Still on the issue of co-existing with other humans, the OP told the officer to receive the papers with her left hand if she felt offended. That was a mutual ground of understanding for both of them to reach. So why would the officer withhold her papers because she felt offended that OP stood on her grounds.

Immediately I envisaged what was about to happen that day, I told my wife to start recording and made sure it was recording.

This is very good and insightful. Some quick points,

1. Your whole attitude and demeanor shows you were kinda frustrated you got pulled over. Firstly, lets respect the Police officers and be polite to them.

2. When the Police officer requested you hand the papers over with your right hand? I agree with you absolutely on the question? You should've asked politely and clearly if the law requires you use your right hand or if it is her enforcing her cultural or tribal norm on you? Then you should have handed it over with your right hand but reminded her you will take it up and ask if it is required by law and at that point ask for her name since its not pinned on her chest as well as request that her name should be made known to you since you want to know exactly who you are dealing with so you know who to quote when you escalate or report it to the authorities or social media. (That will keep her on her toes)

3. You made a very good and fair compromise when you'd also asked her to receive it with her left hand.

4. Most importantly, you are an excellent Nigerian and a law abiding citizen since your License and papers are all in order and she had nothing on you. That was AWESOME and rare. Most Nigerians abusing the police are guilty of one thing or the other as well.

My brother if it is about our police force, I avoid them like plague because many of them have been soaked in the oil of corruption, bribery and wickedness due to the power they feel they have due to the uniform and being a member of the force. Many of them are sadist as you are looking at them. They can not be trusted at anytime because their allegiance is on highest bidder.

I have had encounters with them. My issue is on the discuss on if it is good or bad to use left hand to issue things to people. To me, I see nothing wrong in it so far the person is left handed. Definitely we all know majority of humans are right handed and I feel that is why it became strange accepting someone that is left handed in our culture which dated to years ago. Had it been that most humans are left handed, the right hand would have been looked at strangely too.
