Is Uber/Bolt still lucrative?
I'm planning to buy Toyota Corolla 2007-2010 Tokunbo and give it out to a driver. Which one is better, Hire purchase or weekly payment?

Hire Purchase
How much should the hire purchase agreement be if the car is around 2M-2.5M?

Weekly Payment
And if it is weekly payments, how much should it be?

Aside Toyota Corolla, is any of these cars below also good for Uber/Bolt in terms of durability and fuel consumption?
Honda City
Kia Rio 2010+
Hyundai Elantra
Honda Civic
Toyota Camry
Hyundai Accent

Please advise. Thanks.

Ok, took this rider from VI to Shomolu after Unilag... Trip staryed at about 6:15pm or thereabouts, GMap took me through some inner streets in Marina believing to cut off some traffic because the traffic was mad. Came out on 3md the exit b4 clinical rd then went tru clinical rd to come out at Herbert McC Rd,...

Did some danfo driving... Tje traffic was mad and finished trip even b4 ETA in 90min instead of 180min. Ended trip and was robbing my head to relax, as I raised my head to see how much the fare was I was surprise to see that price was automatically under review... Wow!

I was like, who asked for price review? Rider too was surprised as me. I asked her what the estimate was she said 2800-3500.

So whats gonna happen because it can take bolt 24hrs to return a price review.

Rider offered to trx 5k saying in case its returns more than I should contact her for additional pay and I told her ok and in case iys returns less she should contact me for a refund.

Yesterday morning Bolt returned the review with N1900. I was like really?!!

Anyways, since rider already trx 5k to me I know if I context further they still not change it or rather increase it to 2.3k at most and that will further increase their commission as well and affect my current balance so I just accepted like that.

Went back to check for riders info thia morning but couldn't get her contact so i contacted bolt for her number.

The rest na history

So i was now wondering, how would Bolt just carryout a price review automatically just like that even when there was no lost in GPS all through the ride or was it because I finished rhe ride b4 the ETA? Or due to the routes I took?

This new Bolt app enh!! e no go kill person o

But you no finish this your story na. How much did you refund the rider cheesy

Now look at this phrase closely again, how would you feel if you're that man readimg this? One of our(my) staff... What's the need mentioning names in the first place even? Just look at the way u r even forming CEO (my staff) like u r d only CEO in Nigeria.

Baba be humble abeg.

How much you sell your property is not the issue and I've no business with that but menh this kinda statements are reasons why shit happens.

You even went further to mention brand new tires, na condemn tires you for put for the car? Or don't you know brand new tires easily fail than even the tokunbo tires that we have because they've gone through some series of test on the road b4 imported down to 9ja? Only that most of them have factory failures and are mostly winter tires.

Look at the bolded again and interpret these phrase very well again to yourself... Does this sounds good... You don't need to use some key words like "he has been home" somebody can even misinterpret this that you're sleeping with the wife reason why re sounding like its a favour you're doing for the man or better still the woman must have begged you to help the husband since he has been sleeping at home doing nothing... I can go on and on to scrutinize that phrase.

1.2m profit in 24months as profit is nothing short of 75% profit... Commercial banks don't even make that much in 10years of a loan tenure so bros be grateful and stop that feeling of a boss.

Lastly, can you now see you have something to say to me?

Just want to know if this Ehailing is profitable in lbadan as it is in Lagos. The thread for Ibadan Uber/Bolt Driver is a dead thread no update or post.

The Drivers here in Ibadan are always at loggerhead with Bolt management. I have been following their activities on Twitter for a long time.

From what my inlaw told me, I think it is. She said drivers are always far away which means there are a lot of riders chasing few drivers.

Though I think the fare is poor compared to Lag but few drivers also means there'll be constant surge.

First of all, remove Toyota Camry on that list. E get many whys.

If you're buying a car for business, forget higher purchase, and forget Tokunbo.

Weekly payments 30k, only on the condition that you are undertaking all repairs on the vehicle.

Look for a tokunbo standard Nigeria used and buy. If you buy kpokoro kpokoro Nigerian used, pls don't quote me. After buying the Tokunbo standard, take it to your trusted mechanic and do a total revamp of the suspension, all bushings ball joints(front and rear, cooling system, radiator. Wash up the interior, change brake bad's, slam on brand new tires, comprehensive insurance and tracker. Spray the car if you have to. This is because the car won't have any business breaking down for 2 months atleast.

I don't think you'll spend 2m to get to this stage. Then driver recruitment is next. Never ever recruit a driver that doesn't make up to 100k weekly, ever. Else story story everyday. This also means avoid new drivers. Drivers who just learnt to drive or wey no sabi at least 70% of Lagos roads, axe!

I repeat, 30k weekly. And you are doing all repairs henceforth. Use the same mechanic that revamped the vehicle cos he now knows the history and make sure you keep a record of every repair made.

You get sense.

Naija used vehicles are also costly now. By the time you buy the said Tokunbo standard and fix it up, how much do you think you'll save as against buying toks. Maybe 200k. That's when you start asking yourself if it's actually worth it.

Before I will concluded that a car needs a new engine. It is very necessary to check the following....

Checks for leaks... You might want to check for leaks once u park the car overnight .. You wait till the next morning move the car and look for sign of oil leak on ground ....

Check pcv valves.... Have a mechanic check the pcv valves.. Pcv valves are usually overlooked . It is something that you can easily check urself .......

Engine valve cover.. Have a mechanic open up the engine valve cover and look for worn seals or look for traceable leaks........this has to done when the engine is cool .. ...

After doing all these checks and there is no trace of any oil leak .. You might have to get a new engine. Better yet half engine... The deciding factor is to check for white smoke .......

If you start the car let it warm up a bit .. Check for white smoke .. If the car is emitting white smoke after fully warm up .. It means a blown gasket and engine might be salvage depending on the damaged done .. But most people will advice to replace the engine.........

The above is my past experience with 1 of my uber cars .. It was actually a 2004 Camry. I bought the car tokunbo and at the time the car was ok .. We used 20w50 engine oil . this was before I knew anything about engine oil .........The car at the was emitting white smoke .. My mechanic at the time advice me to sell the car before the white smoke becomes too obvious .. So the car was sold ...........

Again the above was my personal experience

I agree with you, however, another perspective about the highlight, sometimes, and this is from my experience, because the mechanic feels like he "knows" the car he is forever approaching your complaints from that angle. He doesn't feel the need to explore new possibilities regarding your complaints and might even become contemptuous in attitude.
Had an issue like that, every time I had something to complain about he would say na that thing, shebi he has told me what to do. Meanwhile all my research is pointing at a different cause and when I sought a fresh pair of eyes I was right. Some very minute things. So it's kind of touch and go with this in my experience
