Yes there are US component makers or spare suppliers or banks involved in T-129. Nigeria can however get waivers quite easily from the US government because of the sheer enormity of its security problems. It is a two-year procurement cycle at best and that is why US AH1 is still the best option.

It's a very big risk buying from the us. They are expensive, will use spare parts as a way to bully or coerce countries to do what they want, they degrade weapons, put kills switches in the software,....

Tanzania is both a member of SADC and the EAC. They're there as part of SADC.
If you're referring to Rwanda, they're there separately, in terms of a bilateral agreement with Mozambique.
There's a simple reason Mozambique didn't want SADC and had to be forced, and decided to invite Rwanda.

4 different commands in 1 theatre of operations is going to be a problem down the line. SADC, Rwanda, Mozambique military, and Moz police paramilitary.

Yes, Moz military and Moz police are rivals.
As an example:
1) the insurgents assassinatated the National Director of Reconnaissance of the Police Rapid Intervention Unit and took the town of Quissanga; the Moz military used this to argue they should have operational control.

2) with responsibility now shifted to the military, they promptly brought in the Russian PMC, Wagner. An opaque decision, Wagner were brutally and comprehensively defeated by the insurgents, and the port city of Mocimboa da Praca fell to the insurgents. The paramilitary police used this to argue the military were out of their depth.

3) with the police RIU back in ops command, they brought in the SA/Zimbabwean PMC Dyck Advisory Group(DAG), who, unlike Wagner, at least had experience in working in Cabo Delgado. DAG had some success in pushing back the insurgency, but with the Moz military and police not collaborating but competing, they were on a hiding to nothing. The end result? The fall of the port city of Palma - the logistics hub of the gas industry concerns of French, Italian, South African, US, Chinese, UK, Portuguese commercial interests in that order.

The fall of Palma was the proverbial straw, and SADC had had enough. The elite in Maputo could no longer prevaricate and claim to have the situation at hand.

Faced with a SADC mission they did not want - SADC has demanded a political, social and economic solution which addresses the legitimate grievances of the people in Cabo Delgado province, the kleptocracy in Maputo thought they could stall through a quick military win by inviting Rwanda.

Too many people in Pres Felipe Nyusi's circle are making too much money from smuggling out rubies, heroin from Pakistan through the ports in Cabo Delgado. The insurgents are doing exactly the same to finance their war.

I think SADC would have done extremely well if they achieve 1/3 of their aims in Moz.

Sooner or later, they'd have to do something about the commands when the bullets and blood start flowing. But like I said, its satisfy to see no country is slouching in its deployment

Need of moment is to stop/clear the free inter island movement and use of sea routes by the actors

From what little i know the numerous islands and the outlying waters must 1st be secured / cleared of actors on a priority basis

Then the actors will be limited onto the mainland, than land based ops will yield the desired results

When Mozambique hosted the African Union summit in 2003 and the World Economic Forum meeting in 2004 Indi.an navy provided security for the same .

If Mozambique requests than same can be done to secure the sea side of the affected regions

Anyways good luck to you guys and all others , hopefully situation gets managed

Same can be said about the lake Chad Islands and the whole lake region in West Africa only that it will be difficult to take and hold the islands as the lake is an inland lake and it is very remote.

AFAIK an island is relatively far easier to secure than a land base

Several well protected islands can be linked up to sustain deployment

This will cut free movement & economic exploitation of the resources by the terrorists

1st rule of fighting terrorists is to cut their finances, without money nothing happens / nothing can sustain for long

Was surprised reading that up there. Actually the reverse is the case. They have nothing on ECOWAS. Have they been impressive in deployment, I didn't expect any less at least they are professional military organizations, nothing extraordinary except this is the first of it's kind at this level by SADC something ECOWAS has had a lot of experience in doing for a long time. Much still remains to be seen.

So far the Rwandans are the combat teeth paid for by the French. South Africa should be taking the lead role in combat not Rwanda, till then there's nothing spectacular here in the SADC deployment but just showing the flag.

Unpopular Opinion.
An overall SADC commander should be appointed
He should be from South-Africa , despite Rwanda deploying first.
Most of the Logistics that can shifted at a moment’s notice will come and continue to come from S.A.
It should not take 4 voices to take Military decisions.
One voice.

In reality ECOWAS is possible because of Nigeria both in politics, diplomacy & military. Nigeria is a greater hegemon than South Africa which is why President Nyusi of Mozambique would dare call in Rwanda on a bilateral basis. That wouldn't happen in ECOWAS sub-region.

However its still expected of South Africa to take the lead in combat something they've shown intent to do going by their deployment and funding because if those terrorists by nature start getting all sorts of help from ISIS that Rwandan deployment will begin to leave a sore taste in the mouth they simply don't have the resources. The whole deployment by both Rwanda and SADC is still lacking the full compliment of adequate air cover which ECOWAS through Nigeria would have sent in.
