In the game I watched yesterday, creativity wasn't the main issue, but rather we were mostly unlucky in the box, thanks to a dogged and rugged defence. Saying creativity is the issue, is just looking for what to say. We did not play badly at all. But majority of you guys here only judge with goal and nothing else. CAR was just lucky. We can can still score them up to four goals with that same tactic. All it takes is a little more composure and seriousness in attack.

For ur mind, u don say sensible thing! Clap for urself! How many passes came from the midfield? If i were to be the coach of any team, i will beat ur super chicken anyday any time!
However, we must still think of new ways to destabilize a stubborn defence, especially when it is taking too long to score.

Score them four goals without shot on target?

The chance they scored yesterday, they had that same kind of opportunities over twice and they were not coordinated enough to get it done and they would have missed the last too but for some stroke of luck.

They were in a position to win us with more than a goal margin yesterday.

Central African Republic head coach Raoul Savoy is delighted with his side’s historic victory over the Super Eagles in FIFA World Cup qualifiers on Thursday.

The Wild Beats stunned the three-time African champions at home in a matchday encounter at the Teslim Balogun Stadium.

A 91st-minute goal from Karl Namnganda, substitute gave the tiny African their first win of the qualifying campaign and handed Nigeria their first defeat in the process.

In his post-match presser, Raoul Savoy explained how his boys managed to get the unexpected result.

“We stood by them and know that if we cut them off and don’t allow them to be quick then we’ve got a chance. It’s a very great result for us.

“I’m very happy because we put in a strategy and it worked. And when you put in a strategy and have young players, because we have young players in our team, who listen and put their heart in, they can beat anyone.”
He said.

A coach that had strategy, knew how we played and adopted a strategy that will minimise our advantages against them but we had a strategy to only hoof the ball.

If hoofing the ball strategy wasn't working as seen in the first half, why not change or tweak the strategy to see if you can get a result.

Nigeria 0-1 CAR: 2 Errors Gernot Rohr Committed Against The Central African Republic

Super Eagles of Nigeria suffered their first defeat in their 2022 World Cup Qualifying campaign against the Central African Republic this evening.

The three times African champions lost 1-0 in the match that was played at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.

Karl Namganda scored the only goal of the game in the 90th minutetime to seal the win for the Central African Republic

The victory also ended Nigeria's unbeaten run in the qualification stage of the qualifiers.

Meanwhile we would be looking at three mistakes the Technical Adviser of the Super Eagles committed that resulted in the defeat against the low rated side.

1. Inability to read his opponent tactics: from what we have seen in the game, it appears the coach didn't have a clear understanding of the Central African Republic side. Perhaps he might have thought his team would have the game easy.

2. Late introduction of Ahmed Musa: The team's captain was introduced into the game less than 20 before before the end of the match. Musa came on to replace Joe Aribo who was ineffective at the front. Immediately Musa came on board, we saw how he caused a lot of troubles for the Central African Republic defense. Early introduction of Musa would have changed the story.

What other error do you think the coach made that caused the defeat? Kindly share your thoughts below the comments section.

I really don't understand your point. Are you saying you are yet to watch a meaningful game from a team that plays negatively or are you saying you are yet to watch an offensive team play meaningfully when the opposing team is playing negatively?

In either respect, there are loads of team that packed buses against Spain and Spain put up some brilliant performances against them.

I have never been a fan of negative game so o can not site instances where a negative team played well.
The bolded Joe. Negative football affects both sides. That's the truth no?

How many chances was created for Taiwo and Oshimen yesterday from the midfield?

Good u analyse football with reason,
How many passes came from the 10 role or direct shots from the midfield

We talk about Iwobi been missed reason because of his passes upfront and weak shots that some times get into the back of the net
Understand that creativity isn't always "defence splitting pass" and stop feeling attacked. Kilode

Reasons why we found it difficult against Central African Republic

We played to their strategic strength.
Their plan was to keep it compact at the back and cut off our comfort on the ball on the middle.

Unfortunately, Rhor set up the team to play a direct pattern which favored their strategy. The direct pattern meant we committed more players forward, with few players to help build.

What this meant is that our direct play was to their brick wall and when they pressed the middle, we had few players for coordinated build up play.

Why Gernot Rohr Should Have Chosen His Words Carefully After Super Eagles Loss To The Wild Beast

To whom much is given, much is also expected in return. After losing to the wild Beast of Central African Republic, the Super Eagles Gaffer was caught putting blames on some situations that were responsible for Nigeria's loss in the FIFA 2022 World Cup qualifier, in his post match interview.

In an interview with Goal, the German tactician revealed that the Super Eagles Team missed Alex Iwobi's creativity and Wilfred Ndidi's Midfield magic. He stressed that, the absence of these key Players was no doubt part of what contributed to the loss of the vibrant Eagles, that wasted many chances in front of the wild beast's goal area.

No matter how bad a Team performed, the Manager mustn't attribute or lay claims against or to favour any Player on duty or absent during the match in question. Managers are appointed to source for and Coach Players they accept into the Team they manage or tutor. On Gernot Rohr's case, picking out Ndidi and Iwobi would certainly make other Players feel inferior, especially those he played 'in positions' to replace these 2 Players against the Wild Beast of Central African Republic. Coaches are there to manage the resources they have for a particular Match, in order to bring out the best in the Team for honour and Glory of whatever they stands for. If Rohr had won this game for Nigeria, he wouldn't have remembered to mention Iwobi and Ndidi, but his lack of focus and professional touch brought out this unprofessional statements.

The Eagles lost at the dead minute of the game, via a defensive blunder that was made possible by fatigue and Coach's inability to charge the Eagles during the dying period of the game. Part of Rohr's responsibility was to put in place defenders that could pin down a moving counter attack when his Team was on an attacking spree against the opponent but he has shown in his words that, those he put in Iwobi and Ndidi's positions were there because he never had any CHOICE, which is against his duty of sourcing for the right legs in different departments of the Team.

No Barcelona's coach has been caught directly, saying that they lost because Messi was not on the field and there was never a time any Real Madrid or Juventus' manager openly apportioned blames on the circumstance that stopped Ronaldo from featuring in the team's loss, they rather do proper analysis or avoid the press. The German Coach Could have done better than placing the 2 Players above others openly. Nigeria lost 0-1 to Central African Republic but still top the Group Table by 6 points after 3 matches.

Is Gernot Rohr saying that there are no better legs that could replace Iwobi and Ndidi in the Super Eagles team, both in Europe or in the Nigeria professional League? Maybe he's ageing and the time to leave Football is close or do you think he was right with his excuses? Follow for more Football stories.

Weren't Iwobi and Ndidi there when we drew 4-4 in Lagos? The guy always clutches to excuses.
We say somebody is a mediocre and has no ambition.

What I realize is this is his philosophy : "if you can't win, don't lose. And if you do lose, not more than 1 odd goal. That way I can keep my excuses alive"

Going forward

Rohr should work on the midfield. You cannot force good performance. It takes time and a lot lies in the midfield.

Even if he wants to play a direct pattern, he needs to set it up in a way the wide forwards and full backs can support the midfield during build up.

We we're so bare yesterday. On numerous occasions we lost the ball unnecessarily in the middle.

Let us hope the team plays better next time.

Did anyone notice the poor combinations by the FBs and WF? That's if there was any.

How is it that most crosses were by Simon. Could it have been Rohr's instruction?

4231 or 352. Rohr should get out of the accommodation business

Big advice to Onyeka is that he should work more with the defenders. He should understand the defenders are his primary duty.

Although I can't blame him too much because it seems he played to instructions. However, going forward, I hope he can add a different dimension to the team.

Onyeka should keep in mind when the defenders are with the ball, his primary function at that time is to create passing options for them.

When the ball gets to him, his primary function is not to lose the ball.

How does he not lose the ball? Watch, watch, watch.

If you are close to an opposing player, don't hold the ball. Pass back to either the defender or keeper. As soon as he does that, the role changes to creating passing line.

When not marked, find the most free player in space and deliver the ball.

Advice for Aribo.

He is the eyes of the midfield and his primary duty is to dictate play, not break down opposition midfield

There was a big miscommunication between Aribo and Onyeka bad I hope in the coming games, he sorts it out. Yes he is good running at the opposition defence and creating passing lines for the defenders and defensive midfielder.

What is the need for all the talent if we are not exploiting opposition gaps. There were times we could have switched play to run down a free flank but we opted to go at tighter sections.

Aribo should work with Onyeka to create room for fluid buildup, watch out for free sections and quickly transition play towards the gaps.

He needs to make it a big part of his game going forward. Especially when they are just two Manning the midfield.

Our full backs should know they are a big part of the build up. They don't need to push up the pitch too much during build up plays.

Outnumbering the opposition in different zones of the field is important to keep control and dominance.

We totally neglected that aspect, that is why I still feel instructions affected the team.

The full backs should move a bit closer to the midfield and push forward only after the ball has transitioned from midfield to attacking areas.

This kind of play would have kept the CAR players back and the defensive setup safe.

You're right. That's the point I was trying to make earlier that we sort of become agitated when facing an African team that came to defend. Instead of calming down to spot the gaps, we become too eager to score and make very wrong decisions when attacking. In spite of their defending, so many more chances would have been created had we made some better passing decisions.

Amoo and Nwakali should start games the same way Gavi started a semi-final game that's how you prepare players for the future and expose them to more scouts and people who watch international football, before that semi-final game I didn't know of any player called Gavi since I don't watch FCB matches...

but because they're Nigerian born and bred you want to treat them like they are Amateur footballers who only started playing professional football last week...

I hope Nigeria doesn't get banned in future because this match and the one against siera-leone are suspicious.... its like England losing to Andorra or San marino..

Very accurate and I hope the coaching crew sort this out soon.

Playing an offensive setup doesn't mean neglecting the midfield control, especially when you are up against a compact side that are pressing efficiently with some forward players.

We got it tactically wrong and need to sort that out fast.

Mascherano on Nigeria's playing style in 2018.

"Nigeria are quite well known to us, we’ve always met in the last World Cups.

"They’re tough, not just because of their physical power, but because their disorganisation has the effect of disorganizing you as a rival.

"And that’s when teams like ours suffer the most – in disorder."

Admittedly, I didn't watch the match from scratch, due to other obligations. Began at the 60th minute.

But what I saw was abhorrent: Nigeria, against a team of part-time farmers, part-time construction workers, were spamming long balls forward.

Whatever happened to short passes.

Secondly the movement was absolutely horrendous. There were some times when the ball was swung into the box and all the players were camped in one zone attacking one another, rather than attacking the spaces.

Like the nation itself, complete disorder.

Yeah. Funny enough, the CAR coach also knew that slowing us down will make us confused and frustrated. Look at what he said

“We stood by them and know that if we cut them off and don’t allow them to be quick then we’ve got a chance. It’s a very great result for us.

The one CAR scored came from defense splitting pass.
What happened to trying to pull your opponent from the defense? Let your opponents grow in confidence then hit them. A good tactician should be able to change strategy as the game progresses. If they are sitting deep, just kick the ball around and give them a sense of security, that you cannot bite.
