@p. desmond
u cannot work and study in Germany with your resident p
from Netherlands..they've their own laws in Germany and it is
quite different frm Netherlands.

U don't need a visa to study in German universities if you're a
student in Netherlands, you only need to go to the German embassy
in Hague and apply for your resident permit for you to be eligible
to study in Germany.

@ Demaejy,

Thanks for your information, please i wish to know what you think about me paying the Financial Guarantee of 13000 Euros to the netherlands university that offered me Admission, their tuition fee is 7,500 Euros per year, i know its costly but its because of the Visa assurance that i intend going for it. Do you know if the Denmark Embassy is strict also and what's their refusal rate coz i also got Acceptance Letter from them.

@Fili24, thank you lots, you have been most helpful, please hope i won't be needing to prove the 1.6m in german acc before i will be given a Resident Permit to study. Also what do you think about my above question. God bless you all.

@p.Desmond,

Let me advice you as a fellow Nigerian living in europe and in the schenghen region.

If you want to spend money on school in europe, i think it is more difficult with Bachelors degree than for a Masters degree. so if only i know what programme you are going for then my advise could be more specific.

But lets start this way, what are you going to study (course)? Bachelors or Masters?
Re: How Easy Is Getting Admission Into Netherlands Univeristies And Visa by pdesmond1(m): 9:28pm On Apr 02, 2012
@Yemmy, thank you for reply. I intend studying information technology or Advanced Sensor Application (Bachelors) i chose Netherlands not because they are good but because of their MVV Visa guarantee, because i hate Visa crisis and difficulty. But i intend transfering to another cheaper University anywhere within the Schengen once the Tuition fee is cheap like i heard Austria is 400 Euros per year or thereabouts. Please do advise me in details.

@P.desmond,

At least you have done the right things by not asking questions on how to go about application and all. All those things can be very tiring to answer. Now that your issue is about the country where you can study and probably make a living, well here it goes.

The countries in europe that you are able to combine these two things easily are:

Germany
Finland,
Denmark,
Norway
Sweden
Austria
Netherlands
France - Not too sure about their work requirement for foreign students

You would notice i have limited your choice of countries to these ones. This is because these economies are still running well compared to Italy, Belgium, Spain and so on.

So lets take it one after the other.

Germany - Best European economy, very good education, not difficult to find jobs and low unemployment rate. Ofcourse the education is closer to free. The visa, should not be a problem, just go about the information on their embassy website and do exactly what is there, don't add don't subtract.

Finland - Studies is free, the economy is good but they are stopping admission to students from developing countries. This is the situation for this year and probably for years to come. so forget about it.

Austria - Not so much options for bachelors in english. So it is a no no

France - Reallý don't know much about it and have never been. But i guess you can find out more yourself.

Netherlands - As i can imagine, you have done your research concerning tuition and my intuition tells me its on the high side. Since you cannot afford to pay for the entire duration of your bachelors, there is no point risking it. Even though their visa is guaranteed since it is issued in partnership with the school. IF you can afford it, go there but forget about supporting your school fees with work you do there.

Norway - Good country with possibility of part time job, but no studies for bachelors in English even though masters is free

Denmark - I bet you already know tuition is expensive also in Denmark. the only good side to Denmark is that you can work as a student part time and make some money but is it enough to pay your other school fees? not sure of that but you will be very comfortable with the earnings from part time job suppose you are not paying tuition.

Sweden - Tuition is now high and not guaranteed you will get a job.

If you were my brother, i will tell him to do this. (Remember, visa application is not hard work, it is just doing the normal things asked by the immigration)

1. I will choose to attend a country with cheap tuition, for instance, czech? Poland? estonia? and so on... (make sure it is in schenghen)
2. I will apply for an exchange period after my first year. Most exchanges last for 1 semester up to 1 year. Exchange period is free.
3. I will transfer my studies to my exchange school and not return to the home institution. Completely legal and you are just been smart
4. I will earn my degree from my desired country of study.

Now did you see the logic? It is not a difficult thing to do. Since you have some money to utilize for this purpose, you will pay the tuition fee for that country where you first start your studies and live with the money you have with you or better if you can find some job to pay the bills.

That way you have some money to keep for your ultimate plan.

My brother will do exactly what i listed in those steps and end my studies in Germany. Why Germany? Very good place to live and work, free tuition, and learn from the best!

Hope this helps. But remember just my opinion.

@Yemmy,

Thank you so very much for your reply. I went through your information with great concentration. I want you to know that i just applied for ONLY Netherlands University and Denmark University. So i don't know how to start going about the Preparation since Deadline is fast approaching. Please what do you think since i can Afford my first year expenses and tuition fee what do you think if i decide to change over to Germany after the first year and continue from there. The reason why i thought so is because Germany is requesting 1.6m in a German Blocked Account. Am intending to enter the Netherlands and then transfer after the first year. I will then decide to stay back in Germany. That's what i thought. Please what do should i decide?

I know someone who studied in Finland as an exchange student from Thailand and stayed in Finland thereafter. He got married there. So it is a world of possibilities. Depending on the route you take.

Yes, if you have your money for the first year tuition and personal expenses, i will advice you to take the leap to Netherlands. I just love the country so much to see and their education is top notch. (Amsterdam is amazing) smiley

But remember you have to be proactive when you are in both countries and look for opportunities in each of these countries. Don't just put your mind on the fact that you want to transfer to Germany, living in Europe should not be treated with such levity.

If you eventually go to Germany for exchange, you make sure you ask how you can transfer your studies to your visiting university from the middle of the semester. But make sure you first look for schools that have a one year exchange period with your school in the Netherlands, that way you are more acquainted with the German school and then your visiting faculty can also expedite such process if they like you especially if you impress them academically.

NB - Some schools policy is that you study for two years before you go on exchange and some at the end of 1st year. So tread carefully to know if you can go at the end of first year.

sorry for replying late, i'm always busy during the week
i think yemmy gave a good advice, if u intend moving to
Germany after ur 1st yr, pls try cheaper countries like Czech, Poland, or
maybe Slovakia...countries within the schengen region

@ yemmy mentioned Estonia :- No Estonia embassy in Nigeria

Also its not a good thing to put all your money in one place
like u said u have the money for 1st yr in Netherlands..but there are
still many things u need to consider.

u will definitely need money to process ur transfer to Germany
there are many students who are stranded here in Europe, because
they fail to plan b4 coming.
Re: How Easy Is Getting Admission Into Netherlands Univeristies And Visa by fili24: 3:55pm On Apr 03, 2012
@yemmy
Germany is a nice place to work and study, but u cannot skip the blocked account
Its in their law..even if u go there as an exchange student.

U definitely need to show u have the 1.6m in ur personal acc b4 they grant u a
resident p.

NB: U cannot marry in Germany, U can only have kids
if u eventually get a German lady, U can only marry her
in ur home country.

U can get married in other European countries but the laws are changing now.

Yea, i know all of these, but i only guessed he knew about the blocked account already so i say i skipped it. because Norway has same.
The more reason i told that he should look for opportunities in both Nethelands and Germany. For instance if he gets a girl in Netherlands then why should he go to Germany anymore?
Re: How Easy Is Getting Admission Into Netherlands Univeristies And Visa by pdesmond1(m): 7:00pm On Apr 03, 2012
@Yemmy & Fili24, jeez you guys are good brothers to me thank you. Please there is something that i really need you guys to assist me consider. Since i don't need stories in terms of VISA because i don't want to loose another year that's the reason why i was going for Netherlands because the school immigration officer personally assured me that i must receive my Visa before mid August against september starting course.

That's the ONLY main reason why am going for Netherlands, i applied to Denmark but they told me point clear that am totally responsible for my Visa and its outcome. So i respectably left it.

@Fili, you made mention that i must have 1.6m in my account even if am transfering from Netherlands after one year? I thought that requirement are for those coming for the first year and that after the first year you won't be required such proof. Netherlands require atleast 6,000 Euros from the student for the academic first year, but after the first year the student can then pay have the money paid in from his or her sponsor on monthly bases via his or her monthly upkeep.

Please i can only go for Netherlands because i have already received my A-Form, Immigration Form, Resident Permit Application (VVR), e.t.c my processing is pending the reception of the required. 13,000 Euros. Am some Ђδω confused. What should i do?
Re: How Easy Is Getting Admission Into Netherlands Univeristies And Visa by fili24: 10:01pm On Apr 03, 2012
@p. desmond
you still don't understand the rules in Europe
for you to study legally in Germany, you must apply for
the German resident permit card.

Your card from the Netherlands allows u to travel freely
but u cannot study and work with it in Germany. For u to
be a legal student in Germany you MUST apply for the
German resident card.

Transferring to Germany permanently means ur Netherlands permit
will be CANCELLED.

However, if u try to go as an exchange student, u'r only
allowed to study for 1 semester, and have in mind that ur
University must have an agreement with the University in Germany.
Exchange is an agreement btw two or more Universities which allows
the students to transfer their credits for 1 semester.
Re: How Easy Is Getting Admission Into Netherlands Univeristies And Visa by fili24: 10:05pm On Apr 03, 2012
@p. desmond go ahead and make the payment
try to get the Netherlands visa first, cos time is
not on ur side.

Germany is not the only tuition free country in Europe
There are also tuition free Universities in France but
people don't know.

@yemmy,
Please kindly shed more light on that german blocked account.can the money be withdrawal by the student immediately he get to germany?
Or how will the student get the money back?
Re: How Easy Is Getting Admission Into Netherlands Univeristies And Visa by pdesmond1(m): 1:18am On Apr 04, 2012
@Fili,

Thank you for your reply. The School gave their Payment deadline as July 1st but i will be making the Payment by middle of May or thereabouts once the money is together.

Please you talked about transfer credit and 1 semester, does that mean that i can only study for 1 semester before going back? The University here in Netherlands are having Bachelors for 4 years duration. I don't mind leaving the Netherlands to a tuition free or cheap University to start afresh after loosing 1 year. Need your suggestions.
Re: How Easy Is Getting Admission Into Netherlands Univeristies And Visa by yemmyma: 11:07am On Apr 04, 2012
p.desmond,

I studied in europe and i told you what you can do about the exchange. Read again:

1. Xchange period is usually for one semester, in some cases the agreement is two. Also in some cases the student can extend it upon asking the visiting school.
2. Try look for exchange (two semesters) with one year period when you are in Netherlands. This will make it easier for you to transfer to the school if your department/faculty can help facilitate it. You only transfer your ECTS credits from your home institution to your visiting institution afterwards.
3. In Germany, you also need money in a blocked account that you can only withdraw every month a limited amount. I don't know if you can do anything about that, but only people in Germany can tell you that.
4. Apply for studies in these cheap countries, Czech, Poland and the likes. Try see if you can get their visa, if possible, go to those. You will save a whole lot of money by the time you go to Germany and will have the money also in your blocked account.

If you put yourself into too much confusion, you won't do anything. Just do what we advised and i am sure you will be fine.
