Always hard to recover loan after disbursement.. Don't know why people behave this way.

Not hard,Sir. It always depend on the kind of customers you offer loans to.

2. The op should be cautious. In fact, the girl is a "honest" one. I've seen one that claims it was a compensation for "knacking"

Hello Nairalanders,

I have an issue at hand which I need advice of the best line of action to take.

I use to work in a bank here in Abuja, until I resigned in May 2020 and now work in a finance house (a loan firm, also here in Abuja),

January this year (Jan 2021), one of my former colleagues at the bank called to beg me to help her process a loan with my current firm, as she has an urgent need for money & will pay back in 2 months.

Well, I ignored at first, but after series of begging & pestering me, I considered the risk involved,

She wanted #150,000
Her take home was a little over #100k (after tax & pension).

So I agreed & help her facilitate the loan, she got disbursement & details of interest and maturity date.
2 months down the line, I called to notify her of her repayment, to which the said she will may payment in two days time (the loan due date was 31/03/2021)
But instead of making payments she disappeared,

So first week of April, I went to the bank to check on her & was told she resigned from the bank some weeks ago, ever since then she has been giving me one excuse or the other,

Now, I have been held liable of making the repayment at work, since I was the one who approved the loan and the applicant (the customer has absconded).

Secondly, the particular lady no longer pick my calls, she also moved from her old apartment.

I have all relevant paperwork with me,
Please, your candid advice on the best action to take is really appreciated,

Post her number here. Let us call her for you

I have some questions for you first,
(1) Does your organization have a solid legal backup?
(2) Is there any provision for overdue?

If the answers are yes, then provide all details and informations of the defaulter for your legal team and let them take actions,it's understandable you chose to bend some rules but whichever way,the money has to be retrieved meanwhile the repayment would've been in overdue.

Haven said that,i also work in a microfinance bank and my years of experience has made me to understand that;
(1) The police or any force can not do justice whatsoever to the issue on ground,
(2) The organization would find a means of apportioning all the blames on you forgetting that they were constantly pressurizing you for productivity (this doesn't mean that you were not at fault though)
(3) DO NOT TAKE ANY LIABILITY LETTER,do not sign this please
(4) You have the grace of having some portfolio at risk,,,,,,Do not be fooled
(5) The Law supports a defaulter than the borrower
(6) Always carry your immediate Boss along and ensure he's carrying his own immediate boss along too

Do Your Best, let your best be significant and leave the rest,if the organization cannot support in the retrieval, let them add it to their Portfolio At Risk

I think you should just pay up from your pocket and move on.
You broke some rules, except your story is incomplete.
Why are you liable on the basis of approving the loan? Was there no KYC diligence and refree or guarantor from her?
Did you approve an incomplete application?

Negotiate with your company, pay the principal and plead with them to waive the interest.

If there's nothing between you and her other than the loan, just go to EFCC office and lay your complaint. Before 1 week, she will be tracked and arrested.

EFCC doesn't attend to this kind of small money. Magu has said severally when he was efcc Chairman

Bros, last last you will pay, but you know what? You would have learnt a very hard painful lesson.
Nigerians don't pay loans. When the due date reaches they find more important things to do with their money. When due they see reasons why the loan company should be investigated by gov for charging high interest rates etc.
Most will take loans and have no projected means of repayment.
Another set are those that take loans and after getting the money laugh saying they have "gba" (scammed) the loan giver.
Oga, even if you go the police route, last last she will be charged to court and say she can pay 1k every month for the next 5 years. shocked
Elders say "never stand shorty for anyone. Let Jesus be their "oniduro". Never give or facilitate loan you cannot afford to leave.
