to order your GCMS as early as 6 weeks into your application.
2. There was an error in reaching one of the reasons for my refusal. I had done an MBA in Nigeria, going for a Masters of Finance, but the VO interpreted it that I had done an MFin previously and so there's no career progression.

Immediately i received the GCMS, I torn between reapplying and seeking a Judicial Review (JR). The reason I considered the JR in the first place was because I felt the refusal simply unfair and baseless. Yes, a visa is not my right, however, as long as an individual meets the guidelines set in place, it is only fair that they receive a positive outcome.

Another reason I considered it is because, it's an opportunity people rarely use and this has given VOs the leeway to keep refusing people on a whim. If more people contest their refusal and win, it will likely lead to an overhaul of the current system going on in Nairobi.

October 2, I contacted an Immigration Consultant on Instagram about the possibility of reapplying. After reviewing all my documents, he insisted I go for JR, but hubby was not convinced. 1 because he didn't want to "fight" the Canadian immigration system and 2, he wasn't sure if the outcome would be successful especially considering the cost difference between paying a lawyer and reapplying.
Well, Consultant introduces us to an Immigration Lawyer. He reviews my documents again and said that I had a "Perfect" application, and so there's no reason for a refusal. Then he went ahead and offered to go ahead without a DIME being paid! If he loses, he goes away empty handed, but if he succeeds, then we pay a certain amount above the initial base amount. Hubby was more confortable with this arrangement.

October 29th after many back and forth, we submitted our application for JR. We were meant to get a response exactly 30 days which was to lapse on November 29th.

November 29th, Lawyer receives an email from the IRCC lawyers asking for additional 3 days to file their response.

And then silence, no further communication or even the expected response.

December 19th, I received an email saying there was a notification on my GCKey.

I logged on, and saw that the portion that usually shows "refused" had changed to "submitted". Every other member of my family's own still remained "refused". We called lawyer, he said he hasn't heard from them. Now, "success" with regards to our agreement with the Lawyer is when IRCC asks for "settlement". So at this point, it seemed like my application had been reopened without any agreement between my Lawyer and that of IRCC.

The wait was unimaginable!

January 12 I ordered GCMS and it came back February 12, and in it, it was stated that my application has been reopened because of a JR and my Lawyer has accepted the terms of the settlement!

Immediately, we sent the GCMS to him, still he maintained he hadn't heard anything from them. February finished, nothing!

March 3rd, Lawyer receives a letter requesting for a settlement on the case and the terms of the settlement. This was the exact same letter in my GCMS notes posted to my portal AS AT DECEMBER 2020! Anyway, we felt at least things are moving small small.

March 11, I received a request for additional documents. Really, what was important were new LOA and Financial statements.

March 24 uploaded the requested documents.

April 10 did up-front medical

April 29 Up-front medical passed

May 3, review for uploaded documents started.

June 16, Correspondence letter and PPR, 2 minutes apart.

Hubby and the children's applications were not reopened, we're currently in a dilemma as to whether to reapply for them or right a letter to IRCC. Your kind suggestions would be highly appreciated.

A few things to note from my personal experience:

1. The VOs are not as smart or as efficient as we tend to give them credit for.

2. Most times, approvals and refusals are given based more on feelings than clear evidence before them.

3. While I understand that JR is an expensive route, it would be nice if more people do it as it will highlight a lot of the rubbish they do at the embassy.

4. Lastly, let's be considerate to other people about how we boast after getting PPR. Trust me, the things you boast about: perfect SOP, Prayers, Documents etc, there are people who did all that and more and still got refused.

In the course of this journey, I also started to pursue a student visa in tbe UK before things started looking up, and believe me, the system with the British is far more transparent than that of Canada. Once you meet the requirements at submission, you are over 80% sure you'll be awarded the visa. But there's a lot of bias and subjectivity with the Canadian embassy.

I want to thank every single contributor to this Agile forum for the work you do! I submitted a "Perfect Application" ( according to my Lawyer) thanks to the stuff I got from here.

Also, I want to thank @frankrobben for his patience and selflessness here. People drag him all the time, but he never relents in being helpful. I remember the day I wrote about the JR option and his contribution and how he was dragged and insulted. Yet, he and I have never had any direct encounter and the Consultant and Lawyer did not come from him. Well done!
I pray everyone gets their prayers answered as well
