The food price will still continue to be rise for some time as most of the abundant agricultural products we used to import have been banned. And currently, we have few people making the products hence high price. By the time more people join the business, there would be competition with the price

it will for some time. This is because we are yet to reach full sufficiency in food production. A ban on import on certain agro products caused the price rise. Till we are able to produce enough food that we consume, it will keep rising for a while. For now, only those in the rural areas are farming with the old known methods. We need a full fledged mechanized farming system to boost food production. That can cater for every single person in the country.

Get into agriculture and make money. Money der agriculture. I am a living testimony.

Meaning at this rate, we are doomed to rising cost of foodstuff for the next 10 years because the population keeps rising and terrorists are not allowing farmers access their farms.

Who would fund the mechanized farming equipments for the local farmer?

food prices have been rising ever since 2015, for how long will the prices continue rise?
Have enough persons not joined the production of food coupled with the various govt agric intervention sufficient to bring the price down?

Great job!! Cocoa is coming back as a top forex earner and probably explains the high IGR in the SW states like Oyo and Osun. Kudos to all the Patriots, especially to the farmers ,the hardworking patriotic CBN Governor,Mr Emefiele, and his team at CBN for your intervention in the agricultural industry . Please don't relent and don't allow them to frustrate you. You will overcome even the current challenges posed by currency speculators and those supporting the unpatriotic actions of the currency speculators because they hate President Muhammadu Buhari and/or they are benefiting from the unpatriotic currency speculators.

In the same country where some are cursing themselves and lamenting online, some are idling away online, some hoarding dollars to create scarcity and resell at profit and some actively enabling capital flight by using naira to buy cryptocurrency hosted in foreign nations , these patriotic farmers ignored all the negative people, toiled hard and today bringing in high amount of forex into the country. God bless them. This is a proof that you don't need to steal from government or be a drug trafficker or internet fraudster to earn USD. Agriculture is doing it for these farmers big time!

We should start looking at investing in the value chains of these agricultural products so we can export less of the raw produce and more of the finished products from the raw materials e.g export chocolate instead of cocoa beans.

If you are considering going into agriculture, these data can give you a clue on where to pitch your tent. You can produce the raw agriculture produce or manufacturer finished products from the raw materials or provide logistics to support these emerging and thriving forex earning agricultural produce.

These are audio we know.
It is not too difficult to know if we are earning more forex now. Even a blind man can see this.
Agriculture has been DESTROYED by this Buhari regime by their bokoharam friends. Nobody can go to any farm again. I want to believe Agric goods that are exported are initially imported and then exported back.

Your analysis is not balanced. Go to the market in the southwest, check the foodstuffs people are buying to eat in their houses, then tell me if it is cocoa or not.

The north produces the food we eat in Nigeria. If they decided to export all for foreign cash like cocoa, starvation will hit entire South.

The ineptitude of our Nigerian leaders is what result to our underdevelopment and not religion. Southwest has reasonable Muslim population, does that make them docile? How far does other African countries not dominated by Muslims fares? Religion does not hampers development please.
All I could draw from your post is that...religion doesn't hamper development...just they way they've made it so in the north. Of course, they produce foodstuffs for local consumption but are they export worthy ? What happened to groundnut and cotton? How many people consume yam or onions globally? Cocoa is more marketable in the international market than those foodstuffs you mentioned same with cotton and groundnuts. Instead of their leaders harping on developing the region by sending their children to school and awarding scholarships so they can go and learn how to grow improved groundnuts and cotton yields, they rather put all their eggs in one basket of religious studies. If you read my comment to internalise, you'd have seen where I said down south especially in the south west and south south, our forefathers counterbalanced religion and education as against the one-way traffic of the North and the result is what we see all over the place today.

It's a sad news. We should rather develop the value chain for these top exports and earn more from the point of harvesting to finished products derived from these commodities.

Our import of finished products won't come down as long as we still export largely raw commodities and we are sold the many finished products from these same items at a higher price to what we earned from it

Always, it is this blaming games again and again for lazy people, so the military stopped you and others from farming like others farming.
We never stopped from cocoa farming, we'd have fared better had the successive government from the independence didn't ruin it. Go grab the book of history and read about Nigerian economy from 1960 till date. The little rise you saw in the export trade brought about by cocoa was the resilience on the part of our people. That means a lot because it will boost our foreign exchange earnings. You can imagine if this had been encouraged from the world go. By now we've have gone far as a nation.

The yam and other produce which the north produce or grow are for lagos consumption and some parts of ogun. Go to other states in the south west whether you'd find one single hausa man wheeling wheelbarrow full of yam or vegetables for sale. He would eat it by himself because nobody would buy it. Other states in the south west are self-sustaining on agric produce. They still transport some to the same lagos. The only area where we're lagging behind is on cattle rearing. We still depend on them for beef but if our people can look inwards they can do even better .

As you may have noticed importation has been receiving the heat with high importation fee and custom duty fee, it is intentional. The government wants you to do the opposite of importing.

And guess what you DON'T need to be an agricultural product producer before you can start EXPORTATION. Send me a WhatsApp message now and I will get you started!

I didn't find cow, groundnuts, hides and skin, cotton, millet or tomatoes instead the it was dominated by food commodities that are largely grown across Southern Nigeria. Yet these malos always claim they're feeding everyone and how agriculture is the most dominate contributor to GDP due to North.

Northern Nigeria is not just a liability on us but parasites feeding on us. Despite all these, they still call the shots and threat Southerners like second class citizens.
