From your explanation, i don't think canada is for me.

I can't live in a shared apartment, or beg some organization for food or wait till 7pm to cook.

I can't be at the mercy of other people for my survival.

I wish you guys goodluck.

Thank you,
This is for those trying to curb expenses as they initially try to settle - This is for those unemployed or employed at minimum wage. The person I was replying came in a month ago.

But then luck differs for people. You can make it in Nigeria

Cars are not cheap in the abroad too, what people with low income can buy are usually "next to scrap"
What are regarded as car's abroad are something in the range of $7000 and above or equivalent in other currencies, those are car's
that still comes under some sort of warranty except you wan buy auction car's

Most people can't even afford to pay that $7k in cash, they still go for some sort of financing.
Is that what you think ? I’m here talking of basic cars , not luxury . That Toyota Camry 2003 is a car that if a student buys, they will mock him , taxis outside is mainly Toyota Camry 2013 above . Older cars are very cheap outside as people don’t want to even buy it, it’s mainly sent to Africa . But here 80% can’t afford it cause of custom duty and cost of shipping . Your 150k salary in a year can’t buy Naija used Toyota Camry 2003 . That’s too bad

I swear you just hit the nail on the head!!! Lemme tell you my uncle's story. For so many years he's been trying to move abroad and he's been duped a couple of times. He got admission and refused to go to school saying the Nigerian system as being useless!! He's been working as a security guard for several years and the while family saw him as being useless and having no ambition! Everyone gave up on him! Omo this uncle of mine had all his mind in the US and it's either USA or nothing!! Then in 2017 God picked his call and he got a visit visa to the USA for a conference in NEW YORK Omo before he left withing a week the while family raised 900K for him plus his own little savings so he left. After the conference in NEW YORK , he moved to another State then started planning numerous legal ways to legalise his stay. He knew he had to look for ways to legalise his stay withing the 2yrs his visit visa was valid. So to cut story short , he applied for Asylum with a valid reason and he employed and immigration lawyer mind you the moment he applied for Asylum he was given a temporary work permit of which he could use to work pending till when his Asylum case is being determined , he was also given an accommodation and Food stamp. To cut the story short , he was granted an asylum and he now enjoys benefits in the US. As of today he has a house he bought in the US , A car , he has a land in Nigeria too and he's been helping family members to some extent. So I would say for someone who has only WAEC and was working a security job in Nigeria living a good life top earners live in Nigeria I would say moving abroad brought only good tidings for him. 2yrs back he collapse at work and And 911 was called they came ASAP was administering first aid to him right in the Ambulance until he got to the Hospital. Dr said something about Kidney stone or something I can't recollect but he called his siblings and told them about it Omo everybody don begin dey plan how them go start praying and fasting Omo the next day he called and said the Dr operated on him and it's been resolved!!! Now tell me if he was in Nigeria na mortuary in for land!

So looking at my uncle's case Omo if you no what's you're doing and you're so determined to move abroad not cos you're being forced Omo you go make am abeg!! In 2019 he even tried to help 6 members of the family come over!! He paid money for our passports and Visa application fees but Omo dem deny all of us ooo!! So for me Abroad anytime any day!
that other guy no b street! grin

You obviously suffer lack of comprehension when I wrote "next to scrap" what do you think i was talking about?

Do you expect cars to be cheaper here when you don't have or own the technology?
Some of you just love to argue blindly

The problem with most of you is that you choose what is convenient for you when making comparison, you insisted that ₦150k is not a living wage and also insisted that 2003 camry isn't near scrap.
isn't that idiotic? aren't you born to suffer?
How many sane person in europe or america still rides a 2003 car in 2021 when 2022 cars are already with the dealers?

You claimed ₦150k is a small money yet you said a 2003 car of $700 is not a scrap.
isn't that poor mentality?
You canvases for a hire wage yet you advocate that people should ride in 2003 car?

Mental poverty is the worse of all poverty they said., highly difficult to cure.

Don’t mind our people. A lot of them traveling don’t have transferable skills by way of experience from good (well structured) companies eg multinationals. They do not have foreign qualifications and they want to hit the ground running. It is because most of them are not ready for a rebirth that’s why they think abroad is not good. Abroad is 1m% better than sh!ttuhole Nigeria. Get your information correctly before you leave and pray for God’s directions. You won’t regret it. If you come home, na to just come visit and enjoy home flavors you could have missed.
Also, many don't want to start all over again.

Like i said you don't have a father,so i won't be pained with whatever insults you throw at my parents,if you don't have something you can't appreciate.
Like i told you earlier,a a lowly rated worker won't even drive a 2003 car abroad which is i know is your dream car, despite talking down on ₦150k salary a month you are yet to tell me how much you earn and what you do for a living.
Until i know those two things i will still insist you do not know the value of Money no matter how "little" it is.

For your information ₦1.8m per annum is what that translate to in 12 months.
I can bet with my two balls that your annual turn over does not even hit ₦500k.
prove me wrong with what you do and i will tell you your salary grade.

Wow, that will be excessive. A single person has no business living in a CAD1800 -2500 home except they plan to share (That's the cost of a 3-4 bedroom family home shocked).
They can go for bachelors CAD1000 or one bedroom $1200-$1300. They can also share a three bedroom family home costing $1800 into 3 and pay CAD600 monthly
Avoid homes where you pay for heating because heating is expensive. Why is the tenant paying for water bill in an apartment
Groceries for a single person should not be more than $250 except they like frozen meals and eating out. Food isn't expensive in Canada. And if she every goes above budget and there isn't food, she can locate the closest community Centre food bank, Salvation army, Fire of God church or Shepherds of good hope mission.
Reduce Electricity Bills by cooking during OFF-PEAK hours after 7pm. If she is finding it difficult to pay electricity bill contact OESP or any Provincial authority that can assist with Electricity bills
No point buying a brand new car and paying on credit, Buy a used car and pay cash
This advice is for those trying to settle into Canada, unemployed or at minimum wage.

I knew you were in British Columbia based on the rent you were quoting grin grin!! I hope you are having a great time. Please when you are done with school join us in the East or maybe Alberta.
It does get better. Best of luck

Hmmm. British Columbia na real bring cash! E go better.
