God bless you bro. Tony Harris and keshi made a lot of money from players just to ship them abroad and get caps in the national team

Imagine then Gabriel Reuben was a perennial bench warmer at Scottish club kilmannock but constantly got invited to the national team?

Prior to the 2014 World Cup Reuben was almost 6 months out injured and didn’t feature for his Scottish side let alone make the bench to their games but made our World Cup squad. Even then kilmannock head coach once stated that he wonder how Reuben who finds it difficult to break in to his team gets called up regularly by an African footballing power house like Nigeria

How did Uchebo and amoebi make the World Cup team at the expense of an inform ikechukwu Uche and obafemi martins then?

How did uzoenyi make our World Cup team at the expense of red hot standard liege imoh ezekiel who with bashuayi were the hottest young strikers in the Belgian league then and finished with double figures in the same league uchebo finished with 4 abi 6 goals that season with relegation battlers then cercle Brugge?

Even an inform Abdul ajagun then with panathiniakos never got a chance

if not the intervention of the top ogas in the nff keshi didn’t list Osaze in his team to the world cup

Sone Aluko too.

Siasia remains a tactically astute coach no doubt but his possessive style is more focused on attacking transitions and pays not as much mind to defending. That is my problem with Siasia's style. His teams easily concede most times. It's almost as if he is focused on just outscoring you.

But in Amunike's tactical approach, I see a good balance between Attacking and defensive approaches. Amunike teams know how to attack and defend as a group. His teams also make use of a deeplying playmaker who directs the team's tempo in the middle game.
It was his deployment of a regista in combo with a hardworking Midfield grafter that played box to box that got the FIFA technical group really interested in his use of such tactics at that Innocent level of the game.
They wanted to understand how he was able to get teenagers to play that way and to top instructions. Amunike teams when given time are tactically drilled machines. No caps.

TheGoodJoe:

It depends on how we want to look at it. Siasia plays a more refined old-school possessive pattern that is easy on the eyes, easier to understand but very effective.

Amunike plays a far more complex pattern. Very difficult to understand and will need time for adjustment. That was why when he started with Osimhen's U17, he almost got sacked. With time, the boys understood the tactics and it took multiple daily sessions of drills for them to get it.

My take, the more complex the better.

It makes the players easily play the simpler versions.

I will take Amunike ahead of Siasia but that does not undermine the tactical ingenuity of Siasia.

They are banking on this and the Arab cup happening in December to boost their rankings to leapfrog Nigeria. Learnt the 3rd round draws will be on 18th December.
Fingers crossed let's see how it goes, if we qualify for the next round we just have to play whomever we are paired it. Its winner takes it all

The 19 y/o Midfield Pearl had a good game.

His third league game but first start for FC Liefering (Feeder team of RB Salzburg) in the Austrian Bundesliga 2.

Played all 90mins as his side recorded a 2-0 win over FC Juniors OÖ.

He played at the base of midfield.

Loving this flashback on a Friday. wink

Amunike's tactical ingenuity is undeniable. It was also seen in the U17 team of 2013. That team had Amunike written all over it tactically. 2015 was hard-core tactical and they grew overtime from a team struggling to implement his tactics at Niger 2015 into a team that finally digested his tactics and ruled the world at Chile 2015.

Like TheGoodJoe, I agree we have a tactical mastermind in Emmanuel Amunike. He has the high class training, the highly tactically disciplined mindset and the pedigree of being a famous ex-footballer and Former APOTY winner to command the respect of the dressing room.

Several may want to discredit his roles elsewhere but remember he helped Tanzania qualify for the 2019 Afcon for the first time in 39 years (since 1980) and also did good enough with those bang below average players. You could see his tactical imprints on that team but their limitations was not being as talented enough to truly carry out his tactical game effectively enough.

Even with his inferior cast of talents, he didn't play cowardly football, he played brave. His tactical patterns shows a coach who would achieve really good with a really talented group of players.

His tactical intelligence is one of the reasons Amunike makes my Personal Top 10 list of Favorite/best coaching tacticians in world football today. And he is one of only two African coaches on that list. The other is Belmadi of Algeria. wink

TheGoodJoe:

Golden Eaglets’ tactics confounds FIFA Study Group

Emmanuel Amuneke came to the on-going FIFA U-17 World Cup as one of the rookies in the coaching business, but the former Barcelona star has been able to confound even the ‘experts’ in the game with his unorthodox tactics that has made everybody to sit up and take notes.

After Sunday’s 3-0n defeat of Brazil, the FIFA Technical Study Group (TSG) saddled with the responsibility of ‘monitoring international matches and identifying latest footballing trends’ applauded the tactical savvy of Coach Amuneke for the ease with which they dispatched the Samba Boys.

Desmond (Desi) Curry, a member of the TSG, had sought out Amuneke ahead of their trumping of the A Selecao of Brazil at the Estadio Sausalito to explain briefly his seemingly obstructive tactics which have confounded opposing teams at this tournament.

The team, according to TSG’s elderly man from Northern Ireland, has brought to bear a new trend with varied styles and deployment of players when ‘having or not having the ball,’ hence the need for clarification.
“Sincerely, we (TSG panel) have tried to understand the tactics you are using but it is confusing,” Curry told Amuneke
matter-of-factly.

“I have done some of your matches here but it is unusual to see a Number 10 (Kelechi Nwakali) playing deep as much as we have seen your player here.

“This is a new trend and we are going to include some of your explanations in the Technical Report of the championship because the tactical approach of your team stands out,” he noted.

https://guardian.ng/sport/golden-eaglets-tactics-confounds-fifa-study-group/

That is, FIFA Technical experts had to consult Amunike to help them understand his tactics. It was extraordinary and confusing.

As I said, he is up there tactically with Guardiola and Enrique and you are talking of Rohr.

We still have Manu Garba for that. We should be looking at Emmanuel Amunike as our next Super Eagles coach. I rate his tactical acumen so highly. That guy has what it takes to handle this new Nigerian Generation of footballers several of which are players he discovered and turn them into a Golden force.

Amunike is the guy I want to see taking on Algeria's Djamel Belmadi with this Nigerian team. The tactical battle would be exciting on all levels. cool

Tijani is a Ball playing CDM by the way. A hard worker as well but not the answer to our Midfield dictator role just yet. Let him keep growing.
He and Raphael Onyedika Nwadike are similar in some aspects.

TheGoodJoe:

I don't understand the question. More disciplined in what context. If it is in tactical setup, Amunike's set up requires a lot of stamina and tactical discipline to execute.

I will give an instance with the fluidity he gave Kelechi Nwakali in the U17. He played a deep role during build-up plays and used his passing and decision-making ability to find offensive players in space.

Then he has to transition into an attacking player when the ball gets to the attacking third, to make sharp incisive passes to get to attacking players between the defensive lines of the opposition.

This definitely requires disciplined tactical understanding and high stamina to execute.

The interchanging positions of players were a big part of Amunike's strategy. That was what was confusing to the Technical Study Group of FIFA. They did not understand the movements of the players and the reasons for them.

Rhor's plays are less demanding tactically and in movement.

You finish work my good man... Brilliant submission. cool

Siasia is corrupt! He might be good tactically but like Keshi his call-ups were suspicious!
Also, he made us lose the 2008 Olympic final by starting his boy Isaac Promise ahead of Anichebe against Argentina. The former went on to miss an open goal!
However, I might agree that we give Amunike a chance but my fear is that he might not have the balls to drop his boys if they underperform as Rohr did to Kelechi. I don't see any special stuff Rohr is doing to warrant $30k per month!
TheGoodJoe:

My point is that was CHAN, and this was a world cup. Also, how do you think the U17 survived? Amunike must have used his money. Just as Siasia did.

However, I am talking of no kits in a world cup proper, leaving the players in cold. They left the country with slippers.

Mbok it is not the same.

Why not hold the highest position to utilize all the talents available, both home and abroad?
Managing adults who are already made and discovering new talents are different things. Based on your points, Amunike's greatest strengths seem to be discovering talents and excellent tactics, let's play to his strengths.

The draw for the 3rd and final round (the playoffs) of the African WC qualifiers will be held on Dec 18th. The FIFA rankings of Dec 16th will be used for the draw. The games during upcoming Arab Cup will count as friendlies and will be calculated as such for the rankings.

The Arab cup will unfairly work for/against North African teams' rankings, depending on how they perform in the tournament. We have a very interesting tournament ahead...

Also note:

Since the Arab Cup is outside of the international window, it's weighting for the ranking is essentially "5" - the lowest of all FIFA eligible games.

North Africans will not have their A teams and can only field domestic players - this may actually work more to their detriment instead.

Kevin Akpoguma bags an assist, plays all 90 in Big Hoffenheim Win in the Bundesliga.

TSG Hoffenheim 5-0 FC Koln

Kevin Akpoguma had a good game playing two roles. Assisted Togolese International, Ihlas Bebou for the 2nd goal of the game (Bebou's brace).

Started the game as a LCB in a 3 man defence but injury to Pavel Kadeřábek (Starting RWB) in the 36th min caused Akpoguma to switch to RWB while Chris Richards took up Kevin's place at LCB.

In a nutshell, He started the game as a LCB (played there for 36mins) but finished it as a RWB (played there for 54mins+).

Meanwhile, Kingsley Ehizibue played 75mins for Koln.

Oh you forgot that late Isaac Promise was even the captain and the same guy led the team to the final...did you really gave Siasia 2008 Olympic team a chance.

Bonfrere Jo won Olympic gold with real Super eagles players but Siasia won silver with entirely young ones but here you are criticizing him for not starting very average Anichebe.

The same Siasia went to Rio with no support from NFF and still won bronze.
