Spare us this nonsense already. The country is in crisis and it isn't only doctors that are suffering the pain.

Every sector is affected except the political class.

Students in Nigeria spent next to nothing to be trained as a doctor. In fact, some were absorbed into civil service schemes grade 9 in their state while studying.

They want the world to given to them because they studied medicine? You ask you to? I don tire to dey hear this, walahi

Go and slave there and spare us this horsesh.t. For, they would soon join the league of the super rich. Abi?

Why is it that only the doctors are on strike because they are allegedly being neglected by the government? Are doctors the only employees in the health sector?

Valid points!
BigJakie:
Nigeria as a country never rewards the effort of hardwork. Only nepotism thrives which is why there’s high level of incompetence in almost every sector.

I wonder what will happen when teachers narrate their own tales of woes.
The average salary for teachers in Nigeria is #30 000 in this economy while some earn #15 000 - #25 000.

If our doctors are so good and are highly needed abroad , what the government need to do is to invest in our hospitals. Improve our hospital facilities and give the doctors better emolument. If that is done, Europeans and others will come to Nigeria for medical aids.
We have some of the best doctors , but Buhari and others prefer to go for treatment in Europe because of their facilities.
Our leaders are cursed with a heavy curse .
Right now Buhari just returned from medical leave and Tinubu is still in abroad.
Who do us this ?
Make them just sell this country and give me my share

Doctors can be the new source of foreign exchange if the govt can look deeper.
Every year in the universities more than enough qualified students for medicine are forced into other departments because the quota for medicine is 150 at max.
You'll see people with hyper impressive grades forced into other departments..
It won't take much for the FG to invest in the medical sector and improve the quota of every universities to 500.
That way we'll have much more exports and also more private hospitals at lesser rates.

Doesn’t make sense. The fact of the matter and in a bit of fairness to government on this situation. U can’t compare these bigger countries economy to ours. The bigger the economy the higher the standard of living and this translates into civil service pay grade and private companies salary structures.

Even if doctors case should be specifically looked into it’s can’t be a huge increase like what we have in these bigger countries unless the health sector can generate its own revenue to sustain its increased welfare. Health care is largely funded from other profitable sectors and support from international bodies and NGO.

What I can clearly be upset about is owing salary even under such poor pay compared to their international counterparts.

Funny enough nurses have been leaving also way b4 now.

I am happy they found better working conditions outside here.
We know our government don't care if all of them leaves. But they should not forget it cost them little to get medical education here, compared to some of the countries they now ply their trade. So they should not hesitate to extend free medical support to Nigerians when they have extras

You are happy abi...

Very soon we wld go back to native doctors when all the medical doctors have left the shores of Nigeria for greener pastures.

True , country is in a chaos but for once , we must speak the truth , if the medical education is that easy , why them no go Learn medicine for this same Dubai they're rushing to work ?

Call a spade a spade , they're swindling the govt and I think it's high time govt should stop funding medicine in federal schools.
So because they paid peanuts to get trained as a Doctor, after 10 years of study..

They should be contented with being paid peanuts, after 15 years of service to the nation?

so because they pay less for their training as compared to their mates abroad means they should suffer and die abi? Why not do a comparison between our politicians and their mates abroad too. Doctors who are exposed to various kind of diseases, virus and germs on a daily basis are not duly compensated as compared to politicians who just go there and sit. Doctors hazard allowance is 5k per month but hardship allowance of politicians is in the hundreds of thousand if not million per month. So when you compare do that intelligence.

You are right Philippine nurses are all over the world. It is another source of foreign earnings

Can u pls tell us condition of healthcare system in Philippines?
All citizens are entitled to free healthcare under the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth). The scheme is government-controlled and funded by local and national government subsidies, as well as by contributions from employers and employees.
FG is not ready.

I took the time to read through the article, I am wondering what the government need to do. But as if I don't know, you see so long as political office holders continue their medical jamboree outside the country things will never change.

But on the other hand, there is the issue of the subsidy on the cost of going through the medical school in Nigeria. That on one side, the Doctors should also consider the health of Nigerians.

Like one chap suggested above, Nigeria can utilize the opportunity to produce more doctors and export them but they should also be willing to give back to the nation the money they've been given in Nigeria during their medical school years when the cost of their schooling was subsidized

It's not just Doctors though, Soon Nigeria will start loosing IT fellas in masses too. It's already happening, but soon it will become to much to handle. They will rather pay politicians fat salaries and unnecessary allowances than develop the country and make it conducive for habitation. They will soon start being at the mercy of aggrieved Nigerian Doctors when they travel out for medical attention. And all it will take is just an intentional wrong medication.

Stupidity is when you compare a country(Nigeria) with a GDP per capita of $2,000 with that of anther country with GDP per capita over $22,000

Saudi with population of just about 20 million, still earns more than 40 times in oil revenue, than Nigeria with over 200 million!

Comparing the GDP per capita,we can see that Nigeria is not doing badly in terms of salary.

The earliest we face the reality ,the better for all of us!

Nigeria does not have the required revenue yet !!!!

May GOD prosper Nigeria.
