They know how much they'll make already.

Bearing in mind that VOD was the same $30 like D+... Every reputable movie journalist says majority of the $125 million cume was mainly from D+....
Infact, they also point out that seeing as families irrespective of number paid $30.... Disney would have generated more had it been solely theater release...But there's a caveat to this... Disney keeps much more of their revenue...
The whole streaming and box office hybrid is still in infancy....Every major studio is still trying till they discover what works best in the long run...

The article also clearly states that Majority would have come from D+.....At least 100m....VOD sales were still put at $30....I think...The point is...D+ made money from Black Widow....

And the split between Disney and other parties in this scenario is 85/15....In other words... Majority of generated revenue went to them...

like I said Disney+ was at extra cost, HBO max was at no extra cost. Hence more ppl opted for HBO max

I inferred 100m myself considering it did it's heavy streaming on D+
VOD had it at $30....Most families streamed via D+... If majority revenue came for D+....100 seems a reasonable conclusion....

Saw it's marketing cost Disney 100 mill....
Considering the movie didn't open in China and some Asian markets...The Cinema studio split in USA and Europe is much more favourable compared to the aforementioned Asian territories....The marketing and budget is covered..
Streaming is where they made a steal...

Streaming is where the money is but unfortunately, Disney won't be able to make that steal since they didn't settle the mcu actors/directors involved. That's why the likes of Shang chi and Eternals will now go to cinemas only

like I said failure is relative, if I was to go by the buzz for it and how they keep pushing it forward giving the impression it's a fantastic movie and after seeing it, it is a failure to me, [/b]I expected more from it and same complain have gotten from other ppl,[b] but by the amount it made to it's budget it's definitely not a failure almost over twice it's budget.

On VOD yes but on HBOmax the answer is no as Mortal Kombat is still the most watched movie on HBOmax, followed by the suicide squad.
