2023: You were still in school when rotational presidency was agreed – Ohanaeze blasts Yahaya Bello

Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has slammed Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State over his comments on rotational presidency.

Recall that Bello had described the clamor for rotational presidency as “unconstitutional.”

He also noted that Nigerians should be allowed to make their choices for the best candidate to emerge for the top post.

Reacting, Ohanaeze in a statement on Monday, signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Chief Alex Ogbonnia slammed the Governor adding that he is “embarking on a political adventure that lacks both conscience and principle.”

Ohanaeze noted that all the miseries and evils which men suffer from vice, crime, ambition, injustice, oppression, slavery and war, proceed from their despising or neglecting the inner still voice or conscience.

Ohanaeze averred that “Governor Bello was still a student, studying accountancy at the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria when an agreement was reached between the North and the South with respect to Rotational Presidency.

“It was on this basis that the Southern Governors resolved in the Lagos meeting that the South should produce the next President of Nigeria after President Muhammadu Buhari.

“We therefore, advise Bello that it would serve his interest better if he supported the resolution by his southern colleagues; more so as “he is still young,” the statement said.

The group further enjoined Bello to embrace the ethical functional relationship between the morality of an agreement and the legality of the constitution.

There is nothing in the Nigerian constitution that suggests rotational presidency.

If anyone has a different opinion, he/she should provide evidence.

It was a PDP concept which even they have abandoned by always providing Atiku as their candidate.

Wether you believe in it or not. , events from 2023 will surely force you to vomit the presidency! All these sma sma na initial gra gra. Nobody is begging you to hand over. You will do so by yourself to survive the heat that will follow... Abacha insisted on retaining power in the 90s, the same way you guys are doing today. In the end, it was your elites that conspired to eliminate him so you can hand over to Obasanjo and save yourselves... Power and presidency is not your birthright! Going forward, that presidency will be so hot in your hands post 2023 that you will beg to surrender that to get some air..

Don't be stupid.

Nobody is asking Buhari to continue, neither is he interested.

The fact remains, rotational presidency isn't constitutional but a gentleman's agreement, a convention which the party that employed it at the beginning has long abandoned.

Is the English Language too difficult for you to understand?

Should Ohaneze be putting mouth on 2023 presidency?

We are not talking about vice president position now

Mr English..

Can you explain to the reading public why the whole North vigorously campaigned against Jonathan because according to them, he was taking over "their turn" at the presidency?

There's nothing like rotational presidency under the constitution. U can't force people to vote for any particular tribe. If igbos want to be president they should quit the hatred for the country first and have a reorientation.

because Jonathan only begged to complete yaraduas tenure. Then he went on to rule for extra 4 years and still wanted another 4 again. That's greed.

Very interesting analogy...
It's greedy for the South South that feeds you to be in the presidency for 2 full terms but totally understandable to you, for your lords in the North to rule for eternity, even though they obviously contribute nada apart from mayhem, choas an economic brigandage....?

I swear you are not the brightest bulb in the room.

PDP as a party, by fielding Jonathan actually reneged on such an agreement.

If they believed in rotational presidency, they would have actually prevailed on Jonathan to wait till the "North's" turn was done.
Of course, that never happened, meaning it means nothing constitutionally.

Rotational presidency was an in-house matter for PDP and as noble as it was, it was quickly jettisoned when the opportunity came.

You're just a rampaging loqaucious charlatan!
Jonathan was already the president by default and has a constitutional right to finish his terms! Jonathan has already said he will hand over to the North after doing his term. .., in fairness to the country's diversity. As far as I'm concerned that was fair enough since the north doesn't even deserve that, after all those misrule in the 70s and 80s and 90s! And you are here talking about it being unconstitutional while busy arguing for extended northern presidency! Is that one constitutional too?

Rotational presidency is a gentleman's agreement across political and ethnic devides in Nigeria. Those of you from the North and the South West who have always argeued in favor of it when it suits you and against it when it won't benefit you are only being treacherous as usual! But like I told you earlier, the chickens will come home to roost post 2023. You will vomit the presidency whether you like it or not the same way Abacha vomited his with his last breath... Or you will loose everything you have gained these years through evil governance..

Ohaneze just insulted Nigerian Youth by saying non of them were born/were in school when rotational presidency was discussed thus they have no say on the matter.

Ohaneze's comment applies to ipob kid terrorists not Nigerian youths who have every right to debate the validity of any agreement made by unelected individuals.

PS southern tribal like this one believe in Quota system presidency not merit which they recommend for ordinary Nigerians not their elites.

I really don’t think irritants like Yahaya Bello should be dignified with a response. He should be allowed to carry on with his circus presidential campaign. At the end of the day, the south will still get the presidency in 2023 and Bello will be trashed in the dustbin of irrelevancy.

What's the business of Ohaneze with 2023 presidency? Is it something they are interested in cos their body language is saying otherwise

Going round in circles.

It is not backed by constitution which is the thrust of this whole debate.

It is noble but its truncation has been unabashedly supported by Ohaneze, so why the sudden u-turn?

I guess they think they have a shot at the seat and wish to lean on this argument for their case. grin

Eating your cake and having it, na their way.
