I have been having it in my mind to have this discussion on Nairaland for a while now considering the stories of infidelity and paternity fraud redolent in contemporary Nigerian familial discourse. I first heard of the case of chimerism, a condition where a person has more than one DNA when samples are taken from different parts of the body, some years back. At that time, Nigerian media was not as obsessed with cases of infidelity as it is now so I didn't think it mattered much. But recently, with the growing cases of gender bashing evident on Nairaland and other social discussions I have with Nigerians, I am beginning to think it might be important to bring it up.

With many young men swearing to do DNA tests on all their children and some even going as far as killing their spouses and even the children on the slightest suspicion, something has been urging me to throw this out there because it seems not many people know that it's possible, though rare, for a father to not match with his actual children sometimes. I have been ignoring the ever-present urge to bring it here because it's likely going to lead to more gender bashing and no meaningful discourse but just today I received a YouTube notification on one of my beloved channels that covers this topic well. So now I am beginning to think this knowledge might save a life or a home and feel compelled to discuss it here.

How many of the health facilities that carry out these DNA tests do their due diligence? Do we even know the percentage of occurrence of chimerism in Nigeria?
How many innocent women has been abused, punished or even killed without having any way or knowledge to defend themselves?

This doesn't mean that most women don't cheat though. We are all cheats. Both genders do so. But the suspicion of paternity fraud using DNA tests as irrefutable evidence is so high now that I feel this information should help the few innocent women.

The first video below is one of the ones I watched years back. The second one is the one I watched today.

True.

However, it is 99.9 per cent accurate most times.

The problem I have with this assertion is that you haven't provided any evidence to show this. First we have to establish the percentage of occurrence of chimerism in the Nigerian population. Unfortunately we are bad at keeping records in Nigeria and even worse at doing and accepting proper research that goes against our prejudice.

Could it be that because most women are dependent on their husbands and do not have the financial might to contend the claims, it's possible that they just accepted their fate and "left everything to God" as most Nigerians are wont to do in the face of insurmountable challenges?

Could it also be that because the women have actually cheated on their husbands before, albeit carefully, they are unable to contest the DNA report since they themselves consider it to be irrefutable?

I am just curious.

I beg to differ.

Any woman who was wrongly accused will fight it out.

It turns out that most times the reverse is the case.

I see your point. And it's a very strong one. But indulge me for a moment.

Do tell me how you expect a woman to fight out glaring DNA evidence probably requested by herself maybe for like the second time, which was done in a different location but still shows that the husband isn't the father of her kids? Even her family members do not believe her again and some might even start asking her to stop disgracing them. How is she supposed to fight in such a situation if she has neither the knowledge, like the one I just shared, nor the resources to continue to clear her name?

If she didn't do otherwise, she will fight for it. I have seen a woman fight for a hoax result from her husband to test her.

After she swore to her husband no other man has seen her, she vowed to retake the test he provided and sued the old hospital who was trying to ruin her marriage with their inadequacies.

But you see what is happening today? Many women are not even sure whose child it is because at a point, they may have cheated.

Some people who had the complications, the children were actually for the husband but adultery at the back of their minds in so so so time cannot let them add it up.

I do not mean all women cheat. I mean those who do. Of course, some men cheat too.

I can see your reasoning is shallow. No wonder you bumped into my other comment. You kids should grow up and learn to think before making comments. You in particular will be dangerous to Nigeria if you hold a public position. The youths of these days....mehn! What do you have in your brains? Yet the boldness you attack posts amazes me. Yet, pounded yam na ee full those brains. cheesy

Look at this immature kid that can't defend his positions on other threads but quickly seek out unrelated threads to express his frustrations. What a joke of a boy. It takes an expectionally puerile mind to quickly turn a disagreeing opinion into a fight lol. Haven't seen so much frustration in one person before. Must be a sad life you have.

Everyone look at the thread that made PeaceJoyLove lose his mind: https://www.nairaland.com/6760557/aukus-france-calls-boris-johnson/2#105957329

Because I called out his warped logic. He just lost his mind because he couldn't answer my counter to his claims and he was so pained he came here to seek a thread of mine to post meaningless gibberish on. Follow that and see how he lost his cool for no reason cheesy cheesy

OP...
Please do your research well...
It is possible for an individual to have multiple DNA (micro chimerism), but it's very unlikely for it to affect paternity test...

DNA tests cross reference samples together, for instance a child's genetic make up with that of an alleged father, it is this comparison that draws a conclusion whether or not a man is likely to be the father of the child. The higher the match the more likely the result is to be positive

I am guessing you didn't watch any of the videos I posted up there. An example of it affecting a partenity/maternity test is in one of those videos. But I see your point though.
