A serving female member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) identified as Oluwale Abidemi was crushed to death by a tipper in Benin City, Edo State.

According to IgbereTV reports, the fatal accident occurred along the busy Airport Road by suburban Ogba River bridge on Wednesday, September 22.

IgbereTV gathered that the tipper which was said to be conveying sand had a brake failure and ran into a Lexus Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) before hitting a commercial motorcycle conveying a woman and the serving corps member.

The woman sustained life-threatening injuries while the deceased Corps member whose remains have since been deposited at an unknown mortuary died right on the spot.

Spokesperson of the Edo State Police Command, DSP Kotongs Bello said the accident happened at about 12:30 pm.

"Today, about 12:30 pm, a tipper carrying sand failed brake at Ogba bridge and ran into a Lexus SUV and a motorbike," he stated.

"The motorbike was conveying one Mrs Maria who was badly injured and now receiving treatment at the Central Hospital, Benin and a youth corps member who was said to be the sister of Maria, died on the spot.”

Benin is the most lawless state in terms of Obeying traffic rules, the same yesterday a bus and Tipper collided at Ogbelaka Junction 11 persons died in that accident, this Tipper drivers needs serious caution on how they run in busy road is not funny anymore

Once again. Edo State, notably the capital Benin City seems to be lawless.

These tipper drivers (and commercial drivers) brainlessly speed towards crowded areas, then blame brake failure when events happen.
These very people with a good number of commercial drivers do not obey traffic rules or traffic (EDSMA and police) officials.
Reason: no strict, punitive measure in place.

Two days in a row, people have been killed by tipper drivers in Benin City.

Meanwhile, the state of majority of the roads can only be described as appalling. You can imagine large vehicles driving recklessly on such roads.
Where this particular accident occured was at a narrowed part of the airport road (one of the best roads in Benin) before a narrow bridge which is an environmental risk.
