This is nice really nice tread. @whyna, your story is so inspiring, I am so happy for you and wishing you success and more winnings on this journey. Vietnam sounds like such a delightful place with affordable living conditions

however how is Vietnam coping with the coronavirus, are there still lockdowns in place and I heard school resumptions are still pending?

I started reading from page 1 and been able to peruse half of the thread and feel so pumped and inspired, I would like to contact you most urgently.

We've been on partial lockdown since May.

Schools, bars, restaurants, clubs etc have been closed but we all still move freely with our mask on

Guys if you want to go to Vietnam and study or you just have to go there, that's all well and good but there are some things you should consider.

First, the US embassy has been far more receptive to Nigerians like never before ever since Biden assumed power and repealed Trump's travel ban. It is so much easier to get American visit visa or student visa now and better still you can now try for an L1 Visa.
The US infrastructure plan proposed by Biden and already signed into law is also going to create an estimated "19 million jobs" of varied types. From what I have seen before now some Nigerians already in the US are making up to $3,000 (BT) a week as nurses/caretakers! I cannot even begin to list the numerous other advantages of chasing US visas. Even if it is easier to get Vietnamese visa than its American counterpart (which is most definitely unlikely now), it doesn't matter because we all know that nothing really worth having comes easy.

Second, how much is it really to get a visa, US or Vietnam? And if you are to get the help of a true, tested travel agent how much will they add on top? Why would anyone choose to spend more money in getting to Vietnam (where discrimination is higher and wages lower) than to US where you will make many times more in wages with even the opportunity to be a citizen?!
If you have to go to any country, do it yourself and if you can't, make sure you get that true connection to the travel agent you are dealing with so don't end up telling stories that touch the heart. Meeting someone on Nairaland that says you should send him/her money to get you visa is illegal and if the person disappears tomorrow with your money which police will you cry to?
A situation where someone has not even left the shores of Nigeria but is already sending thousands of dollars to an unidentified (undocumented) person on Nairaland claiming to be an agent or promising to hook you up with an agent is highly risky.

Third If your frame of mind is; I cannot get a visa myself because I don't know how, so I have to spend some money hiring a travel agent. Then by all means do so, but like I said be careful where you get your agent from so one doesn't get tied into illegal documentations, deceptions and scams. Also get a solid agent that can go that extra mile and actually facilitate an L1 Visa. They say whatever is worth doing is worth doing well.

Thanks for the info bro. For someone a fresh graduate, what will it cost me to travel using this L1 visa. I really have plans to move if everything works out highest before 2023. Kindly give me the total cost bro. Looking forward to your response! Or if there are other kind of visa that can take me out for hustling not really for studies. Any available route.

When I found a genuine agent and decided to start the process, I had just 14k in my account. Lol. I had ajo I was supposed to collect and also a kolo but all put together wouldn't even have been enough. I just told God to surprise me....and HE DID!

The very first thing I got was a police character report from Alagbon. Then I proceeded to get my medical and TEFL certificate.

With this 3 documents and my degree, I left for Abuja for authentication.

First stop was Ministry of Education and boy! a suprise was waiting for me there
Please, @whyna, do I need to do Toefl too? Or just Tefl is okay, then I can do Celta later. Kindly put me thru on this please

all my papers are ready except PCC and Medical. when I am ready to move I will get that and then go for the authentication.

I've had over 5 Skype interviews for centers in China. 1 center have already offered me a space but I told them I will like to come in January 2021. I need to save more before going.
Please did you write toefl or ielts? Do I need to write it before writing tefl? Kindly provide me with answers. Thank you

why do you think people prefer beef to pork in Nigeria. ( does it has to due unavailability of pork in major market or religious beef , ) will you buy pork when you visit Nigeria. ( this is a market survey on behalf of pig farmers)

Bro, 3k dollars will be very enough for that 6 months but my big fear is the posibility of getting a tourist visa as a Nigerian, bro i doubt if they still give tourist visa to Nigerians. The best option will be going through an agent of which you will need to be careful in looking for a reliable one. @WhyNa has written about this before so play your card well.

I Am not in Vietnam but from my research expect something like This, so you will now need to look for where and how to cut your expenses.

If you get accomodation of like $200×6=1,200
Feeding n utility per month $100x6=600
Flight $900
Total..........$2,700
Visa............xxxxx

If you can get an apartment of 150 or even 100 dollar, good.

@WhyNa should have more detailed info.

My advice.
Leave going to Vietnam for now, complete your NYSC and save more then just migrate fully to Vietnam or go to Vietnam for the 6months, get a teaching job and just stay there.

Trust me, you don't need to spend 1m to go and cool your brain then come back to do NYSC. That might not be the best decision.

If you want to cool off, trust me you can achieve that in Nigeria, relocate to another cool state.

Finally, I believe you might have more reasons for wanting to cool off there, if they are legit, by all means, ride on. Maybe you should send @WhyNa a mail and give her more details, she might create time and guild you better.
Good luck bro.[/quote

Hi, am a 44-year-old classroom teacher in one of the government secondary schools. I wish to migrate to Vietnam with my 2 kids as a teacher. My husband is suggesting New Zealand or the UK which is just too expensive and out of our reach. I want to use the study route to pursue a master's degree in education, then look for a teaching job, do you think it's a good idea?
Please I need you sincere advice. Thank you.

Vietnam is changing. Lots of new rules and regulations and restrictions.

I can't give advice now until Vietnam defeats this current pandemic that isn't looking good right now.

When things are back to normal, we'll get more accurate information and can advise accordingly. Right now, lots of things are in the pipeline so we're not 100% sure

As much as possible, I'll try to document my step by step journey to Hanoi, Vietnam.

This is my first time outside Nigeria and the excitement no be here. Lol

In 2014, I took my first and only IELTS, made a 7.5, even created a thread and was optimistic about getting a scholarship. Between 2014 and 2018, I applied for dozens of scholarship but was always given admission without scholarship or put on reserve list.

2019, I had had enough and decided to look into other ways of leaving Nigeria

.....

Hello,
Please I know this may just sound off the hook....but are you still in Vietnam?
I am interested in getting a medical equipment from Hanoi.....
And shipping to Nigeria.
Can I speak or chat with you ma'am?
