Good afternoon @Lekiboboe.

Please take a look at my profile and advise what would be my best option for student visa as a single man.

I have a BSc in Economics and 7 years work experience in Accounting/Auditing.

Kindly advise which 2-year PG Cert or Diploma program will give me the best chance of visa approval.

Thank you.

I generated MBS for my GTB dollar account. You can order for your GCM notes if you haven’t, that may fasten things up, you never know.

amiecandie:

Thanks for your prompt response. I submitted IELTS but I have paid all my tuition fees while the account for upkeep is a US dollar account hence no MBS. Eligibility status has been in progress since May.

Thanks for the response, it's actually an account domiciled in USA, bank of America. I have already received GCMS notes as at the 28th July.

Greetings my people, Please I need some help and guidance for my juniour bro. He is also on the thread and doing his findings. I saw his post but i think he is not asking the right questions.

He is a first class Mech Engineering graduate and currently working with an International engineering firm in Lagos. PR is the ultimate goal because I am in Canada and we are working on that, however I want him to apply to a UNI for him as backup. (Wes done, IELTS on the way so it's a win/win situation).

1. Please what schools will readily give him admission into a master in Mech engineering or related courses like Automation etc. for 2022 Academic year.
2. Does anyone have an idea of schools that may offer scholarships, E.g partial (So we target such schools)?
3. He is writing General IELTS for PR waka, but does he need Academic IELTS for Canadian schools? I have been seeing posters mention it. I thought we had jumped this hurdle already as Nigerians. (There is this english result we usually send...but I am not so sureif it's all uni that accepts it.)
4. Do you advice he goes for Masters or a PG cert course. (because honestly, Master's don't sell here like before, except for some few careers, it's usually diploma and PGC that does employment wonders, but then again, I dread that route for visa conviction).
5. Just advise us biko, any tips will be appreciated.

I am a strong believer of Nairaland as I got my own Canadian PR and previous Visas to different countries on this resourceful website. So i know how powerful the interactions here can help shapen one's life If one is ready to READ. I have also been able to impact on others in other Canadian threads on this website. Please help point me in the right directions, so I do the necessary readings as regards possible schools.

Finally, since I am here in CA, if there is any way I can help with information, please let me know. (Information is power).

Hi, thanks for your response. After doing all this you said and putting it in the envelope who do you give it to? Or where and how do you send it? Through courier? DHL?

Good morning guys, and good job to everyone sacrificing part of their time to come here and help others.

I currently have a situation, and I remember several people who have had this same issue in the past on this thread but can't remember how they tackled it.

I have a friend who used an agent to apply for a study permit. The application was made in February 2021, and now this is August 2021 without a decision yet. Although, I have put in an application for a GCMS note on her behalf as a representative since I am in Canada.

How can she access her GC key account so she can monitor her account in real-time, just like any other person, since the agent is not yielding to give these login details?

Please guide me on how to go about this to have access to the application currently running.

Regards,

Hi all,

It’s my first time dropping a message here. I just want to share our timeline to encourage someone as I have been encouraged.
Admission: My husband(40years) got a PhD position, Uni. of Manitoba.

Location: Sweden on post-study resident permit as at the time we submitted our application, with 2 kids.
Application submitted: June 13th
Biometrics: June 21st
Medicals: Not required
Visa Approved: July 26th, no update on our applications till approval date

Documents submitted:

HUBBY: Letter of Admission
LOE: 6pages, well organized in short topics, with emphases on academic history. We both started our education in Nigeria in a scarce profession (2002) at the diploma level. He finished his first degree at OAU, Ile-Ife, 2010 through DE, we both finished our masters, last year June in Sweden, fully sponsored. He leveraged the non-availability of the course in Nigeria and 95% of African countries (at graduate levels) as a strong link to Nija and Africa and prospect back home. We added links to the latest advert for our profession in academics that there are no qualified persons to fill up. And several other links to how we have been contributing to the development of our profession in Nigeria.

POF: Approximately 65k CAD, account in naira (salary and savings account) and Swedish kronor, CAC certificate of a newly established company (late last year, with no financial transaction), a letter of support from his cousin who committed to offering her basement for our accommodation and a spare car for transportation, no properties, or assets.
Certificates: All relevant certificates and the scholarship certificate from Sweden, IELTS, CV.
Family document form: All our siblings are still in Nigeria, both sides.
IELTS
MYSELF
LOE: Corroborated our academic history, attached pictures from 2002 and recent family pics. Stated we put our funds together for hubby’s academic pursuit (because I did not make any affidavit for the lump sum I deposited in his account, but I wrote a description in the transaction, stating for “Ph.D. project support”. I mentioned how we have supported each other’s dreams and our successes in completing our masters at the same time despite we have 2 young children. I mentioned that the kids have never lived apart from either of us and we are excited that Canada is very proactive in encouraging family unity. We sha promise to leave the country when hubby’s study is done, etc
Certificates: Hubby’s admission letter and all relevant certificates, IELTS, CV
Travel history: Studied in India and returned immediately after. Yes, we mentioned that we stayed back in Sweden because we decided to put our family’s health and safety first….corona virus restrictions, etc.

Children: 7 and 4 years, we submitted the basic documents required with no extra attachment.

Above all, God’s grace prevailed. We know we couldn’t prove how we will continue to sustain ourselves, but we submitted in faith.
I wish everyone the best in this new month.

Cfine2021:
Finally, the eagle has landed. Glory be to the Most High and thanks to all the gurus in the house.

My long story goes thus;

I secured undergraduate admissions in Brandon University, University of Winnipeg and University of Manitoba but decided to apply for SP with University of Winnipeg admission letter. The timelines were as follows;

Submitted application - February 24, 2021
Submission confirmation - February 24, 2021
Biometric Request Letter - February 25, 2021
NSE Request - March 2, 2021
Biometric done and updated - March 5, 2021

I decided to go through the normal route by neglecting the NSE request. However, on 15/03/2021, I felt I should give IELTS a trial and enrolled for academic version. I also raised webform requesting to be given till 15/04/2021 to submit the IELTS result. Note that the NSE was to expire on 01/04/2021. To the glory of God, the result was exceptional LRSW- 8.5, 8.5, 8, 6.5 and I was able upload on 13/04/2021 as it appeared that they approved the extension request, though no communication to that effect.

After writing IELTS, I decided to apply to Memorial University Newfoundland since it was (IELTS) one of the requirements. The process of securing the admission was a bit rigorous but I persevered until May 31 when the final admission was given to me. With the new admission letter, I requested to change my DLI.

Upfront Medical was done and updated on May 19, 2021.

Meanwhile, I did not know that I was supposed to resubmit the application after uploading Mybank Statement and IELTS result. The status was still showing as 'Your action is Required' from 02/03/2021 when NSE request was sent till 15/06/2021 when I discovered this and resubmitted the application. I believe some people are also having similar problem.

On 17/06/2021, I received a request to complete the Custodianship form. Note that the Custodianship is required for applicant below 17years. Although, I was 16 as at 24/02/2021 when the application was submitted, I stated that I would have been 17 by September since my birthday was in June 2021 but apparently, they did not accept this submission. I was given one month to submit which expired on 17/07/2021. I was able to meet the deadline.

PPR finally showed on July 28, 2021

One remarkable thing is that I did not submit SOP since it was not stated as one of the mandatory documents and I hadn't joined this forum as at the time of application. Documents submitted include-
Father's land document
Father's salary account (Banker)
Investment documents (shares)
Others were as requested in the application portal

Please connect if you are going to MUN this fall

Hello, congratulations. Please i'm interested in MUN, my brother is seeking undergraduate admission there. We will like to start preparations. Any tips you can offer, will be well appreciated. Thank you

Hello, can a 38 old apply for bsc in Canada?

Thanks.
No!!!

If the person has a BSC or HND and Work Experience, he/she should go for a Post Graduate Certificate (PG.Cert) program related to his/her Work Experience (Job)

Good morning Nairalanders.

Please kindly come to my aid. The school I applied for just told me it will be online and if I dont receive a study permit they won't refund my fees as I will continue the study online.

Help me out with another school please. I am a Microbiology graduate with experience in quality assurance. I also have NGO volunteer work experience. Jan 2022 is my target please. A 2 year PGD course is what I seek for.
Lambton have closed all applications for 2022
Costegon have similar courses but it's majorly 1 year.
Please kindly help me as time is of the essence. Thank you please
Sorry about this development.

Unfortunately, I don't know of another 2-years program you can go for based on your Microbiology degree & Quality Assurance Work Experience.

A suggestion,

As a B.SC holder, why don't you consider a Post baccalaureate Diploma in a Microbiology Related Program

Post Baccalaureate Diploma in Food Bioscience
Dalhousie University, Nova Scotia, Canada

https://www.dal.ca/faculty/agriculture/plant-food-env/programs/post-baccalaureate-certificate-in-food-bioscience.html

Visit the link above for more details about the program, and enquire for the Admission requirements, program duration (to know if its a 2-years program) etc. from the contact e-mail address posted in the webpage of the above link.

If their response to you is good (based on what you are looking for), you can apply for the program).

i will advise, before you embark on anything, download your statement and if possible send it to them again. i am resending the statements more like a reminder and to inform them that i believe the statements with them may have been stale/over 4 months old. However, ensure it is readily available as my own intention of moving the funds is to put it in a fixed deposit instead of it just sitting in a bank account earning nothing.

Hi. If the intention is to get funded post secondary education, then it has to be an MSc because PGC are not funded.
Moreover, being a first class graduate boosts his chances of being competitive for scholarships.
I do not know about other institutions, but I know about Dalhousie University for being generous with funding to highly qualified and competitive applicants. I'm also a recipient of one of their major fundings.
Do find the link below for further information.
All the best.

Congratulations to you and your family.

Hi Honorable,

A First Class in Mech. Engineering would attract any School's Mechanical Engineering Research Lab but Graduate Scholarship Opportunities are very competitive cos he would likely be competing with more brilliant international students from other countries

NOTE
If he has obvious study gaps e.g if he graduated 2014-2016 (5-7 years study Gap), he should go for a PG. Cert in a Mechanical Engineering program based on his work experience, cos that would be easy for him to explain on his SOP and be able to convince a Visa Officer why he is going for the program.

1) Zero the mindset of "what school would give him admission easily", actually, Admissions in Canadian Universities for Graduate School is quite thorough and competitive & they don't have lots of Universities like USA. Despite having a First Class, there are some things he needs to put in place so he can be able to contain any competition from other brilliant folks like him. He shouldn't put all his eggs in one basket basket by focusing on 1 to 5 schools, most especially someone looking for scholarships, he has to be open to loads of Canadian Schools.

Note
There are little or no Scholarship for Course-based Masters degree in Canada, a Thesis-based Masters degree in MECHANICAL ENGINEERING for Fall 2022 should be his focus & he should start now cos this is the best time to prepare for Fall 2022

Since he wants to do a Masters (Thesis-based), he needs to have a MECHANICAL ENGINEERING research areas he intends working on, most especially research areas in MECHANICAL ENGINEERING he has prior research experience in (B.SC Final year project), his courses in school or his Job experience. That being said, he has to google Professors of that Research Area in Canada, read about their Publications etc. and send a non-generic, well-tailored Cold Mail to each Profs. based on each PROFS. Research Areas in MECHANICAL ENGINEERING. He can also look for Research Groups of a Particular Research Area, read about their projects , and cold mail the Team Leader/Principal Investigator (Professor) of that group, and Cold Mail him/her to show interests in his/her Research work. Let's say am a Mechanical Engineering graduate , and one of my Research interest is ADDITIVE ENGINEERING, I would go to Google & type

"Professor of Additive Manufacturing Canada"

"Additive Manufacturing Research Group Canada"

It would bring out lots of search Results directing me to Faculties of Mechanical Engineering( Professors) in Canadian Universities, from there I can read their Profile & publications, doing that would make me easily locate a Professor of Mechanical Engineering in that school who has a Research focus on ADDITIVE ENGINEERING, once am able to relate my prior research experience or a course have done in past to is Research Interest in ADDITIVE ENGINEERING, boom, I would draft my Cold Mail and send to him, once he finds me fit for his research lab, the Prof. Might decide he wanna have a Zoom or Skype interview with me (a greenlight), the essence of this is for him to know much about the Student he intend to recruit to his lab, if he is the type of Graduate student he/she is looking for and whether the student would be fit for his/her lab.
