RiceProducers: True, but there are trade offs. Firstly there are certain fixed costs associated with subs like the Shore based Sub Support facility. Smth like Kings Bay Naval Sub Base in Georgia for the USN Tridents allowing for loading of stores, repair and maintenance under a roof allowing submerging and berthing away from nosy satellites. In typical American style its HUGE! A small (by US standards) town of 15 k spread out over 6500 ha. Expect the infrastructure to include facilities like several 50 T hydraulic hoists, 5 axis CNCs like this for precision repair and manufacture of extremely low tolerance parts and spares for the propulsion and/or weapons sytems. Escape training tanks like this https://youtu.be/QnFXS29ExrM not to mention cold stores, armouries and health facilities from gyms to dentistries and hospitals. The large 5 axis CNC starts at 500 k$. All under roofs with the docking bay on the beach to allow berthing. Minimum of 2 TRVs, Torpedo Recovery Vessels like the Indian Astravahini. I can't find a price but its MUCH smaller than a 300 ft OPV about the size of a Damen Stan around 130 ft. Such size vessels start at around 40 mn$ and you'd need at least 2. L&T Defence midget submarine SOV400 The SoKors have the Dolgorae class. 175 tonnes (172 long tons) full loadhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolgorae-class_submarine Imo,midget subs won't fit in financially or tactically. Spending a 100 mn $ minimum to carry a couple of SEALS and/or 3 or 4 torps within the Gulf of Guinea doesn't make sense. For a starter sub I'd go for the French Andrasta at 150 mn $ and 3 mn $ yearly op cost.. Type Submarinehttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrasta-class_submarine Learn sub ops and develop doctrines. After a decade scale up with 350 mn $ Kilos. In my rough estimate the cost of the ShBaSuSuFa and all equipment and buildings alone should be minimum 500 mn $. 8 Likes

Whyem15: G-A-S-S-S-P-P!? I long suspected Fulani leaders involvement in extortion, cattle rustling and crime that morphed into BH. The lecturer, however, blamed politicians for the rising profile of armed banditry in the state, saying the first attack in the state was made with motorcycles donated by politicians. I UNDERSTAND the secessionist sympathies among certain Southerners though imo it's EXTREMELY misplaced. Some members within the groups were notoriously associated with weapon suppliers. Alhaji Altine, Shehu Rekep in Zamfara and Musa Yellow Janbross in Kaduna used their international connections. Through their contacts across the Sahel, particularly Libya and Mali, they supply arms, which were ferried across the ever-increasing porous borders located in the northwest These are the same MOFOS invading farms in the South! Who here has operated with airforce ground forces/sf, how effective is their training in terms of tactics and how sound are they? Are the training realistic in enough to make them understand how easy you can get killed if you loose your nerves under fire and is this drilled in them, and in what scenarios are live bullets used during their drills? I ask this, because during contacts/ operations they seem to loose high number of personnel compared to the navy SBS, infact the SBS has a reputation of getting job done with minimal casualties, and I have seen a bit of their training, in SBS training you can easily get killed if you flinch, because you are given a task to accomplish under live fire, we are talking bullets hitting 2 fleets from you during training. 8 Likes |

Tobiloba24072: Their training are very different. Most of those we call airforce SF are in actual fact SOF trained particularly in base protection and well constructed air bases at that. A good example is the NAF panthers, they will definitely perform poorly outside of their area of specialization and training. |

NewDelhi: LOL, there is a reason reason the casualties of the army has been very low in cases like this, it's because they've learnt and know when to withdraw from poorly constructed bases that cannot be easily defended and could be easily recaptured. You know absolutely nothing about the circumstances surrounding the attack yet you are already passing judgements. How many men were at the base when it was attacked, how many enemies attacked the base? You expect these men to be performing miracles and being victorious in every encounter no matter the odds against them? Abeg rest. 10 Likes 1 Share |

Whyem15: They have air force regiment, who function as basic infantry that handle base defense and other air force security functions , supposedly higher trained than regular infantry, then they have their air force Panthers, which is the SF. Both have been deployed.....both are claimed to have very high standards, but the level of casualties has made me curious, what is wrong ? What could be the solution, that's why I asked if anyone has worked with them before. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Tobiloba24072: SBS cannot be compared to NAF panther, them no be mate. And secondly you need to factor in the number of engagement NAF panther get every year. When you factor that in, you'll realize the casualty level is very very low. |

ugo4u: You are equally a victim of the nonsense you are defending, despite your years here, are you saying you don't know Nigerian Navy has ground units? What is wrong in training a ground unit in Kano when all the Amphibious units are littered down south? why should it matter if its in South or north? I know most Nigerians have mental issues, pls stop making yours very obvious. 6 Likes 1 Share |
