I think what Pioli meant was when you cross the halfway line with the ball, you can't play it back into your own half. Like in basketball. This means players are encouraged or in this case forced to come up with attacking solutions and not just pass the ball all the way back when they run out of ideas. Adding a shot clock would also spice things up. Say, 15s to get the ball out, and 45s to attempt a shot. Again, like in basketball You can imagine the excitement that such open, end-to-end games would generate.

In Basketball, I can attempt a shot when I can't pass. In football, it's difficult.

The courts in BB are also smaller, which makes moving the ball around easier. It's not the same for football.

I don't see how passing the ball back makes a team defensive. It's still part of a strategy in football.

I think football has been more attacking minded lately. We have seen full backs create chances in our generation. Some full backs have decent goal ratios too.

With Pioli's strategy, counter attacks won't even be possible. When a team loses the ball, there would be like 5 players sitting behind to defend. Even full backs would stay put to defend.

I'd like to see him try it out in his next match though. Even though he may lose, I'm interested in how many goals he would get out of this strategy

Times are changing and football needs to evolve as well. I'm not surprised at the disapproval shared by many people on the point he raised. Football has always been stubborn and slow to accept change.

The one i really want to see get implemented is 0 points for the teams that play out a goalless draw in a league game. People pay money and spend their time to watch a game only to see you run around for 90 mins without scoring a single goal. That is unpardonable in my book. No football game should ever end in a goalless draw. Never!
